- In honor of the 25th anniversary of the famous holiday film “Home Alone 2,” ABC News’ Michael Koenigs @MikeOnABikeABC ventured to the Plaza Hotel to reenact some of our favorite Kevin McCallister scenes.
Since the film’s premiere, gone are the days of Kevin’s Talkboy and VHS tapes while the location of Duncan’s Toy Chest, based on the F.A.O. Schwarz toy store, is now an Apple store.
The day consisted of pranking the concierge with audio of Kevin mimicking his father’s voice in order to get a room, trying to find the pool, and visiting the Royal Plaza Suite, one of the most expensive hotel rooms in New York City at $40,000 a night.
Hotel staff told ABC News that during the production of the movie, carpeted floors were removed so actor Macaulay Culkin could effectively slide, but the tiling revealed underneath was the original flooring of the hotel.
Then-owner of the hotel, Donald Trump, liked the tiled floors so much that he kept them.
When visiting the luxurious Royal Plaza Suite, Koenigs devoured an ice cream sundae that was served to him in bed, just like Kevin did.
The visit ended by tipping the doorman in gum and heading off in a white limo with a cheese pizza in tow.
The Plaza Hotel is offering a “Live like Kevin” experience package this holiday season, starting at $895 a night for the over-the-top sundae room service, a visit to their interactive photo experience, and “Home Alone 2” themed swag.
For additional purchase, guests could tour New York City in a limo with a map of everywhere Kevin visited, access to Wollman Ice Rink, express passes to the top of the Empire State Building, and more.
It's been 25 years since the release of "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York." To celebrate, the Plaza Hotel, which plays a prominent role in the film, is offering a package that allows guests to live it up like Kevin McAllister.
Rates start at $895, only slightly less than the $967 Kevin spent on room service during his stay.
"In-room and throughout the hotel a variety of experiences inspired by Kevin's time over the holiday's here at The Plaza will come to life for guests to enjoy," according to the hotel's website. "Beyond the in-room experience, guests are invited to dine in the Todd English Food Hall to taste-test a 90s inspired menu with upscale versions of childhood favorites, or to head over to the interactive photo-experience where they’ll find themselves in Kevin’s New York journey."
Included in the package is an "over-the-top" ice cream sundae from room service, just like the one Kevin had in the film.
The hotel concierge will also arrange for guests to experience quintessential New York sights, like the Empire State Building, Wollman Rink and a limo trip through the city. Not included: visit with the pigeon lady or guest appearances from Donald Trump.

GOOD MORNING AMERICA'S HOMEPAGE:

$40,000 a night? Thats more than a lot of people make in a year
Most of the people that stay in the $40,000 a night suites got rich off of making everyone else poor. They are ruled by greed.
Andrea Anonymous that’s probably the stupidest comment i’ve ever seen. You’re an idiot
@@medusabitch4771
Actually, no. You however, have just proved yourself to be an ignorant fool. Grow up sweetie.
Andrea Anonymous Haha the person saying that rich people get rich by making other people poor are telling me to grow up? Stop being an idiot, bill gates can afford that and he didn’t make anyone else poor
@@medusabitch4771 Well actually he does through sweat shops.
KEVIN! YOU SPENT $967 ON ROOM SERVICE!?!?!??!?!??!?!??!

What a. Cheapskate! ... Can pay $40000 / night!! , but. Food is too ✖pensive ... ?! ...Sounds like Me!!!! 😂

The ultimate experience for a Home Alone fan. So cool.
One of the so called best hotels in the world doesn't have a pool?
They do..its inside..u didnt see kevin in the movie dive in? He even ask the 2 old guys politely of he could dive.
My bad..the pool was on chicago
So weird to think that Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is 25 years old
staggmovie That movie had notable landmarks including the Twin Towers.
Time flies so fast.
It's 31 years old now!!
The plaza Hotel room was Designed better in the movie, with the warm color walls dark red and forest green and the Gold. More fancier and richer looking.
Son~Rize it was 26 years ago
That was done to emphasize the warmth of Christmas.
Looked 40,000 in the movie not today
@Gloria M I definitely get what you mean & something’s missing for sure. Maybe not enough decor or paintings but it’s something. When he went in the bathroom it didn’t look as nice as I thought it would be.
That's cause it was really the Hilton in Chicago
This guy has a good job
I think Kevin was supposed to stay longer than one night but they scared him away when discovering the stolen credit card. And of course his family got a complimentary Penthouse suite as an apology for the way they handled the credit card situation.
MrWill1985 is real the Penthouse suite Given to the family??
No, the room that the family stays in at the end of the movie is at the 4 seasons hotel in Chicago.
no dude keven and fiamyl at of alone 2 are stel in the new York hotel way thinkt he give ekvne dad the bil and hwo wodo kevne saee that woman at end of movie of ther not in new yrok dude she ony ni new York
They should have just let him stay awhile since they didn’t know kid was missing and he needed a room to stay.

You dont even need to call for reservations. You can actually do it online now days. I usually make my reservations online when I reserve a room.
MrWill1985 by telephone is better
Γεωργιος PRIVATE why?

Mac's new podcast is right there in the recommendations.

I'd give anything to have a stay like Kevin did in the movie. Go from country bumpkin to Manhattan princess for a night.

Definitely would love to Do this....🎄😍
This is great.
Okay that is on my bucket list right along a trip around the world before I die. 😇
$400,000 a night to stay in the royal plaza?? Bruh. Count me out on that one
So an average room is 1000 a night that's not bad at all
home alone 2 was the best in the series
The plaza hotel seems really nice rich and Luxurious
Trumps hair was more grey in 1987.
Nice idea!!!
So coolllllllll!!!
Wow it was awesome
MACAULAY YOU SPENT $967 ON ROOM SERVICE!!!!!
Buzzfeed will be ripping this off soon. Cute video.
Love the name
Welcome to Plaza Hotel!
do you know what room they filmed in
amazing
Now days you can book online at most hotels. I usually book online when I stay in a hotel
I thought it would be way more $$ to stay right next to central park in the plaza. I mean what is an air/bnb in brooklyn 450.00 a night?
Kevin dad must be rich. His dad payed for all the tickets for the vacation in the first and second movie. Not to mention the parents are in business class seats including the uncle and aunt.
Kevin was right his uncle is a cheapskate because he wold not help pay for the pizzas to help the families out in the first movie and at the end of the second movie when everyone is opening presents he the one saying don’t open any of my parents when it was because of Kevin who help out on the Toy Store so the family got all the presents in the first place
MICHAEL!
YOU SPENT $878 ON ROOM SERVICE? 2:06
Yea but what was the plaza name. And is it still running.
Wait.. the pool scene was filmed in Chicago. How did kevin went swimming when the plaza hotel does not have a pool.
Movie magic, the movie gave us the illusion that the pool is in the plaza.
@@jasonhylnd001so I'm guessing they filmed the pool scene first in Chicago then filmed the rest of the movie later on
That’s Fun!
Forgot to mention the towers are gone hahah
I want and funny was cool see Donald in the film
I love this movies
MICHAEL YOU SPENT $878 ON ROOM SERVICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really hope you don't have a brother who is a jerk like Buzz! LOL!
967 ppl
by 2020 inflation rate 967 dollars is equal to 1840 dollars. So he actually only spent about 43% as much as kevin did.
Now: KEVIN??!! YOU SPENT $1,840 ON ROOM SERVICE??!!!!
MICHAEL, YOU SPENT $967 ON ROOM SERVICE!!!!
My dream is that hotell☺️
Kevin has grown up and he's still lost in New York City!😂
Just watch out for the sticky bandits and don't forget to take a gangster movie to scare off annoying hotel employees and go to the park and look for the pigeon lady she just might take you to the opera.
Shoes on bed gave me nightmares
MICHAEL YOU SPENT $878 ON ROOM SERVICE!!!!!
does it include $967 in room service?
895 $ just over one night holy moly this is really something for rich business men!
....but for the once-in-a-lifetime experience its good tho XD
This is actually less than what Kevin spent in the movie.
$40,000 a night? Welp. That's my year's salary.
Beautiful Trump tows
KEVIN!!! YOU SPENT $967 ON ROOM SERVICE!?
When I was a kid, I wished.
And Not realizing how expensive it would be to stay there. 😅 Now as an adult you realize how expensive the hotel is
nice
even if 40k a night was chump change to me, i couldn't justify spending that much on a room
I would have to fork over 25.000 dkk pr day for that very room (junior suite).
Would definately be a one time experience since I usually favor hilton.
But I would probably have to win the lottery to afford It.
But I did pull the on the room number with my dad In norway and boy he had the same reaction...
Gee, still no swimming pool after all these years? You would think the movie would have at least given them the idea to build one sometime after the film's release.
1 UNITED STATE OF AMERICA DOLLAR
I thought that it was Ricky Gevais in the thumbnail
Was that limo-driver James Earl Jones??
It’s kind of strange the pool was filmed in Chicago.
How much is the $967 room service these days?
Does it come with being chased by hotel staff in the package?
it better
$40,000 my ass lmao
Hey wheres the inflatable clown for the bathtub????!?!?
40000 $ only ?! No discount ? 🙂👋👍
The pool scene was filmed in chicago
Was it filmed first and the rest of the movie filmed later?
@@user-xv2lq2nh4l I don't know, I didn't even remember that I wrote this comment years ago
You mean you can spend the night like Kevin and get a free cheese pizza in a limousine once you paid a room at plaza hotel? Are they still doing that? But I bet it’s very expensive to be like Kevin McAllister in plaza.
1 UNITED STATE OF AMERICA
Bad ass!!!
