Even today, fifty three years after it first flew it still holds all the speed and altitude records for a civil aircraft. And not only that, it still looks like something from the future. Concorde could be in the next Starwars film and not look out of place. What a magnificent achievement it was and what a beautiful aircraft.
Well, it looks modern until it takes off and you see the smoke trails from the engines. Or until you notice the missing IFE screens in the cabin. Or all the analog instruments on the flight deck. 🙂 But I still agree that it's a marvelous airplane. Had the opportunity to see it in person in the early 90s when I visited relatives in London. They were living in Hounslow district at the time, just to the east of LHR.
@@tyta1 Just remember that it was designed, built and first flew over FIFTY years ago. That should help you reconcile your long list of Concorde's perceived shortcomings. IFE screens indeed. Name any aircraft, any aircraft at all, just even one that did not have smokey jet engines fifty years ago or analogue instruments in the cockpit. And go for broke here and for an extra bonus point name any aircraft that had IFE screens. Concorde remains an absolute and unrivaled masterpiece of engineering and it still holds all the commercial aircraft speed and altitude records too and will for a long, long time to come. I flew on it once, Bahrain to London and, alas, no IFE so I had to make do with seeing three sunrises in one day, the curvature of the Earth and the inky blackness of space while travelling faster than a rifle bullet at fifty two thousand feet. Perhaps you would also care to name any aircraft flying today where that is possible. P.S. Most of Concorde's smoke on take off was from its afterburners, yes, that's right, afterburners on a commercial aircraft.
@@Patmofar I watched one come into and leave Charleston, South Carolina in early 90s bringing in European golfers for Ryder Cup tournament I believe. It was a sunny day and the plane looked very sleek as it made the turn in to the AFB runway. I was a few miles away on its departure. Very loud like the C-5 Galaxy that operate from the base there.
It most likely will continue to hold those records. It was quite astonishing engineering but sadly very unpractical and expensive. Especially now at the time when our regular jet travel is put to question to reduce its impact on global warming it's hard to see any chance for supersonic air travel to return. It's so inefficient when compared to even regular jet travel.
I live near Bristol where concorde was built and I remember as a kid we would all run outside and shout its concorde when she was on her test flights. A crying shame it's no longer flying,so ahead of its time and even today 2022 looks as sleek as it did when built.🙂
When I was 11 my carers wrote to Jim'lll Fix it as I was desperate to touch the nose of Concorde. Thankfully I didn't get a response. Little did I know that because he didn't reply, my carers also wrote to British Airways. I was very fortunate to have been invited to Heathrow Airport and was given a personal guided tour of Concorde, including sitting in the Captain's seat, by the very man himself, Captain Brian Walpole. 40 years later that memory is something I cherish.
When I was a kid the crockery in our kitchen would rattle very gently, it was so quiet and small a movement it was easy to miss, but it would do it at the same time every night, for years we had no idea what was causing it, then the Concorde crashed in Paris, and the fleet was grounded, no more rattle. Our Crockery was picking up the shockwave of Concorde going supersonic over the Atlantic on its was to New York.
As French kid in the early 80's when people were talking about the Concorde we were always so proud and a bit emotional thinking that France was a part in the making of this magnificent airplane. It was the pinnacle of human engineering, it was astonishing and intimidating at the same time.
Yes, I had the pleasure to witness it in person at Speke Airport (now Liverpool John Lennon) in the 80's. I enjoyed jet aircraft and was used to them but to be directly behind her at take-off with afterburners engaged was bordering on the terrifying - you're whole body shook from within. An truly unique and extraordinary experience.
I had the opportunity to appreciate it from onboard, during a supersonic pleasure flight from Birmingham Airport in 1991. You really felt the power, when it took off. The acceleration on takeoff was even more noticeable than in a normal aircraft, and you experienced it a second time when they finally took it up to Mach 2. The additional sensation with that, was feeling it go through the sound barrier, as the shock wave changed shape around the aircraft and gave it a slight lurch.
Flew on it in 1994, what a lovely experience..Washington DC-London in 3 hours 20 minutes, still had time for a flight to Hamburg before the sun set….no jet lag for two days…wanted one more ride but…👍🏻🇬🇧
Absolutely fabulous.. It was fantastic watching Concorde do a fly pass over Aintree racecourse on grand national day. It definitely made its presence felt.
massive respect to the engineers who worked their asses off getting this beauty into the skies....today we take this for granted...what with boom etc vying for another crack at supersonic travel....a word to those newcomers.....speedbird was here first!!!
We lived several miles away from LBA and could tell instantly when it took off . Very noisy when it flew overhead but a magnificent aircraft. Style doesn’t get much better!
Excellent footage of a beautiful aircraft, I remember visiting Kew Gardens and watching an aircraft coming overhead so close together to land at Heathrow, but the special ones were Concord, a lot noisier, but the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end.
merci infiniment pour cette vidéo originale MAGNIFIQUE CONCORDE l unique avion supersonique commercial parti à la conquête de l air et de l espace.. 1 fille de pilote concorde 8 décembre 2021✈️💖🌍
I was there that day. Went especially to see it. If I remember correctly it did a go-around the first time it came in and made a tremendous amount of noise as it wentupagain. All the farmers were charging for you to park in their fields to have a good vantage point.
I was working at Yeadon Morrisons one time it took off on a non-scheduled flight. Half the staff ran into the yard to watch it circle round. No mistaking that noise. I seem to recall a story regarding the French pilot, one trip to Yeadon and he refused to land there again.
My dad was scared of flying because he said he couldn't swim (We did tell him the obvious) but he did say the only one he'd go up in was concorde. After the crash he resorted to never flying again. Ironically his first holiday abroad, when he was in his late sixties, was on a cruise. All true. Familys are crazy sometimes.
What a great plane! Superb engineering. It looks terrific on the outside as much as it did on the inside. You really couldn’t tell that it was a different plane except for the flight had a very high altitude and seek could see into space
Concord is the only technology that was developed and far exceeded anything of the time and even now, yet has not been further developed and improved upon. It was, as we all know, just dropped! Why? We should all be able to fly SS now, if this had been refined and improved upon. I cant think of any other technological advance that was dropped in such a fashion!
Remember once playing cricket at Thornton on a Saturday afternoon. We could hear it taking off from LBA and shortly whilst fielding I watched it climb out and fly a circular pattern over Bradford and down to Heathrow with day trippers on a one way trip and back by coach. Great days.
I was privileged to fly on Concorde on the 10th of November 1991, the video is on my channel. Only filmed on a VHS C camcorder so quality bad. Also left the camera on by accident as I had to borrow the camcorder and did not know how to use it properly, lol. Just search for Concorde. Your video is great by the way.
So beautiful today, what it must've looked like next to all the aircraft when it parked up next to all the early 70s aircraft?!? Musta looked like an interstellar faster than light alien built machine.
Sorry, but I was bloody glad when they were grounded. Every Sunday morning, in Alderney, there’d be a frightening bang, which brought the plaster down off the wall. For the sake of the convenience of no more than 100 dreary passengers, those horrible, noisy, antisocial, fuel-guzzling, polluting machines frightened, annoyed, inconvenienced thousands of perfectly people on the ground (or at sea, in their boats) over which they flew. I wish Frank Whittle had never been born. Here’s hoping the fuel crisis grounds ALL jet aeroplanes. If we could build empires without the help of any aeroplanes , we ought to be able to live more peacefully without them. I suggest people go by ship. If there’s no fuel, then sailing ship.
Bring it back to life

A piece of art that looked like it was doing mach 2 while stood still. Phenomenal aircraft.

Thanks for watching and lovely comments.
I've only seen one Concorde in flight, taking off from JFK back in 1996. When they tell you the Concorde is loud, you'd better believe it.
When I was 11 my carers wrote to Jim'lll Fix it as I was desperate to touch the nose of Concorde. Thankfully I didn't get a response.

I remember sitting at Heathrow in 1974 when Concorde returned from her maiden flight to Singapore, people stood up to applaud. Beautiful machine.
Just look at the car's. What a machine. 1991! Thank you.

I lived in Rio and saw one of the first Concorde landing in Galeão airport. When it was goes aways all the people in the city heard the sonic boom.
Unfortunately the fast swan has gone. What a beautiful air craft. Still very sad
