The MS-05B Zaku I

- Introduced in UC 0077, the MS-05B Zaku I was the Principality of Zeon’s first true mass production mobile suit. Although designed as a front line combat unit, the Zaku I was soon replaced by the improved MS-06F Zaku II as the mainstay of Zeon’s mobile suit forces. Early during the One Year War of UC 0079, most Zaku Is were relegated to menial construction and supply duties, although a few continued to serve in combat roles. During the war’s opening days, Zaku Is were also used in other combat-related work roles, such gassing of colony populations, attaching booster engines to space colonies to hurtle them towards Earth, and so on. It wasn’t until the last months of the war that Zeon, desperate after facing losses in Operation Odessa and Operation Star One, moved the old Zaku Is back to the front lines to reinforce their faltering main forces.
I like how the fact that the literally older zaku in the line had a stronger durability that it can hold the beam saber to fully slash a zaku 1
Technically speaking the Zaku 1 was slightly more durable than the early versions of the Zaku II because it didn't have the vulnerable exposed power cables the Zaku II had. The Zaku II's design was made to focus on lowering cost in various areas, while also offering superior performance and greater ease of maintenance. But the exposed cables were always a liability in my opinion
U.C. Engage is the gift that keeps on giving. Char retaking Zum city and kicking ass in a Zaku I (in addition to the battle of Loum) should show why people feared him before the Gundam reduced him to a villain of every other week.

Apparently it was easier for commanders to have Zaku I's delivered to them than Zaku II's as logisitics was easier in that regard because they had a lot of Zaku I's in storage, I think I could see soldiers modifying them to enhance their fighting capabilities to be on par with Federation suits, I mean Darmac Barlow modified his Zaku I to have two shoulder shields and an arm shield that could hold and fire zaku bazookas and sturm fausts though that was in the UC 0090's.
Don't forget Garret Schmitzer of the Midnight Fenrir corps and Norris Packards spike knuckled zaku 1!
Or you could modify a zaku I with a reconnaissance head unit, external generator, and a beam sniper rifle and turn it into a sniper platform and in other Mangas and novels if they didn't have a beam generator backpack they would instead modify a Magellan top into a sniper rifle chambered in the same tank rounds and modified the turret into a variable scope, you get creative with the zaku I because it's a general purpose machine that can be modified and customized upon since it's base chasis is so simple and basic
GM's are better than zaku I and II.
@@shadowblack1987 As we know Zeon didn't make those, and Zeon didn't have a choice of what it could or couldn't field by the end of the war
@@shadowblack1987 On paper, yes, but logistically speaking, not nearly by enough. The GMs were awfully mediocre for something with technically better armor and thrusters.
The Zaku I and all its variants/customs are my favorite Mobile Suits. So that UC Engage clip was a treat.
Zaku I my beloved, always will be overshadowed by its younger siblings but will always be number 1 in my heart
I'm really happy to see your channel is back, I genuinely think it's a pillar of the Gundam community and I love rewatching some of the clips you've uploaded as inspiration for kits or just to see the Silver Bullet get dumpstered with honor one more time

very nice vid, i love the Zaku I. Kinda wished you included some scenes from Thunderbolt too, like when a Zaku I kicks a fighter midair (during io's flashback scene).
UC Engage certainly went out of their way to draw the Zaku I as menacing as imaginable.
dude, Gundam Origin showcase how terrifying to fight Zaku Is, The Tristars Zaku Is decimated the Iron Calvary Guncannon Type-1 like they are mere cannon fodders be be slaughtered, though they got Ramba's Bugu as a squad.

And then Char found his MS-14S Gelgoog Commander Type, completely repaired and upgraded using backpack taken from the MS-14B Gelgoog High Mobility Type, as well as replacing the severed arm from the battle with Amuro's Gundam, with an arm from the MS-14F Gelgoog Marine. But then the Axis engineers, found a way to integrate a lot of equipment from the backpack into the very Gelgoog Char piloted, streamlining it into what would become an "Outer Space Type" MS-14U Gelgoog. I wonder if this variant outperforms the MS-14JG Gelgoog Jäger? But I doubt it, the JäG was a beast in its own right.
Where is most of this footage even from? Its shockingly nice. I want to watch whatever it is.

That was, if I recall right, the Zabi home/palace. It was like that in the original anime too.

And then Matt Austin and Lee Swaggard could get beastly ones for Zeonic Front with chunky armor and heavy weapons with the right parts. Technically Land types, but still keeping with the spirit of Zaku I's potential.

What is that last footage from? What's the context? Looks like a post-OYW guerilla war being fought inside Side 3.
Was the last one clips from a video game? I never saw the last clips with char in a regular Zaku 1. It almost looks like it's after the war or during a federation occupation with resistance on side 3 almost. To me at least probably wrong.

Zaku 2 equipment is compatible with the zaku 1 I think
Well, yes, but actually, no, it would be called the MS-05Q and not a zaku 2
some part maybe interchangeable, but if you think you could just slap zaku 2 part into zaku 1 and turn it into zaku 2, its no actually. its still has many different part that sinmply incompatible because its has different design
