Mornin' Doug! Good on P&O for stepping up and rescuing the stranded students and advisors. Not so good on Charleston for choosing to "opt out" of the cruise industry. Folks who want to cruise from a local port will be inconvenienced, but I really feel bad for the workers and families whose livelihoods are impacted.

A trip back home on a cruise ship should be more fun than a trip on a plane. Looks like a blessing in disguise.
Charleston has been coming up with reasons not to have cruise ships home port there for years. The city (or people) have proposed all types of possible negative side affects of having cruise ships there. Its very clear that that city wants no part of the cruise industry.

We sailed from Charleston once and I can honestly say it was not much of a port as a bunch of old buildings used as parking structures and a nice walk to the actual port and dodging cars and bus traffic.

So sad with Charleston, they’ll rethink their decision once the funds they received are gone. Then it might just be too late to revive with the Cruise Lines. Love the good news story Doug! Cruise ship to the rescue for those stranded volunteers! Celebration Key with be Carnival's version of Coco Cay. Too bad for Charleston, looks like Carnival may move to another small market port based on that story.

I do hope Carnival finds a new port after Charleston closes . We live in raleigh it it is only 4 hrs by car. There are lots of us mid-Atlantic states who use this port

Regarding the cruise port in Charleston...
does that mean that they will no longer have a ship "home-ported" there?
Because there are a variety of ships that are still "calling" on the port through at least May 2025... they just aren't based there.
