I literally just found a random pineapple last week in my garden in Norther NSW. I was wondering when to pick it…thank you Mark, I’ll watch this after work tonight!!
pineapple is my favorite fruit. I can't imagine how good a home grown fresh pineapple would taste. very jealous sir. no way I could grow them in my climate, unfortunately.
i have about 20 pineapple plants in south florida. in my experience ya pick it when its about half yellow if you want the sweet and tart taste. full yellow can be too sweet. like a potato turns to starch, a pineapple turns to sugar.

I'm a little confused because pineapple absolutely ripens off the plant. I buy my pineapple green, and a week later it's orange and ripe from ripening off the plant..
They're known to soften, like they will eventually rot on the counter, but they won't ripen in the sense that starches won't convert to sugars. They won't get any sweeter after picking.

Fruits are made of living cells that die and rot.

Which fruit last longer before it spoils? A ripe fruit or a fruit not yet ripe? By picking fruits that aren't ripe increases the chance said fruit won't spoil before its purchased.

And durian too!
In Indonesia there are a lot of pineapples and durian with several varieties 😊
This video was perfect timing. I’ve got a pineapple out the front and was just wondering this.

You can also smell the bottom of the pineapple. That's the best way to test them at the grocer.
