'올지'라는 거하고 '올 건지'라는 게 어떻게 다른지 잘 모르겠어요.
저랑 첫 수업인데도 적극적으로 참여해주셔서 정말 감사합니다, Owen님! 그리고 정말 좋은 질문이에요! and also tricky to answer at the same time. Because in some cases, both sound natural, but in some cases, using -ㄹ/을 건지 sounds unnatural. I tried researching, but it seems there is not one clear answer that shows up. 🤔
First off, "올지" 랑 "올 건지" 둘 다 맞아요. Both are future tense form for indirect question. So, "올지" and "올 건지" are interchangeably used many times.
e.g.
지수가 언제 올지 모르겠어요.
지수가 언제 올 건지 모르겠어요.
=I don't know when Jisoo will come.
But based on my observation, when the subject in the indirect question is "I," it sounds a bit unnatural to use '-ㄹ/을 건지.'
For example, "제가 언제 갈 건지 모르겠어요." as in, I don't know when I will go, sounds a bit awkward. (It doesn't sound terribly wrong, either)
But, "제가 언제 갈지 모르겠어요." does sound 100% natural. Maybe it's because when I'm talking about my own future decision, it sounds better to use -ㄹ/을지.
It also sounds unnatural to say
"내일 비가 올 건지 모르겠어요." as in, I don't know if it will rain tomorrow.
On the other hand, "내일 비가 올지 모르겠어요." does sound natural.
Maybe it's because 비가 오다 is not an "action" verb but more so a "happening" verb, because rain itself doesn't do the action of "coming," but rather it's sth that just happens. So using "-ㄹ/을 건지" in that case might make it sound awkward.
This is just a quick observation I made, and I'm not 100% clear on this either. But I thought it might be a bit more helpful to share this, just for your reference, and maybe you can be conscious of it next time you use -ㄹ/을 건지 and -ㄹ/을지 in a sentence. Maybe you can try using both "-ㄹ/을 건지" and "-ㄹ/을지" as you see fit for a while, and ask a native speaker/teacher to correct it whenever it sounds weird. I think maybe that would help you get the hang of it. 도움이 조금이라도 됐으면 좋겠어요!

Why conjugate only this verb and not other verbs. I know that 어렵다 and 예쁘다 are irregular. For example, other adjectives remain the same and leave out 다 +ㄴ,은지. I'm wondering about verbs like 어렵다 why can't 어렵은지. for example. it can be 예빤지 so why it can't 어렵는지.
instead of typing “지수가 왜 파티에 안 갔는지 궁금해요” i put “파티에 왜 지수가 안 갔는지 궁금해요.” is it still correct?

I read the examples in the description box and this one confused me:
👉지수가 예전에 의사였는지 몰랐어요 = i didn't know Jisoo used to be a doctor
When i read "지수가 예전에 의사였는지 몰랐어요", i thought the correct translation would be "i didn't know if/whether jisoo was (used to be) a doctor"
And i also thought that "i didn't know Jisoo used to be a doctor" (she was a doctor 100%, there is no doubt about this... So -는지 is not accurate) in korean would be "지수가 예전에 의사였을 줄 몰랐어요"

this question fried my brain 😭 but I understand where you're coming from, and it's a smart question. I didn't include that sentence during class on purpose because I figured it's difficult to break down. But now I can see it's not a completely grammatically correct sentence, although it is spoken like that when we're casually speaking without being conscious of the grammar. Actually, "지수가 예전에 의사였는지 몰랐어요" would have to be "지수가 예전에 의사인 줄 몰랐어요." or "지수가 예전에 의사였을 줄 몰랐어요." to be completely correct. Sometimes though, when we're speaking, we tend to use "지" in place of "줄." I'm not sure if that's grammatically acceptable or not though (like officially). I think it would be better to talk more about this when we're learning "-ㄹ/을 줄 모르다/알다" grammar, because it's quite different from "-는지 모르다/알다." Thank you for bringing this up though. @@KoreanwithMissVicky i have also discussed this with a korean person and they told me these examples:
난 어제 비가 왔는지 모르겠어요 = I don't know if it was raining yesterday (maybe it was raining maybe not)
난 어제 비가 왔는지 몰랐어요 = I didn't know that it was raining yesterday (but now i know - it was raining for sure)
So i noticed that when 모르겠어요 changed to 몰랐어요, the whole grammatical principal completely changed. And as you said maybe this is not official, but at the end of the day if every Korean person uses it like this, we should learn it like this...
