First of all, this is a brilliant depiction of Lagos and indeed, contemporary Naija arts. I am somewhat bemused by those who think DW should not show the slums in Lagos, such as Makoko. That would be akin to describing London without mentioning Peckham or Harkney, of New York City with no mention of Bronx or Brooklyn. Makoko is an integral part of Lagos life, and so are the struggles and spirits of the people who live there, as well and their achievements and resilience. Besides, you don't solve a problem by sweeping it under the carpet, so highlighting Makoko as well as Lekki and Victoria Island affords the viewer a rich and holistic view of Lagos. It ensures that the creativities of folks in Makoko are not left out of the Lagos story. More so, it gives us all a reason to want to change places like Makoko in Lagos, and indeed, across Nigeria.
The artist profiles were fantastic, but DW profiles are always weird and voyeuristic. shaky cameras etc. Also, Makoko is not required for every Nigeria profile, nor colonial history - imagine profiling the UK and each time highlighting their role as enslavers from mid 19th century... or Germans as N@zis...
@@fistandpen2505 every western video on Nigeria without showing Makoko is not complete, they are obsessed with that place That's why its important for Africans to tell our own stories cos the western narrative is often one sided- mostly negative
@@blackoralArt I'm tired of it... 70 percent of the people who live in Lagos have never been in Makoko before... Alimosho is the most populous LGA in Lagos, nobody ever profiles that part of Lagos... It's strange
If una neva show slums in Africa, una neva shown anitin. Nonsense. Homeless pipo full America's Street but una no go do documentary there except Africa. Nonsense.
Enough of showing us slum anytime you want to portray Nigeria, we're tired of that already. Most of your documentary on Lagos specifically focused on slum, yet it's not even up to one percent of Lagos state. Thank you, DW

Narration has been par excellence, allowing us to understand it from a far-off country. Africa has been our ancestors' home millions of years ago.✨️
