Sunder also has economical benefits in reducing the number of swings to kill an enemy. Since they changed the durability system, cost-per-swing and cost-per-kill metrics became more important.
I feel like short swords always left a good first impression, as far as I could tell. - That there are no legendary tier ones available in the Exiled lands probably inspired most people to forget about them. The changes to the games combat system implies the devs have an opportunity to develop their characteristics further.
I was shown that the daggers of Dagon took a hit 😢 so after seeing this I just may reluctantly and finally hang them daggers up and start trying the short sword. Thanks Kiah. Always love ya work.
The thing with greataxe that makes it amazing is you can chain 8 hits together. You can execute 4 light attacks followed by 4 heavy attacks in a single fluid combo that keeps the opponent stagger-locked. Sadly it is completely broken by the new stamina system because even with 20 grit, full stam kit, and buffs I think you run out of stamina before you can reach the end of the combo.
It is one of the biggest stamina drainers out of all the weapons now, so you'd be correct. You may still be able to pull it off but you'd deffo need to build into grit
Nice.. I'm playing a corrupted strength and vitality build with full grit right now.. with this update I don't know how a build with only 100 Stam will even work whatsoever... :(
I'll be using 1-handed axe in in perpetuity (unless it really gets nerfed). Jumping into a group of mobs, applying bleeds and a knockdown (for humanoids) is awesome. Also leaves 1 hand free for a torch or shield.
War axes suck against opponents wiht a lot of armor because they have no armor pen at all. Maces have high armor pen value plus they apply sunder, so they bypass a ton of armor.
The short sword combo where you start with a lunge (heavy attack) and then four quick stabs (light attacks) does so much damage very quickly, especially with agility buffs.
Don't forget that the maces usually have a lot of armor penetration and the axes not so much. Also you are testing weapon damage on a target with really heavy armor so even without before the update the mace should do significantly more damage than the axe especially with the sunder effect.
And there is also the fact that those weapons don't use the same build some are agility build some are strength build, i don't know what build she uses for the test or did she left agility and strength to 0.
Very true! To answer kukipett, I used armour that didn't attribute to either. You'd want too in a real fight, but I didn't want the variables to be too mixed
Short and to the point, Sir Sabs Alot. Playing as a female, it only made sense to use the short sword and I liked it enough to use it again on my Siptah play through.
I bought this as a self birthday present, Isle of whatever version, got really excited, even bought that leaf outfit on the bazaar...then my PC died 2 days later, lol. I think it's just the power supply, hopefully. That's how this went down for me last week lol.
I still can't help but hate the new stamina cost system. It just feels so clunky to not be able to at least do a full combo with some weapons right off the bat. I wish I enjoyed it but I just don't find that combat feels fun to me anymore. As is unless something drastically changes I'm probably going to skip the Age of War or at least until they make some changes.
It is quite clunky, but I can tell you since they patched it a bit more I don't mind it as much now, since the recharge is really fast. It just requires a bit of switch up in tactics
@KiahOnFire Well, that's good. I'll have to go check it out. I just don't think trying to pidgeon hole people into putting points into grit just so they can experience doing a full combo feels good. Can you still not do a full combo with a 2H hammer without putting points into grit or wearing Stam armor? 2H hammers were one of the worst weapons in the game before and the Stam cost changes felt like it just made them even worse.
The weapons are a little weaker now, i noticed this as i had weapons from before AOW and i crafted a new one with the same tier 4 blacksmith i think the short sword lost 10 % damage. The short sword is great especially if you master the combo of one heavy followed by five quick lights but of course you need to aim correctly as you can easily miss if you are not well trained. Since i have discovered the full potential of a short sword i would not anything else. And another great thing, it's perfect to use with a bow as they are both agility weapons.
I'm 1h axe user myself, supplementing it with a shield for humans and throw-axe as double axe for undead (which wasn't in this video but I assume it still does only cripple), while thrall bonks them with 1h mace.
Spin to win isn't as solid anymore, with full grit I could achieve a few rotations but it's nothing like it used to be. I'll have to try havoc and whirlwind blades, it might be the better option if you still want to spin
@@KiahOnFireOfficial ok thanks for the info...I live for combat in this game...and not being able to get my full combo is not a nice feeling. Also i like dodging too much so Grit/Stamina is my main build focus.

Next is testing out the new revamped weapons on Legendary weapons…… there’s quite ALOT of new status effects and there are 2, count *2* weapons that are overly powered. Ain’t giving spoilers for them yet but I’ll update below my comment.
Does having throwing axe in off hand or a shield affect damage at all or is it just main weapon? I've seen damage listed on shields which is weird and animations make it appear as if you use the throwing axe and are dual wielding, plus I've seen animations where you do smash people with the shield.
Short sword is already amazing currently. Although, you'd just use the normal attacks. With the change though, does the dps of the short sword drop or is it still 56?
It looks like it is actually going up, at least on some weapons. The damage on the Alligator's Bite in the video is 74 and on live it is 61. Add in the DoT from the bleed and it looks like a substantial increase.
Great vid to cover this, Kiah. But is it too far beyond the boundaries of possibility that these changes are going to drive off more players, rather than having old players come back or new ones interested in the game? What metric are the devs using to evaluate whether combat is challenging or fun?
never tried a corrupted build yet cuz i can't stand the lowered stamina, now with this change, i believe corrupted builds are useless unless there is a corruption change that makes it only affect life. as if i will play a build that can't even complete a full weapon combo. I really don't understand that change. also REALLY dislike that we won't be able to repair legendary/unique weapons anymore, i absolutely HATE finding a good weapon with a pathern i like and leaving it on the shelf for that one fight unless i wanna break and loose it quickly. if only they had put a new system in the game to repair those weapons. oh well, admin spawned weapons here i go.
Yeah short swords are WAY out of whack right now in AoW. They consistently did more damage than almost all other weapons in their level range but their lack of status effects offset that. Now that they still do more damage than other weapons and have big DoTs they need to be dialed back.. FC really needs to learn to design around options and not feed a single meta.... again. Star Metal Mace - 41, Axe - 43, Short Sword - 51 with bleed on every hit.
if you are fully corupted and hav all the corupt perks what is your stamina then? you cant get any stamina bosting perk if you go sorcery fully... i feel that that playstyle is dead now :(
What are the current stats on the legendary short sword, Render? I looted one of those today, and in comparison, it has the same armor pen and three more points in damage than Alligator Bite.
I hope someone does a video on sorcery and how it effected on testlive. I use the sorcerer armor and weapons with a full corrupted strength , 19 of 20 corrupted vit and full stam.
