Nice, small detail however. I believe the Flux is actually at it's MAX when the coil is perpendicular to the field lines. However, this means the CHANGE in magnetic flux (which causes induced voltage) is at it's minimum (or actually close to zero) near that point.
I always liken it to the motion of a swing to my students: when you picked up your maximum speed (at the bottom) of the swing, your speed doesn't change that much. The change in speed is greater when you near the points where your speed is zero (either accelerating or slowing down). Lenz's law says the induced depends on the magnitude of flux change... which happens (counterintuitively) most when you reach zero flux.
Hi Walter, thanks you are entirely correct. I think the model used here is to talk about "cutting lines of flux" which we tend to use at GCSE level. At A Level we would certainly talk about the rate of change of flux linkage being a maximum when the flux linkage is minimum (as you say very much like displacement and velocity in SHM).

Dang one can simply design the rings ( mechanical commutator) right at the source to either get AC or DC. And full phase that is so you are not losing half of that turn. Works for me.

Please explain the term split ring verse slip ring. Why does one need a split ring and the other a slip ring. The rest is perfect?
If you have a split ring then the (for example) left side of the coil is always connected to the left side of the output. So the output pd will always be on the same direction. In a slip ring the same part of the coil is always connected to the same ring, so as it goes 'up' it makes a pd with one sign and as it goes 'down' the direction reverses producing a.c.
@@ATPHYSICS1 I think youre saying the split breaks the connection and passes current to next split ring? So they must be clocked 180 apart. Have to watch this video again. No that can not be right because current only flows one way... What is PD? Not looking at the video as i write, i thought there were two rings shown for the DC Why two rings...why not one that is split?
@@ATPHYSICS1 I remembered it backwards, the two rings are AC, and the DC has one split ring... So are you also saying the split has to be clocked to a certain position, say 90 from the magnets? Also you have the coils spinning in opposite directions from the first dc to second dc illustration. Does it matter which way it spins for - or +?
