I‘m from Hamberg and have watched your videos for a few years now and this made me so happyyy! Have actually been in the 4 seasons before 😍😍 and yes Germans are well known for their white wines 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I would like to raise awareness regarding the horrendous cruelty involved in the carriage horse trade globally. They live an unbearable life, many of them in concrete captivity 24/7, and many collapse each year as a result of heat, exhaustion, and neglect, and are euthanised. New York carriage horse ‘Ryder’ was sadly captured on a video that went viral when he collapsed this summer in the streets of NYC and was sadly euthanised shortly after💔the gentle barn sanctuary in New York is currently doing great work to rehabilitate and provide life long care and love for these beautiful animals x
Thanks Georgina I know this is something which happens but not in this case. I have responded to someone already but they deleted their comment which took mine with it. The owner is the lady with the blonde pony tail and these horses are 2 of the 10 she owns, she is one of the most well respected trainers and breeders and these horses are her children, you will see the man hugging the horses at the beginning of the trip to calm them after a protest went past them and didn’t stop for the animals. These horses have been ridden by King Charles and are cared for and loved. The Fairmont group only work with respected and professional suppliers x
Truly criminal- If anyone sees a horse and carriage in a city please think about the terrible life they live…. Pounding the hard pavement for long hours in extreme weather. They live in cement stalls (as one parks a car in a city) and don’t have pastures and fields to roam and play. Pulling a heavy carriage in a noisy, congested city for entertainment is not charming it’s animal cruelty.

@@rexysmum I wrote it before then edited after. The practice of horse and carriage rides in a city is not good no matter how much an owner loves their horse(s)or if a royal has taken a ride. I stand by my comments… it’s not safe for the horses and more awareness is needed.

I do miss the Christmas Markets from when I used to live in Vienna. That feeling of old-school markets, the traditions and romantic approach truly put you into the Christmas mood.

Oh I love the Hamburg Christmas market. One of my fave cities in Germany. I lived in Bremen and used to take the train up there quite often, good stuff 🤩

Germany looks beautiful. So sad about the horse carriage 😢 living in NY and being an equestrian family, it breaks our heart what these gorgeous creatures have to go through 😢
Oh believe me, there is no such business in Hamburg ;-) These horses that you can see in the video are privately kept, very well polished luxury horses that are not doing the same job as you know it from touristy places like Mallorca or NYC! It’s totally different. These are horses like ours, yours and mine, adored, well fed, properly trained (look at their hinds 🤤 ). Don‘t be worried! In Hamburg there is no such thing as you know from other places in the world. These horses probably enjoyed their visit to Hamburg city Center, it is definitely not a usual thing!
I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and loved it, they have the most posh little gym and whatever diffusers they used in the spa and throughout smelled amazing, thanks Lydia for bringing back all the memories of this trip, and I loved some of the extra tips about the restaurant and the wine suggestions 👌👍 and happy Birthdayyyyy to the lovely Birthday Girl 🎊 ❤

I've only ever met one local carriage driver that was good to their horse( giving him frequent breaks, properly shod, keeping a water proof blanket on him) but that's the rare exception. I'll never ride in one.

Firstly can I say AGAIN how I love the intro, I find it very English and Christmassy 🎄 I’ve just come back from Copenhagen, also a beautiful place to visit this time of year, very Hygge and the people are very friendly, plenty of beautiful shops and Christmas markets. (Very expensive though)! Hamburg is defo going on my list too, that painting OMG looked amazing and the hotel 🥰

Would of been nice to see a bit more of the market
This may be different in Germany, but in America (Central Park, NY) those horse and carriage rides are awful! They have been trying to outlaw them for years because of the abuse the horses suffer pulling those carts. While they are beautiful, they have a bad reputation and just be sure they are doing those rides ethically.
I was going to say something similar. It’s like that world wide. Unfortunately the mistreatment of these animals never end
I live in NYC and it’s criminal (let me clear - I think its criminal but unfortunately it legally isn’t)

@@brookeb8054 agreed- if anyone sees a horse in a city please know they work in extremely unhealthy conditions; work long hours often in extreme temperatures and weather conditions, pull heavy loads on hard often uneven streets, live in cement cells (like parked cars in a city) and don’t have any open pastures to roam and run. Please don’t support or promote city horse carriage rides.

Lydia, if you really want beautiful Christmas markets, beautiful Christmas decorations and horse-drawn carriages, I can only recommend you to go to Vienna during Christmas time. I live in Vienna but come from Hamburg and Vienna is 100 times more beautiful, classy and has this beautiful old classic Christmas charm. It's like a fairy tale, you have Christmas markets in front of the two castles and one in front of the old town hall which I think looks like Hogwarts. So if you like Christmas, Vienna is a must. All the best and Merry Christmas.

I love the Fairmont Hotels. Before Covid was a thing, my husband booked us a corner room at the Fairmont in Boston overlooking the harbor. It was one of the most beautiful rooms I have ever stayed in. I kept looking at my husband and saying, "I can't believe you booked such a beautiful room". It was Valentine's weekend. So romantic, but we got a lot of snow once we arrived, scared the other couple we were with, but not us. Jim and I are used to going out in a snowstorm, we use to do it all the time, especially when we were dating. I also have a music CD from the Fairmont Hotel and Resort called "Lounging with the Fairmont-A Century of Style". The music is very interesting. A few months ago, I nearly booked us a trip to Germany to see the Christmas market. But my husband told me to just wait, and then we found out he needed emergency surgery, so glad I waited. He is recovering nicely, maybe next year. BTW, I love your Black Watch plaid dress. I recently purchased a Ralph Lauren Black Watch dress myself and the thin black Ralph Lauren belt, it looks great together. I plan on wearing my heeled black boots with it too. Also, I have a nice padded black headband that I hardly ever wear, but seeing you wear yours a lot, I think I will start to wear mine more often. Thank you Lydia for showing us about.

Your attempt at German in the airport was really good. I would have totally understood you (German is my second native language). Nice to see Hamburg which has been my home for many years.
The Christmas markets are legendary, a must if you're there. And the Vier Jahreszeiten hotel is among the top ones in Hamburg, the view at the Binnenalster is legendary - it looks like a giant lake in the middle of the city but it's actually a river :). I hope you all had a lot of fun in the most chic German city!

Thats my hometown (now I live in Switzerland) but you gotta go back in summer. Its much more pleasant with warmer weather. And you could also take the train to Sylt then.

That bookstore that had the art was Karl Lagerfeld’s favourite bookstore, and when the owner passed Karl actually wrote his obituary. The bookstore has a lot of books Karl illustrated that are not very well known. Also super random, but I used to work in that hotel and it is a building steeped in history

I think the German and Swiss markets are the best in Europe , Salzburg is gorgeous at Christmas time . Enjoy, I would be digging into those berries. I learned backpacking through Germany and Austria years ago I liked their wine and even their beer.

We love Hamburg, it wins over Berlin hands down (our opinion), the centre is compact enough that you can walk everywhere. We've not been for the Christmas markets yet, but maybe next year...
We will be there for the marathon in the spring (my husband will be running it for the 4th time - I'll have a chill morning and wander down to the finish line in time to cheer him on). It's only a four hour drive for us, and we'll probably combine it with the Neumunster outlet centre on the way home.
Oh, and white gluwein is the way to go (my favourite is with all the Christmas spices).
