    Exactly the video I needed 🙌 I'm about to start medicine as a 25 yr old student, after having just completed my masters. Societal pressures are overwhelming but I would hate to be in a job I dont actually love

    Hi.... that's something I always wanted to know. I also think age doesn't matter if someone can do their job perfectly and more with humanity. Thank you so much 😊

    Thank you for this video. I gave up a while ago the medicine route because I think that I'm not made for it. I love the medicine field, I love theoretically to think that I could be happy working as a medical professionnal, but I realistically I know it's not for me. However, I think a lot about going back to studying (I graduated last year and I'm in a job I like, but not love right now). I don't know yet what I would do, if I do anything. But the question about my age is worrying me, because I already "lost" 2 years while studying to enter medicine, which I failed, then I studied 5 years to become an engineer. So i'm already 2 years older than my peers, and than my boyfriend, with whom I want to have children soonish (3 or 4 years from now). I want to have a passion job, but I don't know how to go there whilst being able to build a family and save some money. I still have some work to do on myself before I can think about how I could reconnect with studying!

      Hi! How did you decide medicine wasn’t for you?

    • @crystaloona
      @crystaloona 4 года назад +1

      @@byaman23 hi! Good question. I guess my shirt answer is that I don't have enough empathy. That's what my father said once (a doctor himself). It kinds of hurt knowing that he thinks that, because I always thought I was a very empathetic person. But, reflecting on my behaviour and feelings when I'm with a suffering person, I don't show my empathy very well. Plus, I am very distracted - I always forget to do things, or I do them too late, and I'm quite clumsy which can be a problem when you literally have lives between your hands. I also can be quite squimish when it comes to operations, even on TV. I know this is a skill that can be learnt, but I feel like it would have been a hassle for me to become a doctor, for all these reasons and more.
      I feel like these can be interpreted as excuses, and I would agree, except that it's more a feeling in myself when I imagine myself in a position like a student doctor or a doctor - or any medical professional. I love the idea, I love the way my name sound with Doctor before it, I love the knowledge it would give me, I love the profession and everything it stands for. However, in reality, I feel like I love more the concept of it rather than the fact of it. The reality of long hours, of night shifts, of the loneliness than can come with the medical secret (not sure how to say that in English), the struggle to have a balanced between personal life and the need to be a good practitioner... This is a life my dad has, and it was not easy, and his health suffered from it, and my child self suffered from it too.
      I guess the first reasons I gave you were, to a certain extent, excuses after all. The real reason may reside in an unconscious desire to not become like my father, as much as I love and admire him.
      Anyway, sorry for this long and not straight answer 😅

      Thank you so much for sharing your journey, and you know, it's exactly just that...a 'journey'. It seems like you know what you want and I can only wish the very best for you that things will fall into place with time! I have those thoughts and concerns too, I think a lot of us do, but as I said, I really hope that things will fall into place and I trust that you will find your way :) take care and good luck!
