    Goddamn. The head start you're giving these pups is absolutely incredible! I feel like if my Mal had that kind of a head start, especially on the desensitization, he wouldn't have such a fear problem right now at 10 months old. But we've put in a TON of work and it's finally getting noticeably better! 😊

      @modernmalinois  7 месяцев назад +66

      He may also be going through a "fear period" usually 3/6/9/12/18 months they go through little periods where they're afraid. ALL dogs do. They don't last, as long as you don't make big issues out of whatever they're being afraid of and don't coddle them.
      Of course, the time frames 3/6/9, etc, aren't set in stone because every dog is an individual.

      Do you have video or book recommendations for this issue? Mine was a rescued when she's about 5 months old, and because I live alone in a quiet residence area and have no car, she became more frightened with a lot of things, most notably vehicle's loud noise & big size. That makes it hard to take her for a walk, or going to vet. She's almost 2 now, and I hardly find training video for this type of pups@@brendad7559

      @@modernmalinois absolutely - same with human babies. if there is an adult around who can contain their feelings they will learn to selfregulate as well as the adult around does (or does not - then we have reactive dogs - and children... brains are not the same in humans and dogs, but nerves are... ) 🙂 there is a german dog trainer who shows this with even adult dogs like caucasian shepherds, kangals and such. she is a hell of a woman. no violence but absolute training of self regulation and social behaviour with fences in between the dogs in the beginning but creating situations in small steps where agressive and reactive dogs with bodyweights heigher than herself experience social interaction as soothing and beautifull. she rescues these dogs and also lives with a dozen of them (!!!!!) in her and her husbands house. husband is also dedicated to this kind of work with the dogs. her name is mirjam cordt.

    Two questions:
    1. How does feeding mostly through training relates to dogs growing up constantly looking for food? I heard that was a thing but not sure...
    2. How long do you lure them? With this young puppies do you still lure just until they perform well? Or do you additionaly use some age minimums or something?
    I would love to hear you going full on webinar on how do you use lures, what mistakes you see an how to avoid and what exactly do you do, for how long etc. since your approach seems to be what most people consider mistake in training with food and yet you seem to have great results with it.
