Love your videos. Although I'm retired (74 yeara old), I NEED routine! I go to bed at 10pm and I'm up by 7am. Quiet time and cafe mocha then begin my day. Whatever I want to accomplish MUST be done before noon because after that, my energy dwindles. I am a widow so motivation has been an issue for me. Baby steps help me reach my daily goals.
My days and nights are really mixed up. Don't know what is going on. 3 or 4 am is my bed time. Usually up after 6-7hrs of sleep. Don't know if that's good or not😢.
Dawn, being retired now I do not like structuring my day. Except when I have appointments. This is because after 45 years working full time in nursing and getting up at 5am. Every morning to drive across our city Fibe on the floor working by 6:45 am. Drove me up the wall, crazy all those years. I sleep in most mornings now and love it! Any time is coffee break time! 😆😀
Same here! I also was a nurse and every morning getting up at 5:00 I would say to myself I can’t wait until I retire and I’m going to sleep as long as I want. No that I’m retired I do! Yeah!
Funny thing is, I loved retirement because I was in control of HOW I structured my day. I was never an early bird, and had to do it over 30 years as a teacher. So I don't get up extra early. But I stay busy all day doing things I want to do, and appts when I want to make them (unless the office is hard to deal with). We retired people DESERVE controlling our schedule! We paid our time!!!
Great positive on the life of a retiree! Like you, I worked early hours..slave to.my choices...worked to have my children in athletics, dance, best public school district that I could afford. My efforts paid off ...now I am blissfully on my own schedule
Even though I've been retired for 10 years, I always have a bed time routine. I go to bed around 8:30 - 9:00, and I wake up between 5 - 5:30. I don't set an alarm. I love my quiet time alone in the morning before my husband gets up!
Sitting down is the kiss of death to motivation for me. I end up reading too much. Move, move, move - that is what I keep telling myself. I am a work in progress.
Yes, another night owl here who goes to bed "around midnight." My bladder wakes me up about 3 times during the night/early morning. I generally get up after the third time. Naps no good for me, I'm afraid. Causes insomnia. 😨 Retired, BTW.
Been retired for 5years now. Found that getting up at the same time and going to bed at about the same time works for me. When I was younger I used to stay up Friday and Saturday nights and come Sunday night, couldn’t get to sleep. Surprise, Monday mornings were hell. Stopped doing this in my late 30ies and since I am a morning lark, regulated my sleep patterns, not perfect but way less hell on those workdays
I'm glad you have adjusted! I'm at the mercy of the guy upstairs and lady downstairs! I sleep when they let me. I really prefer, and am happier, with more structure. And i value sleep so much.
Hi Dawn! Wonderful video! I find as a senior lady that it’s even more beneficial to keep to the same sleep schedule. When my sleep schedule varies for any reason (travel, nighttime thunderstorms, etc) it puts a stress on my body that I don’t need in my 60s. Plus I feel it helps with fitness recovery- which is less efficient as we age.
I’m retired and have been for nine years, but I still go to bed at 10 or 10:30 and I’m up at six. My body is just used to that schedule. I’ve done it for many, many, many years.
YES! When I retired, my sleep schedule (and my productivity and my health) took a nose-dive. I discovered the same thing you did. A regular sleep schedule is key to good health. There's lots of research that shows that a good sleep schedule improves mood, productivity, and with athletes - recovery after hard work-outs. I am retired now, and realize i have always been a night owl. Alternating shift work destroyed my sleep patterns, in my working years. I think there is room and a purpose for both, early birds and night owls. Ŵe live in a 24 hour world. Not every job can be done in the day time. Quiet time can be had no matter which sleep pattern one chooses. I have taken the word, should, out of my vocabulary, and am much happier for it. I applaud you for figuring out what works best for you. Keep up the good work.❤
I’m still working FT at home but it’s a set schedule. I shoot to be in bed by 11 and I get up 6:30am. I’m used to it and even on weekends I’m awake within 30 mins of my usual time. One tip I did learn is that I can’t sit down when I’m done work. I will fall asleep. If I’m really tired and just can’t keep my eyes open there’s a trick my sister learned in nursing school. You can lay down on the bed face up but your feet must both be on the floor. That way you get to shut your eyes but you don’t get into a deep sleep.
In bed by 8:00 asleep by 9:00 awake at 5:30-6:00 depending on my dog’s stomach’s! lol! Have 2 cups of coffee while checking accounts and email. Showered and starting house chores by 9:00 am! The only change is on Sundays. We attend 8:30 mass so have to be up and out earlier! 😊
I follow a daily routine that I enjoy and that works for me. I go to bed and get up at the same time everyday. I am flexible if things come up. The less decisions I have to make over little things like this frees up my mind to better handle the bigger things in life. The simpler I make my life the better it is :)
I have a routine, too, and it really helps. You don't need a fancy multi step routine. Get up,make bed,use bathroom, gather whatever diahes, cups, etc are around. That's a routine right there.
In the summer time I’m so busy that I like to get up before the sun rises and that makes me tired enough to go to sleep around 11:00. During the winter time I hibernate because my RA kills me in cold and being in Kansas. Good topic. Love 💕 and Hugs. 💙💙💙
Bedtime for me is between 9:30 and 10:00 p.m. and wake up around 5 a.m. Three days a week I walk 3-4 miles as soon as there's light. I enjoy the peacefulness and relative quiet at that time of day. Food shopping is always Saturday at 7:30 a.m. when the Navy commissary opens early for seniors, then home to do laundry. I like these events being on autopilot, but haven't been successful sticking with a housework routine. I think it's time to give that a try again.
Lynn here I go to bed at 8 every night and I’m up at 7. I’ve always needed more sleep. I’ve done this schedule for years . Even when I was a kid and I’m 74
I try to go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time every day. That really helps. After a while, your body tells you, bedtime!,
That is a coincidence. Just today I was thinking how I need a routine, a schedule. Because I don't work a regular job anymore, and the grandkids I babysit aren't school-age yet, there is no routine in our lives, and now all of our sleep schedule is all messed up. We need to go back to a routine.
I’m going through the pain at night now - knee arthritis that is only really painful at night. My sleeping is so disturbed now. Every day I’m exhausted. Going to PT now. Helping a bit.
Hi, Money Mom, I do have a routine about going to bed and getting up. The thing is... it's terrible!!! I keep trying to go to bed at midnight, but I don't manage that. I'm ashamed to say how bad my sleeping habits are. I've always been a night owl, and I worked graveyard shift for years and years. It's been years now since I've had to do that, but it's so embedded in my system that I haven't been able to work myself out of it. I keep trying though. Hearing of your success is definitely encouraging. It reminds me to try harder, and keep at it until I'm successful, too. Thank you for your reminder!! Love to you and your family!! ❤😊
I usually settle into bed at about 9:30 to watch some TV and fall asleep between 10 and 11 pm. My alarm is set for 6 am but most times I'm awake before then. Usually start with prayer while I"m laying in bed. Just being Thankful to God for another day. Then some stretches in bed to get the old bones loosened up. I start a cup of coffee in my Keurig, while that's brewing I empty my dishwasher. I am totally a morning person and I agree a set schedule does make me so much more productive and I just feel better physically.
We have a family routine of us all going to bed at 9:30pm-10pm( 2 adults, 2 teenage boys ages 12 &14) Dad's up & out of the house by 5:30am Mon-Fri. Mom up with the boys at 7am out the door to school at 8:10am Mon-Fri. I'm not working right now but find myself being lazy after kids leave for school for most of the day, looking forward to going back to work on a regular routine.. Feeling guilty bc I haven't worked in 2 months😪
I'm so glad you've been able to set your sleep pattern. I still struggle with insomnia. If I don't have an appointment the next day, I don't set an alarm. I may stay up all night. It's awful. I want to get on a schedule. I'm working on going to bed by 11:00. However, I don't go to sleep. I've heard about a sleep course given by the Cleveland Clinic. It's 6 weeks long, and I'll start it when we'll be home that long. Love to all, Linda 💕
I want to stay up all nite, then I'm very tired until about 11 am. Such a wasted morning. I do get quite a bit done afternoon, and nite time. I quess before I retired I worked alot of second and plenty of third shifts. I think it causes you to eat more to feel more awake.😢
@joycook1191 Yes, the next day is wasted. I actually didn't sleep last night. I slept from noon to three. I did cook dinner, cleaned up, did some laundry, and am going to bed now. I think nighttime snacking is somehow tied to insomnia.
I worked dayshift for most of my career, went to evening shift 6 years ago, absolutely love it, immediately felt 10 years younger! I usually go to bed around 1:30 to 2 AM and sleep until about 9 ( occasionally 10) get up go to the bathroom, feed the cat, make a cup of coffee, take my vitamins, check the weather, usually cook some dinner to leave for my son ( and if I’m taking my supper to work with me) shower and dress for work, but my routine will change after Friday as that is my last shift before they close my work location and I retire, I wasn’t planning on retiring ( I’ve been offered multiple jobs) but I decided I’m retiring and I’m seriously looking forward to spending some time at Lake Michigan this summer ( 2 hours away) and going on trips with my ladies group at church monthly and going to see my son and his spouse in Chicago 😄( my son in Chicago got me a senior citizen train discount, Illinois allows Indiana residents the same privileges they offer their residents so I can now travel to Chicago very economically 😀)
That's great that you have nailed down a sleep schedule!🎉 I have always been a "sleeper" by nature (always the first kid at the slumber party to fall asleep lol😅). I am greatly affected if I am lacking in sleep and it is one thing I have always prioritized in my adult life. Even when other healthy habits have slipped and went off track for a time, I think having my sleep health is a tremendous blessing and has helped pick up the slack in other areas!
I value sleep. I have a kitten that may keep me up. I have worries and memories of undone stuff by 10 pm. So now, I have a set time to go to bed. I have to let everything go. And it is early enough that even if the cat wakes up early in the AM, it does not mess up my at least six straight hours of sleep. I aim for seven, but some days, "things" happen!
I do rest about the same times daily. I don’t keep a schedule because I always had to. I use the light of the day to decide what’s happening in my day/night.
I can relate, every since retiring I've become a night owl, I need to follow your example and be in bed by midnight and up between 8 and 8:30, good advice and thank you for sharing. Going to attempt to improve my sleep habits, find myself dozing off on the sofa at 11pm, then I'm wide awake, my mistake.
My phone alarm goes off at 11:30, i finish what o was watching and then get up and fold my couch blanket and tidy up, go to the restroom, after i turn on my alarm clock and my set my tablet on either wind noice or riding the train in the rain noise then settle in for the night.
Hi Dawn! My body must be conditioned to wake up at 7:30 am each morning, including weekends. On day that I can take a nap, if I do the nap thing, then I can't sleep as well at night. I used to set alarms but stopped that about 5 years ago. If I'm active during the day, I will sleep much better.
Go to bed at 2am wake up early 6 or 7 am to go to the bathroom, then back to bed for a few more hours. Night owl and I don’t do mornings, unless absolutely 😃necessary!
I try to be in bed by 9:30 or so and sleep by 10 or 10:30. I have my alarm set for 4:50 AM so I can work by 5. Sometimes I am pressing that snooze more often than other times. I have 1-hr leeway with when I can start so sometimes it’s 6 or even 6:30. I work from home.
Being recently retired, I’m just trying to find my grove. Right now, my sleep hours seem to be 11:00-7:00. Each morning, no matter what the weather, I’m trying to go outside immediately upon waking and just sitting outside with the daylight for about 15/20 mins in the garden (or covered patio if raining) with a coffee, or water and a blanket. It’s hard to do sometimes when it’s cold or raining but I love listening to the sounds, especially the crows and birds or even the rain. The time change has made this even better.
I go to bed at 9 pm. and get up about 3:30 am during the week. I can barely stay up past 9 on the weekends. I like having a quiet time in the morning. I have more energy in the morning.
I get up at 3:30 - 4:00 am every day to get my husband off to work this has reined havic on my time schedule becauuse of pseudo insomnia... but a reasonable and structured sleep is so much better for you ❤ in time management and oveall health and mental clarity 😊 it is good practice to weight as well 😊
I am a terrible sleeper. I ahve an alarm for 6 am but am often up way before that. Because of that I doze off way too early. I am trying to train myself to stay up until 10 pm and cotinue to get up at 6 am.
I'm 44. I've been disabled for almost 10 years. I had to force myself to become a morning person due to doctor visits ect...I've also learned to enjoy breakfast foods which I never really did in the past. Going to bed early and waking up early gives me a lot less anxiety. Plus I try to get the earliest doctor appointments to free up the rest of my day.
I'm almost 60 and still working 55-60 hr a week. My alarm is set for 3:30 am but I'm always awake before that. I try to be asleep by 8:00 pm. I keep the same scbedule on weekends.
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom I get started on cooking for the week ahead by 4:00 am on Saturdays. You've kept me company during many weekend cooking marathons. I'm sure my neighbors who's making chili or baking a chicken in the middle of the night. Lol Gotta live apartment living. 😬
I start to fall asleep at my pc about 12-1 am I crawl into bed and get up around 8.30 each morning.. I was like you a night owl and 3 am I would be wide awake... the pandemic taught me to get to sleep earlier
I’m in bed at 10 and my body wakes me up anywhere from 6-7:30 am. And the more active I am during the day, the better I sleep at night. 😊 Routine is important. I think for retirees as well. My dad is a retired Dr. He loves with us and he’s 90 years old (91 this June). He sets his alarm at 8 am and does some morning stretches and then makes breakfast. Usually oats and a cup of coffee. He loves routine. It’s what he was used to. But back in the day he would be up at 5 am. 😮
Love your videos. Although I'm retired (74 yeara old), I NEED routine! I go to bed at 10pm and I'm up by 7am. Quiet time and cafe mocha then begin my day. Yes we go to bed at 10 and wake up around 5:30 or 6.
Sitting down is the kiss of death to motivation for me. I end up reading too much. Move, move, move - that is what I keep telling myself. I am a work in progress.
I agree
How in the world can anyone read too much? 😊
Reading is a great use of relaxation time.

Regular bedtime and get up time is wonderful. Your body appreciates it! Plus, it's easier to get up if you do same time every day.
Love this

Wow
Me too. When I was working, I had to get up at 4am to get to work on time. I am retired now and still follow the same schedule.
That was my sleep schedule too when I lived in AZ it was the best Iever felt too

I don't have a schedule per say, but I have found having a routine keeps me accomplishing things.
Love that!
I miss the 70’s too.
I am the same way
Go to bed at 2am wake up early 6 or 7 am to go to the bathroom, then back to bed for a few more hours. Night owl and I don’t do mornings, unless absolutely 😃necessary!
Sounds similar to me
I try to be in bed by 9:30 or so and sleep by 10 or 10:30. I have my alarm set for 4:50 AM so I can work by 5. Sometimes I am pressing that snooze more often than other times. I have 1-hr leeway with when I can start so sometimes it’s 6 or even 6:30. I work from home.
Sounds great
Being recently retired, I’m just trying to find my grove.
That is so smart
I go to bed at 9 pm. and get up about 3:30 am during the week. I can barely stay up past 9 on the weekends. I like having a quiet time in the morning. I have more energy in the morning.
Wow. That is amazing
Wow l have always been 8 .pm. And 7 a.m. since I was 16. I had kids at 20 and I had the same sleep time.. and I nap at one hour daily
I get up at 3:30 - 4:00 am every day to get my husband off to work this has reined havic on my time schedule becauuse of pseudo insomnia... but a reasonable and structured sleep is so much better for you ❤ in time management and oveall health and mental clarity 😊 it is good practice to weight as well 😊
You are a sweet wife
Ty ❤️ my husband is good to me 💖 ☺️ it's the least I can do for him ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I am more ZEN ... go with the flow.
I am a terrible sleeper. I ahve an alarm for 6 am but am often up way before that. Because of that I doze off way too early. I am trying to train myself to stay up until 10 pm and cotinue to get up at 6 am.
Best wishes
Pls make more videos like this
Will do
I'm 44. I've been disabled for almost 10 years. I had to force myself to become a morning person due to doctor visits ect...I've also learned to enjoy breakfast foods which I never really did in the past. Going to bed early and waking up early gives me a lot less anxiety. Plus I try to get the earliest doctor appointments to free up the rest of my day.
wonderful
You sound like a smart & positive person...
I'm almost 60 and still working 55-60 hr a week. My alarm is set for 3:30 am but I'm always awake before that. I try to be asleep by 8:00 pm. I keep the same scbedule on weekends.
You are amazing
@@CentsibleLivingWithMoneyMom I get started on cooking for the week ahead by 4:00 am on Saturdays. You've kept me company during many weekend cooking marathons. I'm sure my neighbors who's making chili or baking a chicken in the middle of the night. Lol Gotta live apartment living. 😬
I start to fall asleep at my pc about 12-1 am I crawl into bed and get up around 8.30 each morning.. I was like you a night owl and 3 am I would be wide awake... the pandemic taught me to get to sleep earlier
Wonderful
I am 56 widow adult children I have routines it helps feel some what normality it's my coping mechanisim
Your are a little night owl. I get up at 4 am three days a week. No choice. Go to bed at 9:30. I shop early early for groceries on some Saturdays.
Wow
Go to bed at 11:00 pm and get up at 10:00 am.
That’s a lot of sleep! 😮
Yes. I have bipolar disorder, and take a lot of meds that obviously make me sleepy. Have A Bless Day 💕
Plz, Girl, lay off the caffeine. See if that will help your sleep schedule.
very valid point
I'm a creature of habit. I use a circadian alarm on my phone.
I do go to bed @ the same I need structure 😊❤😊
I’m in bed at 10 and my body wakes me up anywhere from 6-7:30 am. And the more active I am during the day, the better I sleep at night. 😊
Routine is important. 😮
Fabulous
Maybe start getting ready for bed at ten?lay down, and maybe by midnight, you'll fall asleep
