    Space dandy made me feel a special kind of way when it first came on. The space surfing scene and the episode where he helps an alien girl on the train were my favorites mainly because of how pretty everything looked combined with the music

    It’s hard finding shows that are so incredible but have one feature that detracts people from watching it, examples of this are: Made In Abyss, Mob Psycho 100 and, of course, Space Dandy. They are rejected of their merits because of their content, art style and the way they express their ideas. And it’s hard to get friends to watch these shows. Thank you for possibly aiding me in my ability to get people into Space Dandy

    • @thenew4559

      I'm not really sure what element of Space Dandy or Mob Psycho you are referring to. If you are talking about the lack of continuity in Space Dandy, I've never really heard of anybody finding that as a bad thing. It is literally the best aspect of the series.

      Same with Kekkai Sense. Basically you got anime fans who watch shit shows and ignore good ones because there isn't some grand plot that last for 80 episodes yelling inuyasha and kagome every second episode.

  • @dolphinboi-playmonsterranc9668
    @dolphinboi-playmonsterranc9668 4 года назад +51

    When you see a bunch of jokers get serious, that's when you really feel the weight of the emotions that afflict the cast. That's why a joke character is important. That's why it's important to use them well. You can't just have them appear to make a funny joke, they're used to reinforce the somber tone too. Like in MASH. When the doctor is happy and telling jokes, you laugh, but when the jokes stop, you start paying attention to why he tells those jokes in the first place. Knuckleheads are easily misused in media. Dandy does it right so many times, like the Laika episode(Which made me cry), the ukelele man, and even the emo kid fanfic episode to an extent.

    Great video. I'd love to rant about this show but a youtube comment section isn't the proper medium. I'm happy to see someone else pick up what I assume Watanabe meant to put down. This show is so incredibly deceptive, it doesn't just warrant rewatches; I feel it deserves the viewer's individual analysis. Once you break the surface of ez boob fart jokes it turns into some sort of commentary on creative freedom, among other things. Good shit man.

    Space Dandy is ridiculous under appreciated. People just don't give it a chance and don't make it through the first few episodes but by the end I loves every episode even more than I did the first time and I have favorite episodes that I watch every now and again which is really weird to just watch a single episode from the middle of a show multiple times but some of the stories are just so worth rewatching. Space Dandy is truly unique and I'm surprised its not more known. I just think there are a lot of people with bad taste in anime. It's fine to like the generic shows that come out every season and hell I do too, but when someone's favorite anime is one of those generic shows it's usually because they refuse or haven't seen masterpieces like these.

  • @chevcamaro7241
    @chevcamaro7241 4 года назад +1

    Space dandy imo one ups bebop, delivering on great comedy, introspection and sadness, and due to the episodic format of the series it allows the writer and directors to stretch and bend and mold the characters and stories into whatever type of story they want to convey, the uber fun dancing episode, the enticingly interesting episode about sentient plant life with a bleak ending I could never forget if I tried, the episode where dandy goes to the afterlife which imo is one of the single best pieces of anime ever, and SO MUCH MORE stuff that has left a deep, stupendously important mark on how I think about anime, art, characters, settings and even life itself, bebop is an all time classic which every generation of anime fan should watch and is undeniably good, but space dandy is it’s fruition, it is the completely realised version of bebop and every other show about badass drifter making there way through life among the stars

    Space Dandy is a great anime where you have mindless comedy mixed with deep philosophical morals and slight satire hints of actual cultural elements like Boobies and the Gogol Empire. The music and animation flawlessly capture the cosmos vibe and the brightly colored scenery is absolutely beautiful. Some people might find it weird but that’s only because Space Dandy is unlike any other anime out there completely breaking the standard so I would say it’s for people who have a refined taste. Even though it’s a science fiction show it still has hints of spirituality and cosmic mystery all of this blended together makes a recipe for a unique timeless masterpiece.

    One thing to realise about Dandy is that he uses 'boobies' as a coping mechanism. He has an inability to express his true self. This can be seen in episode 6, when he tells the girl that he's heading out to boobies. Yet in reality he goes to find more info. Dandy as a character is always trying to live to his fulist even if it's detrimental for him, his reluctance is a smart way to show optimistic nihilism in anime. And for those who describe as misogynistic, he's been created as a character that can't face reality or more so doesn't even want to or Can't. This can be seen when he gets given the chance to be god, rejecting it to live in his own world rather than be apart of the world.
