Лимонная кислота замечательно справляется с ржавчиной и наносит оксидированную пленку. А если ее подогреть вообще хорошо получится.

He uses a battery because he does not have proper tools. The battery offers no special material, it's not used because it's an electrical appliance, it's just a hard surface and easy to handle. The entire hatchet could have been easily and quickly cleaned of all rust and removed much of the pitting by soaking the tool in muriatic acid, then neutralizing the acid left in the pores of the metal with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in water, then rinsing it with clean water, drying and oiling the metal. The entire process takes about 20 minutes and you have a totally new rust free surface. Sharpening should be done by hand with sequential grit level whetstones/waterstones.
