- First ever unassisted solo kite foil around the Isle Of Wight. 73 miles (120KM) in 3 hours 42 mins. The last time it took me 6 hours but we messed around for a bit and took a break. The sailing record is held by a MOD70 at 2 hours 22 minutes, however I wasn't trying to break it, just push my limits by going SOLO!
Kite Equipment: Slingshot SST 8M. Ghost Whisperer 590 Wing, 101 mast. Dwarf Craft 3'6 board strapless.

Congrats on the trip round the island Sam, epic! Must have had some serious leg burn!
Very impressive I am a windsurfer and do long rides around S.F. Bay BUT the most I ever did was about 10 miles at most! Plus don't do it anymore since a 2500lbs white shark ate a seal in less then 4 mins by Alcatraz
Respect mate, looked like a wicked trip!
Great video, the efforts you put in for filming an editing is crazy - amazing. Thanks for your work, enjoy every video
Good job. Very proffesional
Thanks!
Absolutely incredible! Thank you for sharing this video!
Only beat the schooner America by something like 7 hours... Inspiring to watch Sam!
Great video! Thanks for taking us along. Now I want a foil!
Amazing- well done Sam. Beautiful video. The shaky tea after hours of intense kitesurfing is heavenly.
Well Done! Massive Leg Burn I bet. Maybe Ibiza is the next island to go around.
EPIC Tom. Well done and super video !!!
Get your yourself to the Baleraic Islands and kite around Majorca
Sam, if you like riding around island, next time you could try around Jersey or Guernsey !
And/Or crossing between France and Jersey !
If you plan to do this, I'm sure we could build a trip with a bunch of riders from both countries (France and Jersey) and have some fun crossing between the two lands !
Sounds good thanks
I can’t tell how much I loved this video.
Thanks for the vibes 🤙🤙
Samyyyy! The kiteman!
Good job Sam! Loved watching this. The foil speed is amazing - I think it took me 4 hours to drive from Needles to Bembridge and back looking for wind in a Vauxhall Corsa - you would have beaten me!!
haha driving around the island is a pain
Great video! Great accomplishment. Inspiring. Well planned and executed. Keep em comin. I just completed kite lessons, got my first kite, harness and board. Thanks for all the tips that help us beginners.
Congrats obviously good planning and great execution - real endurance athlete performance
Well done on completing that Sam, you must of been knackered by the end. Good to see you having a great time after with boys :-)
Cheers mate! It was great fun
Great video. I love fun on the water. I would like to go there.
Great trip and great video. Well done!
Thanx Sam...... perfect video right now trying to change the wife's mind on a 35 foot gass hogin yahte to a nice 33 sailboat just in time with this one thanx
haha yewwww!
One time kiting in Australia I went alone with no one on the beach no one knew I was there and the wind dropped far away like a mile and a half from the shore, shit man I've fainted 2 times in a bay full of sharks had to final release the kite lost my board and yes you know it I didn't have a vest on me, took me 1.5hrs to make it back to the shore and since that day I'm scared as fuck to go alone like you just did, big ball there mate keep it up I'm entertained
I can see this being a record that people compete for in the future..... !
see that happening during cows week.
For sure, I think the best race kiters could beat the record
Very nice achievement man !. Love your videos !
Great video... Shocking tea
That’s amazing Sam! You smashed it too! Nice vid too!xx
Hey! thanks, long time no see! hope you good
Love ur brilliant videos inspirational great music too
The tidal races at the needles can but surprisingly rough. Cramp would be my main concern. Would be great to see Dart to Gurnsey or other long runs, with safety plans etc. Well done.
Yea it was super rough that morning, it was hard going into the tide and wind, especially at 8 am :D
You are truly blessed my friend. Cant Complain 👍👌✌️
Fantastic effort and great vid too!
This is awesome!
Ahhh the single cylinder Yanmar clonker, music to my ears!
Oh yes and the kite surfing is terrifying!
And remember next time, the units are knots and nautical miles. If you want to reference yourself against ANY other on water challenges (yachts, powerboats etc) the knots it is. Remember all your winds are in knots! And if the world has truly changed to kph then I can only hold my head in my hands.
Brilliant travelogue and you should on Discovery Channel with that level of professional editing
Phil B agree, had to convert to kts
I agree but my watch doesn't do knots so I have to do it in kmh or mph and doing the conversion while foiling is tricky, I don't want to get it wrong. The Yanmar is a 2 cylinder actually :D
To reference water challenges maybe, but to connect with a kiteboarding audience who I am pretty sure the vast majority are NOT sailors Km/h is more relatable. As.a Yank, I’d actually prefer mph, but I realize our system is stupid.
Great video Sam
Brilliant.
This guy is cray
Great trip! I ve done 50km yestarday. Foil is cool for low wind days
Amazing, well done 👏 👍
What smart watch is that. Also awesome video. Love it
sunnto ambit 3, thanks
Amazing video!
Nice trip dude
This is awesome, i live on the island, was sick to watch
Inspiring! Kiting and in particular kitefoiling still provides plenty of room for solo adventures compared to sailing (and windsurfing). What's next? Crossing the Atlantic ...
Thanks, yes I think there's so much potential for solo adventures, but the problem is light wind with kiting, you need at least 12+ knots unless the kite doesn't really fly
Great video and footage 🤟🏼
So good mate! 🤙🤙🤙
Love this
Well done Sam - love your vids - keep 'em coming ;-)
thanks
Nice one bloke.
That was seeek Mate! Big congrats :)
Awsome ! loved the video
👏👏👏👏great video.
Just brilliant 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🍺
Nice video!
sick video bro 🤙
Gave the Needles a little wider berth this time ?
Great video. Thank you
yes much much wider haha it was scary by myself
14:58 nothing over a good friend!
Big inspiration and great content! How often do you switch feet? Yesterday I did a 60k from Fortaleza to Cumbuco on just one stance and my knees killed me. Any suggestions at how to learn toeside on weak stance?
Thanks! Its taken years to get used to riding for a long time on the foil, check out my video on how to move your feet, it definitely helps to change your position
Just need a bev-of-babes on a beach barbie with mellow music to finish it off!!!!
Legend 💪
That's epic
Love the video man and I love all the songs too! Any link to the tracks used?
Love the vid man.
Have you ever thought of trying the Ka'iwi Channel from Molokai to Oahu in Hawaii??
That would be awesome!
The anchor in his balls couldn't keep him down lol .. nice work !!
I like this one🤟
Hey Sam, another great videi, thank you. More please! (including technique or tips). What model Oneill wetsuit is that please?
hey thanks, oneill hyperfreak
The title gave impression that kite model was LF SOLO, Good kite for foiling also but I heard the company shut down ?
hey, i meant it was a SOLO mission, I was using a Slingshot SST
They're not making kites anymore. They will still make wings, boards, foils and wakeboard stuff.
Great video Sam. Can you share your GPS file from the mission?
@@davidrimmer1986 hey, thanks! all the info is in the description
Mission accomplished. Amazing and courageous. The filming shots were excellent too. Thanks for doing it. Are you using the SS equivalent of the 330 stabilizer with the 590? I would love to see some Kite the full length of the Red Sea?? Regards.
thanks, yep its the 590 with a 101 mast
Very nice vid as always. How about a crossing next time?
yes I would love to, hopefully when things get back to normal...
Thats super fast! I wonder if someone with a proper racing kite and foil would be able to challenge the record?
The Bridge family did it on race gear in around 3 hours 20 minutes I think
Sam Light wow that’s impressive!
Wooh!
nice video! thats a lot of editing
Epic 🤙
I think that sound when the yanmar engine started is the engine mount are gone
how long is your lines and what model cabreina kite ?thank you great job
20m lines and its a Slingshot SST
I live on the Isle of Wight
You going to do the round the island race next?
If they let me enter I would
So Sam, I also just bought a boat. Mine is in Tortola. What's the best Caribbean Isle to circumnavigate by kite foil? I know you and Jake Kelsick did Antigua. Anywhere else you'd try?
Theres endless islands to go around in the Caribbean, it just depends how far you want to go! I would recommend doing them first with a buddy. What boat did you buy?
@@SamLight I bought a Beneteau Oceanis 411. Barbuda seems pretty doable to make it around, and it's pretty flat so should reduce the amount of wind shadowing on the leeward side.
Awesome video! What kind of watch did you use to track the distance?
I have a sunnto ambit 3 and a yellow brick tracker
@@SamLight thanks for the info.
This is exactly what i dream to dooo
Hey Sam. You seem very numbers driven. I am just starting out foil boarding. You have any estimate how many hours you’ve got on a foilboard? What was the date you first started ? How long till you could go strapless ?
I foiled a mission on open Northsea 40km just recently in 1,5 hours and was amazed by how exhausting that is. Awesome effort! Do you use a longer mast to be less influenced by chop? I found myself crashing sometimes due to lapse in attention on a Hoverglide 95cm mast.
I had a 101cm mast, I have thought a longer mast might help but my setup worked great event in big waves! It was hard work but very fun, thanks for watching!
@@SamLight You've been putting out inspiring content lately, thanks for that!
@@Achtenvijftig Thanks Niels, thats great to hear,I'm trying to step it up a level or two :D
Round Jersey + Guernsey??
Hey bro. Where can i buy the headphones you´re using?
Great video as all ways , and looking forward to the sailing trips 😎🤙 I know you have show in a video about the headphones you are using but I can’t find it please could you let me know what brand they are ? Keep up the good work 🤙💪💪
They are Snugsfit earphones
Sam Light thanks mate
Awesome video and accomplishment! What kind of tracker are you using? Does it have two way communication and is it submersible? I'm looking for something multi functional to kite, boat and run/hike with. There really Isn't much talk of them in the kiting world on RUclips, but I feel like they are a huge asset in an emergency situation, especially when doing down-winders and crossings, or something as insane as what you are doing here!
Thanks, I have a Yellow brick tracker, the link is in the description. You can send and receive text messages but it is a bit clunky, they are expensive as well. There is a new one out called Garmin in reach which is worth looking at. I also take my phone in a waterproof bag
@@SamLight Thanks for the info, I will check them both out. It might make a cool informative video, a review on products like that for the water sports enthusiasts out there, who are looking for some personal insurance while still living on the edge. Really enjoy your how to's, they have seriously helped my personal progression in the sport. Keep up the awesome work man.
I tried kayaking the island, went from gurnard to Ventnor but weather decided to change from what it said
epic
We went to the isles os Scilly a week a go on are boat we have a swan 38
I want to go to the isles of scilly!
what's the music in the beginning ? love that !
downloaded from epidemic sound, im not sure sorry, try shazam?
Mate, epic video. What foil wing did you choose? Couldn't imagine going that speed on the 633
Thanks! its the 590
Reckon you can make it around Ireland ??
not in one go
Sam, you were solo because Tom Court didn't woke up ???
;-)
haha exactly!
Great video! Crossing the channel next?
one day!
What watch are you wearing? Does it have gps?
I have a sunnto ambit 3, yea it has a gps
Well done! - What headphones and watch are you using?
snugs earphones
Hey, what model sailboat is that?
1992
Sailing to go do another form of sailing....what a life??!!
the dream!
Well done. Thanks for sharing with us,. Let’s hope you’ll do the same with your « Hobie kite » next time.😉
Hopefully one day! It made me realise how far it is though...
Holyhead to Dublin 120k crossing
I like the sound of that!
I would be worried about great white shark...
haha I was!!
Take swanson round the isle of white
Eventually! i was thinking about it on this trip but there wasn't much wind on the return voyage and I needed to get back
Get a VR 360 cam!
