  • Join Dustin and Ramey in the UMI Race shop as they transform an old 1978 Cutlass into a weekend warrior with cruising capabilities. In this series they swap the old, worn out, factory suspension with a UMI Performance Stage 2 Handling kit. The UMI Stage 2 handling kit is the - bolt-on and go - way to improve handling and performance. It gives your classic car a modern feel.
In this episode, Dustin finally installs the shiny new rear suspension upgrades from the UMI Performance Stage 2 Handling Kit. This includes the tubular rear lower and upper control arms, as well as the frame brace reinforcements to tie them together. The rear end was also prepped with new polyurethane housing bushings for the upper control arms to be mounted on. After mounting the rear end, Dustin installs the UMI 2” rear lowering springs on the Cutlass to lower it and enhance the ride quality. Finally, he uses the jack to load the suspension and tightens all the parts in place.

Question. I purchased upper and lower arms with rotors-joints,all umi. Now I need rear end housing bushings. Should I go with the rubber, poly , or rotor-joints?? It’s not a race car just a street car. What do you think? Don’t want a hard ride.

With street car I'd recommend the p/n 3000 poly bushing. It will be the quietest and still offer great performance.

When installing the upper and lower trailing arms with the double adjustable do you recommend just setting the arms mid way while installing them

They are shipped to you at approximately factory length. Nominal length is 19-1/4 lower and 11-1/8 upper, center to center.
