I hate the push pin in intel heatsink
Believe or not, this video was still useful for me in 2019
Me to XDD
Still running but need to replace the cpu cooler due to overheating. Amazing been working for years. Any suggestions for a better cpu cooler then the stock one?
Still useful in 2020
Me too in 2020
David M aftermarket ones, but check if your case fits bigger heat sinks
Successfully broke 2 of the white pins. Thank you Intel for your crappy heatsink!
I am grateful that I found this video! I have a heat sink where the pins broke in the circuit board and need to replace the pins. Now I can confidently install and remove the heat sink without damaging the pin ends. Too bad they made the pins complicated instead of a simple push and pull without twisting 90 degrees before pulling them up.
believe me installing the fan is not that easy as this guy shows
i just broke 2 of the pins.... in 2018 lol
I know
omkarjere Agreed.
Actually it is but the pins must be close together, and after the years they have been installed they are much more open then when it’s new. Good luck !
@@hkbh1905 I had one broken since many years ago and used it like that... Now I changed cooling paste again and another one broke. Geez. Still, managed to fit it snugly and it passes the twist test where you twist it to make sure it's truly in there and not moving at all. After that, I did various stress tests and benchmarks and temps were as they should be, at most 65C, seems to be good and can make do with just 2 pins. Now I'm selling that old desktop hoping that it won't cause any issues in the future, hasn't caused any for weeks now so unless they somehow hit it loose again, it shouldn't really matter if there are 2 or 4 pins as long as you can get them in there. In the worst case scenario, they just need to buy a new cooler for, what, 20-30$ and perhaps a few bucks for new paste. Honestly not a big deal when they got this desktop AND good 1080p screen for a mere 300$ because I'm moving and want it gone. The parts alone are worth 500$ at the very least nowadays but to sell it quickly, I had to lower prices.
It will only bend the board if you force it. Chances are you had one or several lock pins already deployed, making it impossible for the plugs to go through the motherboard mounting holes. The black lock pins lock the plugs by spreading the two tangs of the plug slightly, making a secure connection. If they already pushed down you will be unable to push down the plugs! Make sure the lock pins are up by pulling on the plug fastener caps and then pushing them down again with only gentle pressure.
Its useful for me in 2021
product has been phased out but still is good stuff for those working with legacy LGA775 sockets. thanks for this upload. i am inclined to replace my burnout quad core G6600 and MSI P45 with E6600 and Asrock G41C - still the least cost replacement for minimalists like me. instead of running i5 or i7 for coding stuff only.
i found installing the heat sink tricky :S
Whoa, a blast from the past.
Still watching in 2018?
the intel stock fan is a pain, it's very easy to break the white pin
So in 2022 this thing is still a needed video... Just repaired my 15 year old system and had the devils time putting the cooler on.
Who watch this in 2019?
Me.
For me too
Yes,because i still use core 2 duo
Me working with an old 775 mobo, forgot that the socket cover goes over the retention brackets on older ones.
@@level1544 Have you thought about upgrading your Core 2 Duo to a Xeon L5420. I have done this on a Dell Vostro 230 and a Acer Veriton M275. The modded L5420 only cost £5 and have four cores and plenty of speed. Even better they use less power. You need to update the bios CPU microcode but on many motherboards (Not Intel) it's easy. I link to how in a blog I wrote recently.

Years later and this is still the worst cooler design ever.
Not this one this one can cool better than the ones in 2018 and 2019
Actually I never had any problem with lower-end processors (pentium 4 3,4ghz up to i3 7th gen) I don’t know about i5-i7 temperatures, but it looks kinda cool in there 😏
Who still watching this in 2020 because you still actually need it instead of nostalgic purpose.
Adorenu アドレーヌ yeah, watching it for nostalgic purposes, even if I build computers for like 5 years now 👌
Believe or not, this video was useful for me in November of 2020
Very true, anyways.. the stock coolers of cpu's usually end up in the trash bin at my place anyways.
The desinger of this should end up in the trash bin as well
Great Timing with the video,Intel
Thanks for SHOWING! Other videos just talked...
Following instructions now, but typing with gloves is not easy.
Lol
I appreciate the assistance. That fan does not just click click into place either. It took a few times and redos to get it right.
Why am i here ?
Answer: still using my old, rusty, and ancient potato pc ;(
me too ;(
Thank you!
That`s very useful manual in 2012!
Whoever design that push pin heatsink, FU 🤣
Do you still made a LGA775 processor in 2018,,LGA 775 it's legend :V
dude today i wanna change my moderboard and this vid is perfect for me !!!!!!! THX
Well i also have built numerous systems with LGA775 stock heatsinks. I must say, they are not that hard. As long as you make sure the locking pins are not deployed, the plugs enter easily into the mounting holes.
You would do well to not presume I am an incompetent ditsy just giving out advice that I have never tried myself.
Stalker okay so that was my provkem all this time.
I still use P4 524 and socket 775
Will this fit on an LGA775 board that originally had a screw-on cooler?
Yes, as long as you remove any backplate from the underside of the motherboard
@@pkaulf I tried that, and the backplate just wasn't coming off. I ended up macguyvering something with plastic screws and nuts.
how can i replace those pins and put screws to secure the heatsink to the motherboard and what size should i buy
Hello intel
What is the best cooler for 10700K ?
Hello! The Core 10700K has a TDP of 125W. We suggest that you pair a cooler that can handle more than 125W of power. This will provide the processor with plenty of headroom when it is subjected to heavy workloads. Also, there are various factors that determine the performance of a cooler. Some of them are: heat dissipation efficiency and the material it is built with, and factors such as fan speed, airflow, cooler surface area, the thermal compound used, etc. We suggest that you contact your favorite cooler manufacturer to decide the best option for your system and budget. the thing this was the furst era of lga 775 ptocesors
Here I am fixing my father's 14 year old computer. Swapped heatsink and still runs well!
The amount of glue I had to use to reattach white plugs is unbeliveable, one of worst heatsink designs
DAT RESOLUTION
Yes
if i change my cpu for a system like this, you still need to put thermal paste?
Helpful in 2023❤
Can we use same processor fan on i5 3gen and pentium dual core ?
Can I reduce the fan's fan on the base plate? Some program?
Dirt Max you mean fan speed
This is so 2005/2006.
ns it is so nostalgic actually
Thx Intel
I like this video. You should make the same version (real movie, no computer animation) to LGA 1151 :)
94PeterQ it is actually the same thing
Edit: I mean the pins are just a lot more but the application remains the same for more than 15 years now
Thanks Intel.
Had to use this for my ultra performance Pentium G3250.
Believe it or not i am about to do this for the very first time in 2023!! Wish me luck :-P unfortunately its not quite retro or nostalgic its just old tut at the moment!
Sure
a 90s video in 21st century!
Still watching in 2019. 775 is internal
I am holding a P4 650 in my hand as I type this.
Is that a d850mv?

Мне полезно в 2023г!
Daaaamn... Isn't it 2012 ? I think I've just got invented time vehicle. You have to drink 10 beers in 2 minutes, and that's it.
Did a time traveler make this in the 90s? :0
And I still struggle to take the fan off a core 2 duo .... SERIOUSLY I broke a clip trying to put the fan back
You had one job.. ONE JOB!
There are 775 P4's so, probably about 13 years old? Give or take a year.
I actually did use new paste but i guess it's fine.
Love this video:)
I hope Intel is still creating a stock cooler😦😦😦
They will, but as u might now, r bullsh....
They still produce these coolers, but only on locked version of a processor, because ok unlocked ones, it will take fire because of higher temperatures due to overclocking >> (85 degrees or more...)

actually, that heatsink is better than i9 10900F stock cooler nowadays. why you're not making these heatsink anymore, Intel?
Hello! Thermal solution paired and provided for/with a processor completely depends on its TDP wattage, max power consumption and, the maximum temperature that the processor can handle. The chips that have lower TDP does not require large coolers and hence cuts down on factors like: weight of a system, E-waste, and cost. If you'd like to discuss this further, send a DM or PM to our Twitter or Facebook accounts, and we'd love to answer your queries.
@@Intel Ok, there is something that i have to say.
Why you're not include a very good tower cooler and good seperated thermal paste at high end unlocked CPUs? Remember when i7 980X launched 10 years ago, you include a very good tower cooler and thermal paste, that uses bolts not pins.
And please, on next CPUs, please include a cooler that uses bolts, not pins, also quieter fan and, sorry i have to say this, better looking cooler.
By the way, thanks to respond my comments! I will discuss this later on Twitter or maybe Facebook.
I hate the Intel stock locking pin mechanism, the material breaks easily.
You were quite behind the times in 2002.
i have a pentium 1 cpu at home but i need a board for it
klb161 I have one too !!! But unfortunately I can’t find socket 7 motherboard anywhere
Pentium 4 = high end gaming
how is it old technology
Wow I can find a way to remove my PentiumE6600 now in 2023
use Arctic silver 5 thermal compound BEST AROUND!!!
as long as it is not a core 2 quad
AMD CPU not clear, installed instructions instead
aewcte987126v 😆😆😆
Now i know how to install this cpu fan that would Always break himself
Inserting Pins Into Motherboard
( This Sucks !!! )
who is watching in 2025
this is a disturbing experience
The worst heatsink design. Takes time to install, does not grip well and easily broken
Anybody know where I can find a new one Intel Core 2 Q6600 on the cheap? I hate that they're at end of life -_-

The worst heatsink design ever made
I build computers all the time, but I still have not successfully installed a stock Intel heatsink. I swear it being possible, let alone so easily, is a myth.
Worlds sh.ttiest cpu & heatsink design. Those snaps never attached & detached correctly.
why dont you fuckin make cooler even like that now!! ur making it even smaller and making chocopie now i like AMD instead now i hate intel ur just making things bad compare to these times even the CPUS
Worst mounting system ever made.
it's 2020 and-
The majority of the word are poor!
Fun fact this was the first ever lga 775 cooler
