This gimbal lifting issue also appears when using waypoint flights. I’ve been using 2 waypoint flights for over 6 months without a problem, until I changed one of them recently when this issue showend up. Both waypoint flights have 12 waypoints, each aiming the camera to POIs at ground level. When I changed one of the waypoints, the flight was all good as before until this particular waypoint was reached, then the gimbal went up. The next waypoint it returned to normal facing the next POI. Since then, every waypoint flight I created new fails. So this error affects saved waypoint flights created after a certain firmware version where the issue was introduced, and gets saved into the waypoint flight files. I was able to restore a backup copy of an older waypoint flight file onto a fresh installation successfully and it doesn't have the gimbal issue. All new created waypoint flights do have the issue. I'm on the latest FW .0800 so it's not fixed yet.
Update: I opened a case for the issue above with DJI Support, copied the waypoint files off the controller and shared them with DJI Support to investigate. Within 4 days since opening the case, they had the issue located and came back to me stating the issue will be addressed in an upcoming version of DJI Fly App which will be released around Christmas. Excellent support by DJI. Hopefully the upcoming release also solves other gimbal tilt issues as well.
I believe the screen will display different green boxes and icons depending on what has been selected to track. If you notice when you tested at home, the green tracking box is dotted with a GPS map icon in the center but in the field the box is solid and without the map marker icon. I suspect it may be related to losing human tracking as others have suggested. A fixed point may behave differently than a movable object which requires tracking. The box on your car remained quite large.

Ok I tested my Mini 4 Pro. Latest update at about 80 feet and 120 feet. Did both twice. Did not get the gimbal pointing up at the end. But my super accurate Mini 4 Pro was off on the landing about a foot all time’s 😢 Only did one location. Will try again in another location down the road. 🐾🐈⬛🐝🍻
Great test Nobby, some were saying it was happening on the old update and the new update solved the problem. Unfortunately not for me and using the DJI RCN2, it didn't happen till nearer the ground. Seems to be to do with the Focus track with larger objects (cars). I'm sure DJI will sort the problem. Many thanks for sharing the tests
Hi Nobby, I was discussing this issue on the DJI forum with a fellow, Red Dot and he replied to me with this: I figured it out. You must not select a person as your subject in tracking during rocket shot. Just select or boxed the ground and make it as your subject. The gimbal will never go up or tilt up once it is descending. I guess this is something to do with the subject tracking. Subject tracking for humans or human sized subjects can be tracked below 15m-ish. so above that, it will lost its subject. since it cannot look for a subject, gimbal acts up upon descent. I haven't tried it out yet, but perhaps an answer.
The large car, as a subject makes it easy for the drone to focus and it seems to maintains it's tracking. Could it be that tracking a person from almost above, the drone is struggling to focus and track your small profile. Interesting if you tested the drone at a longer horizontal distance to see if your larger profile is easier to focus and track. Just a thought.
Thank you Nobby for this great test. You must be a real technician to perform these tests so clearly and logically. I'm going to test it very soon, but I think I already know the result.

That was odd, the way if was fine at home, but acted up when you took it to the field. I haven't seen this issue, but than again I rarely use the Rocket quickshot, unless I'm reviewing a new drone. I hope you get it sorted out. Great video, and thanks for sharing.
Prior to this update did you try this exact operation with correct results ? I also think that when you are at home there is alot more structure and items around you to help the drone diferenciate between you and the surrounding area and when you are on location there is nothing around you and you become hard to see then the drone loses lock. This seems to me not to be an issue, rather just the fact that you become a very small target and hard to see but the car is larger and very much easier to see therefore the drone doesnt lose lock.
Thank you for the video Nobby. That problem is a head scratcher. Yesterday I was flying the Mini 4 Pro with no problems but I like you don’t normally use Rocket. I wish I had already seen this video before my flight as I would have tested Rocket mode. Perhaps I can remember to do so next flight. Cheers.

The tests that came up fine were because you started off above you. It only seems to have the gimble issue when you start the drone off at head height or lower. I have been discussing this issue with kevin on the were the roberts channel.
I have a problem with Air3 in Dronie mode. At the very end of the return, the drone and gimbal turn around. The problem occurs if a person is selected. Information was provided on the official forum. The problem has not been solved.
Could it be the color of the background where you were standing? When you were in your yard you had a lot of contrasting colors around you! Just wondering if the camera senses something different with the color of the pavement!

If you laid down while doing this test it would have worked fine as well. The drone is losing the recognition of the person where it can still recognize the car.
Be mindful of the height you start the drone off at relative to the subject. When it worked for you, you started off at a much higher angle, try it at home from a lower starting angle and I think it will happen again. I reckon it only happens when starting off at a closer to level height with the subject as more movement of the humble is required on the way causing it to miscalculate the angle change on the way down maybe? Given we haven’t worked out the exact scenario where it occurs, is it possible it was an issue before the update and no one noticed?

You really got something there. It will likely be fixed in an update, "minor issues" fixed.... Not long ago the Mini 3 pro asked for compas calibration, and it was done. Tried an IMU calibration as well. It runs up to 95, 96% and then nothing happens... Turned the controller off and on and did some flying. What's wrong with the IMU exercise?
This is saying to me that the firmware is not capable of maintaining a lock on the chosen subject at altitude due to the loss of definition of the subject. That said, why isn't the GPS lock taking control of the subject position???

Was the drone shut off at home in between calibrating the gimbal then doing the rocket? I wonder if it would have worked at the remote site if you had calibrated the gimbal, then then the rocket without shutting down the drone

In your video, you can see that human tracking does not activate in front of the house, it switches to tracking a point on the ground. Therefore, there is no problem. In the video recorded in the meadow, human tracking is active all the time, and it is known that human tracking only works to a limited extent. Here is a problem that is not really a problem. It results from hardware limitations and not an update error. The user manual states the range in which tracking works.
On the Mini 3 Pro, I'm getting the same gimbal error. It says "exceeded gimbal limit." Please check your Mini 3 Pro and let us know if you are having the same problem, sir.
Looks like it's losing subject.....try bright clothing...my 2s dont pick me up in a feild if im wearing my cammo jacket.....the car is more defind in colour.... The further away the drone gets from you it can't see you.just a thought..
Maybe in the field location it is losing you because the ultimate top view of you is quite different compared to your (starting) front view. Please, test with the rocket start right above you. The car, however, remains recognised as a car.

The update cleared an issue for me, and now when I transfer videos and pictures from the drone to android phones. My wifi keeps disconnecting, and the wifi icon on my phone disappears 😢
It,s losing you as the target you are small and in dark clothes and on that dirt path to the drone you are both about 18% gray. It works with the car because it white so a big contrast difference between the surrounding area, also the car is a larger target.
Something still screwy on this update…. When the Mini 4 Pro is 40 feet up it says in the warning that it’s 7 feet off the ground???😂 just thought I would report this is what I found this morning. 😂🐝🐈⬛🐾🍻

Agree with the above the test at your house there’s a lot of detail for the drone to pick up on in the field your a tiny spec in empty surroundings

What about the mast that was near you at the road site ? Maybe it’s interfering with the lock on you as a smaller object than the size of your car !

Notice that when the gimbal goes up, is when it loses "lock" on you, at 85' or so. When locked on your big car, it doesn't lose lock at 85'.

Looks like it's losing subject.....try bright clothing...my 2s dont pick me up in a feild if im wearing my cammo jacket.....the car is more defind in colour.... The further away the drone gets from you it can't see you.just a thought..

Yes I had the same last time I was out and I haven't done the latest update, it was a perfectly dry sunny day so no water drops involved.

Maybe in the field location it is losing you because the ultimate top view of you is quite different compared to your (starting) front view. Please, test with the rocket start right above you. The car, however, remains recognised as a car.
Giant Cell tower right behind you is the issue!

The hight is too far for a person. It does say the ft it works at. A bit like follow there is a max distance and after that it will loose you.

The update cleared an issue for me, and now when I transfer videos and pictures from the drone to android phones. My wifi keeps disconnecting, and the wifi icon on my phone disappears 😢

It,s losing you as the target you are small and in dark clothes and on that dirt path to the drone you are both about 18% gray. It works with the car because it white so a big contrast difference between the surrounding area, also the car is a larger target.
