The documentary was made by TSN as part of a Dave Hodge series of videos looking at Hockey in Canada.

Winnipeg, Quebec, and Hartford (and even Minneapolis..their first team, the North Stars) should've never have lost their teams....all you have to do is look at the old video.......you see a full building, with passionate fans...not just for their teams, but for the sport. You don't have that in these "might be" markets - Phoenix, Raleigh, Atlanta, Columbus, Denver, Nashville...

From Minnesota: It is a travesty that a great town like Winnipeg no longer has an NHL franchise, the franchises in the American Sunbelt Cities are a joke, the "fans" there do not understand the game AT ALL, they do not understand superb play even if it doesn't result in a goal, they want to see 'fights' and no nothing of The Code, it's shameful our beautiful sport is so misunderstood and in the hands off worthless owners.

the 72 series would not have been "close" if bobby orr was healthy and bobby hull was in the nhl, with those 2 in the lineup we would've won 5-2-1 probly, instead of 4-3-1

It really was a combination of many factors however; had Bettman worked as hard to Keep the Jets in Winnipeg as he has by keeping the Pens in Pittsburgh, the Preds in Nashville, The Coyotes in the Desert, the Hurricanes in Carolina, The Panthers in Miami, The Lightning in Tampa,etc.......the Winnipeg Jets would STILL be in Winnipeg.
So, although 100% of blame doesn't go to Bettman, while we were trying to save our team, he was finding suitors to buy it!

Here's the problem with the documentary that I can analyze and it's this: how many major cities does Canada have compared to the US? The thing that I notice is that Canada can only support as many hockey teams so long as the city and it's population is there to support it. I'm not trying to take sides here and I hated Bettman for moving Winnipeg and QC down south but even if QC and Winnipeg still had hockey markets, the US still outnumbers Canada by a wide margin in terms of urbanization.

Ducks fan... an expansion franchise that actually made SENSE (metro area, and La/Anaheim always has two teams so they can be rivals) and I WANT THE JETS!
It's just BORING watching my Ducks play the Phoenix Phonies in half-empty arenas and all... same with the Florida Panthers, and Nashville Predators...
Take the Coyotes and make them the Jets again, the team's bankrupt and unloved anyway- give them a loving home.
Take the Panthers and bring the Whalers back.
And use NSH for Quebec's team

The Jets are coming back but you can't blame Bettman for allowing the team to move. The arena was too old, the market was too small and there was no one willing to purchase the team who would keep the team in Winnipeg.
What was he supposed to do? I agree that Phoenix was a dumb shit idea but now that Winnipeg has the brand new MTS Center and TNSE who wants to purchase and run the team with a billionaire backing it, the stage is set.
GB has voiced his support for 'Peg and it will happen.

I'm an Anaheim Ducks fan, came to liking hockey around 1996 or so...
And even I KNOW the Winnipeg Jets deserve existence FAR MORE than the Phoenix Phonies...
And Florida's not a hockey area- they need TWO??? Tampa Bay won a Cup, so keep them, but the Panthers are a joke, always bad and never supported...
Take the Phoenix Phonies and make them the Jets again, and take the Panthers and make them either the Hartford Whalers or another Canada team... say, Quebec?
    GO DUCKS! :)

@FAITHandLOGIC The Boston Red Sox have a stadium with just as small a capacity if not smaller than the Winnipeg stadium, and both that park and Chicago's Wrigley Field are as old as they come. But no one dares suggest that Feway Park, opening a month after the Titanic sank and is nearly a century old, isn't big enough or needs to go, and the same with the Cubs' Wrigley Field. Green Bay is a small towm, but no one dares take away the treasured Green Bay Packers. Bettman IS at fault here...

I like the Jets, but if they move the Coyotes out of Phoenix..where will I go to watch hockey on the cheap on vacation? lol

"Commisioner Gary Bettman, a man some say is leading the game southward."
In EVERY sense of that last word!
You have these old diehard fans STILL clamoring for their Jets and Nordiques and wanting the Battle of Quebec back and the TRUE White Out to return, in Hartford you miss Brass Bonanza, the Whale...
Tell me--who REALLY thinks of something that memorable when they think "Atlanta Thrashers?" "Phoenix Coyotes?" Nashville Predators?" "Florida Pathers?"
Go Ducks, and Bring 'em Back!

So if the game is just about rating, numbers & big
profit to appease American greed, you'd be right.
However, the game is not about that, it's about Canada's family, Canada's culture, Canada talent, Canada's patriotism, Canada's unity, Canada's togetherness, Canada's engenuity & Canada's acheivments & Canada's existence. The CFL
survives & does well without American big money.
American big money has perveted the virtue & goodness of the game. Hockey belongs to Canada,
the game is ours & the $'s

Ofcourse that is true however; Winnipeg and Quebec are Major Canadian cities and have & can again easily support the NHL. Gary Bettman may see a population of 2 Million Plus in Phoenix or Miami being a better market that Winnipeg at 750,000 however; he's wrong. Phoenix and Miami, etc. might be "hockey Markets" according to his way of thinking but, Winnipeg and Quebec are Hockey Towns! Bettman put teams in great NBA Markets, NOT NHL markets. ( He Should have stayed with NBA )
