You can bring food through security on domestic flights in Canada, I'm assuming it's the same in the U.S. too. Not international though! And yea you can't bring liquids such as water on any flight unless they are under a certain size and all in a large Ziploc bag.

I am so happy that you and your family had an amazing time in Hawai'i. You guys sure did make a trip out of it. I love that you guys were able to visit Mauna Kea & Hapuna Beach, those two spots are where I spent majority of my childhood into High School. I'm so sorry about the unfriendly staff at Hawaiian Airlines / Kona Airport. I have relatives who work there, so this makes me sad. None the less, I am so happy that you guys enjoyed yourselves!
