Personally, this was my first time listening to this piece and I was a little surprised because it sounded a bit like Rachmaninoff to me.

My favorite musicians are Gabetta on cello, Hilary Hahn on violin, and Lim HyunJeong on piano. Their playing wakes me up.
Great playing! If somebody knows anything about this old piano I am an eager listener.
I think it is from about 1880-1890 and as someone commented in sonata nr 1 it comes from Julius Blüthners Piano Fabric. A different sound from todays Steinway. Different but not bad at all. It is interesting to follow the developement of piano sound through history.
And here's Chamayou making it look like the easiest thing in the world.
