I don't typically comment on youtube, but I just wanted to say, this is an outstanding guidline, and more importantly, motivator for your viewers! I used to draw and paint all the time when I was in highschool and college, a decade ago, and I let my harsh 20s get in the way of doing things that I enjoyed and had built up a skillset for. Getting back into it, I'm sure I'll be nowhere near as good as I was, but it's always important to have a reminder that with practice, you WILL improve, even if it feels like your skills aren't going anywhere. Keep up the great work! I'll definitely subscribe to see more improvement and insight. As an aside, what equipment and software do you use? I have a 15 year old wacom intuos and a ton of knowledge in photoshop, but I think it'd be a safe bet that things have improved significantly for digital artists since then!
Thanks! I'm really happy this is motivating and helping! Incredibly my story has some similarities with yours, I used to draw all the time in high school, completely dropped in college and I realized I wanted to pursue it when I was already working for a couple of years. I got back to it, studied and persisted and now this is my job so don't give up! I used to use an intuous until late 2017, I still have it and its a very viable option. Photoshop it's still one of the main software and considered a standard in the industry so you can literally restart pretty much where you left. Currently I switched to an iPad pro with Procreate but I still have a Cintiq and Photoshop when required by some clients. If you were to buy some equippment please feel free to ask for advice I'm always happy to help.
Very excellent video, as always :) When I started learning perspective, I also considered it on literally everything EXCEPT characters - seems to be a common theme :D
Nice video Arianna. I really liked the tips about the action lines and the perspective. It is something that my art is missing most of the times and I really need to practice this! :D
I love all your tips.I really appreciate your tip about colour palette. I always feel intimidated to pick colours but I’m slowly starting to understand how to use colour values, contrast, saturation, sunlight, shadows, and bounce light. Im looking forward to trying out these techniques. Thanks for making these videos 🥰 I can’t wait to learn more 🥰
@@Ariabba Please don't worry about the small stuff, accent are annoying to some I agree, but while more important is the knowledge and the driven nature of your voice that counts while imparting your views. Big thumbs up to you, contrary to you I am too stiff to even try voicing up any video.
I recently found out about a great website for gesture drawing Line-of-action You can pick between humans/animals/expressions/environment And then pick a time such as 30 seconds.. And it will flash up images matching your search result so you can really quickly move from drawing to drawing.
Amazing, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge...for free! Your work is stunning and your ability to articulate your advice is amazing. Thank you.
Great video! I’m not sure I understand what you mean about color theory, but I really want to improve my perspective and gesture drawing. Everything I draw is so stiff and I hate it!
Thanks! In art, color theory is a body of practical guidance to color mixing and the visual effects of a specific color combination. I still think my drawings are really stiff ahaha, I see improvements but that feeling never really goes away 😅 don't worry though, seeing things you want to do better actually helps you improving a lot!
Outstanding, great practical advice, can’t wait to try out these principles
awesome! I'm really glad it helps!
