The most criminally undersubscribed channel in youtube history! You have a more stylish and cinematic style then basically of the "cinematic" youtube channels I have seen. Well done :)
Just bought one, and it's 2018 now! No other compact comes close even today. Tack sharp images and 4K video. Plethora of manual controls. Versatile shooting modes and MANUAL video exposure too, rare on compacts.
Spot on. I haven't bought a new camera in years, there's too much value in good used gear. The lx100 is not always the first camera I grab, but it's the one I enjoy using the most. Great video, I look forward to seeing more.
I absolutely love the LX100, the lens is just amazing and perfect for most situations. Had to go with a GX850 / GX800 because I need touchscreen and tiltable screen but I have to get a 25mm F1.7 for portrait and night shots. Ty for the review !
I've had the Leica version, Type 109, for a couple of years - I was stupid enough to pay extra for the same camera but with a red dot - and it's been brilliant. I've got several other better spec cameras but this one is the perfect travel and street camera. Stills are more than good enough (particularly if shooting in RAW) and the 4K video is far better than you have any right to expect. And you mentioned value, something which is rarely discussed in camera reviews, and the LX100 is now incredibly good value for money. In fact, it's a bargain. Nice review.
Indeed, I will often still gravitate towards it over my dslr. The complete package is so simple and performs so well. I'm hoping to do some printing of the images to see how those look. You're absolutely right about the compactness, in fact, I originally purchased the lx100 for a long trip. Still haven't tested that out though. 4k, also is surprisingly excellent, as you mentioned. Thanks for watching! I have to laugh because you say you've had the camera a few years, I watch reviews of cameras and gear I own all the time, lol.
Great video and I love your style. The Lx100 was actually the camera that got me into the micro 4/3 world. I just recently upgraded to a Panasonic Gx85 and gave my wife the lx100 which she absolutely loves. I agree that this camera can take some amazing images and is more than capable in today's standards. Keep up the good work!
Nice! Yeah, in decent light I'm consistently impressed with what micro 4/3 can do. I dismissed these cameras for a long time, but I'm glad I've come around. Thanks so much for watching!
Hello, i am currently debating between this two can you please tell me your opinion briefly since you owned both? I am leaning towards lx because not really into lenses and stuff but the IBIS and versatility of GX has its own advantages as well. Did you notice the difference in image quality and was the upgrade worth at the end? Thank you
@@ivanzivojinovic1606 If you don't mind the fixed lens on the Lx100, then go for it! It's a solid camera and you can take it anywhere because it's so compact. If you want more versatility of using many of the amazing M43 lenses, then go for the Gx85. Image quality is pretty much the same on both cameras. I believe the battery life is better on the LX100 though but you can't go wrong with either one you choose.
@@ivanzivojinovic1606 Not that I noticed. We actually sold the Lx100 after a little over a year but during the time we had it, the camera was excellent. If you're concerned about the dust issue, go with the Gx85 or the Gx850 if you don't mind not having the EVF. If you're looking at a small camera, also check out the Olympus Em10 line. Those are also excellent cameras and pocketable.
I have almost gotten this camera several times. I played with one a bit in a local shop prior to their going under and I really liked it. I may get one eventually .
I'm still very happy with it. The only things I would really like from it that it doesn't have would be a flip screen and more dynamic range. Otherwise, it's pretty amazing.
Dude, I have an Olympus Pen E-P1 that takes great photos for an 11-year-old camera. I use a VF-1 and the kit 17mm f2.8 lens for street and candid photography, hard to beat at $180 with 3 batteries. Not to mention it's a sexy bit of kit.
Last hear, I bought a Nikon D5300 - saved $340 Cdn over a D5600, differences were minor for me. Just bought a refurbished LX100 and saved $325 Cdn. Results are surprisingly good, even when cropped. Six years ago got a refurbished powerful Desktop computer for around 1/2 price. Still performs well, Buying the trailing edge of technology, especially when the technologies are starting to mature makes good $$$ sense IMO.
Panasonic should upgrade this version to an LX200. From what I heard, the LX100 is susceptible to dust getting into the sensor due to the design of the lens, collects a lot when opening and closing it. They need to re-design the lens, even though the photo quality is very good.
I had a Lumix lx3 , I bought it then after a little reasearch on internet about the best photo cameras at that moment at that range of price. It was such a great camera, the best ! From some time is broken, I must have dropped it or something. In my country there is no Panasonic center to fix it, this is what I was told from the city I live in. I was looking lately for a camera to buy in the future, when I will have money for this. Canons are the most talked. But now I've just wonder : why not another lx3 ? So I found out about lx100 and got to this video. Thanks !
I recently bought the LX100 and I must agree that your statement was spot on; I heard exactly the same thing I believe on. That aside, as I'm learning to work with it, are there any tips you can share when it comes to video settings that you use? Also, from a LX100 user to another: is there any way you can have an shot with more than 2 minutes of exposure time? I'm asking this because I've read very contradicting opinions, hence my questions. Finally, do you often use the Image App when shooting on a tripod? Thanks and congrats again on the video.
I use it in 4k 24p mode when shooting video. The auto focus hunts around a lot, so manual focus helps when doing video. The exposure time does seem limited. I don't use this camera for night photography much. Finally, I gave up on the phone app to control the camera. It was very buggy and frustrating and I didn't find it to be of much use.
I don't know man I still keep most of my old cameras I've seen newer cameras that's still cannot rival GR my gxr or even Pentax Q when used correctly.. before my original gr broke down from 2005 as noisy as that Focus was I still have black and white pictures on there but no other camera manufacturer can match and I've had people even think it was full frame
Ugh, it makes me really sad. Honestly, I didn't want more resolution. All I wanted in the LX 100 II was a flip screen and mic-in port... maybe better auto-focus. It's highly unlikely I will update.
Experiments In Photography I see, there’s a video compare p20 Pro to first LX100, p20 pro win. Why is this so? Why phone camera has so much tiny sensor yet the output is so much better? Why real camera maker don’t take advantage of the bigger sensor size with the tuning phone software able to get to get even better result? Is this mean compact camera like LX100 II will be surpass easily after few months or 1-2 years?
I wasn't able to find that video, but I'm not sure one camera can 'win' over another. So much of photography is subjective and everyone's needs are different. I've been very happy with the LX100, and still use it almost every day. But some people hate it. That's just the nature of these things. Shoot with whatever camera makes you happy. :)
awesome video! i wish i had that camera when i went on a trip a few weeks ago instead of hauling a full frame dslr and the heavy 24-70 all across town. small suggestion for your video, make the music much lower volume than your voice.
...Yes! Ich besitze die Lumix LX100 seit ca 2 a und ich lerne immer noch. Das Einzige was für mich fehlt, ist ein größerer Zoom- bereich , ev. 200mm. Müsste in der kommenden LX200 eigentlich möglich sein.
Where did you find it on Amazon for $550? I've seen it advertised for less that $600 but it is the "international" version. And then there are used ones in the $400 range .. but generally speaking it goes for about $660-$690 now.
12MP is plenty for web use or even 8x10 prints. The lowlight and 4K capabilities make it my everyday carry camera. I got mine for about 300 USD and prefer it to the Sony cameras...My office camera is a Canon EOS M from 2012 with a 22mm lens. It's AWESOME and 18MP and still better than the iPhone X camera. Old cameras are cool. My Nikon D600 is proof.
A late comment. I have started to enjoy the LX after using it in manual mode. It’s slow to start not fast to focus so for street photography you need to accept those limitations. Beware the EV dial which is easy to turn... and use the lense ring to fine tune your shutter speed in manual mode. It will take great static shots but for fast paced street photos I need more practice. $350 on eBay. What a deal.
This camera is perfect except for the well documented dust on sensor problem (Google it). So it's a lemon. Fab concept let down by too many dust collecting issues. Would have run to buy this camera but for these issues.
People will go online and complain about the issues but never do the same for good stuff . % of ppl reporting this issue is nothing compared to ppl that never had dust issue. All single lens cameras have it for the most part and its not that hard to clean. Dust issue not something that would keep me away from buying this camera.
Jeremy Lerman unless you are not willing to try now already well known DIY procedure with the vacuum. Taking the camera apart isn’t extremely hard either.
So underestimated. A Cartier-Bresson wet-dream. Leica 24-75, F 1.7. Shutter and aperture as easy to adjust dials, not a submenu of a submenu. The sensor is the same size as the GX7, it is calculated differently because of the crop factor. The exposed auto zoom lens is the downside. Eventually, grit makes the zooming stutter. I would prefer a manual zoom. So, I would not buy this used. Perhaps LX200 will be another miracle.
Couldn't agree more. Yeah, I'm happy I bought it new, but I don't tend to use a camera more than a few years so I'm not overly concerned about the dust/sensor issue. Thanks for watching!
And yeah up to par it's all about compelling content... I wish people would understand everybody wants to resell everything now OfferUp let-go Facebook what happened to Salvation Army's what happened to gift your old camera to a high school student could use it
