It’s been a long one, definitely nice to be getting plenty of use out of it now. We have loads of trips planned with it. Our first overseas will be April.
Thanks for the kind words. It has been built over many years and it’s definitely been a passion. There are a couple of small things I would change if I didn’t again, but I’m very please with the outcome. What car do you drive?
Thanks for the kind words. There were a lot of cars there but I have to say you really don’t see many cars like this in the UK. We are however building lots over the coming months.
There a great conversion. I removed a 300tdi from this particular car, but I removed a V8 from my old car and this engine goes just as good and gets a better MPG by far. It also sounds awesome 👌🏽👌🏽
Might be needing some D1 OM606 parts in the future. In Australia though so shipping and price conversion is going to suck me dry. I'll be following this content closely for sure.
Let’s us know when it’s nearer the time. The online shipping calculator on our shop sometimes is a bit pricey. If you email the office with what you want we can get you a better price 👍🏼 Where in Australia do you live? I lived in Clermont North QLD for many years
@@K2DesignAndFabrication Coffs Harbour region, Mid North Coast of NSW. I'll definitely be in touch, I also need to get myself some Portal axles and they don't make them here for older cars.
Thanks for the kind words. What do you mean hitch? We make the receiver on the chassis and then just but the attachments that we want. The work that has been done to the car has been done over several intervals with IVA test done at relative stages. One of the beauties of this car it’s started life as a utility vehicle built by special vehicles. The DVLA are a minefield to deal with. Ring them twice on the same day and you will get 4 different answers. The easier way and if I did it again would be to do this would with a 130 chassis.
@@K2DesignAndFabrication I meant the tow hitch. Seen this system as standard in the US, which I find much better than the standard Euro ball style. Allows for all kind of attachments
With that type of weight you’re definitely getting up there. We put one in a 3.7 ton ambulance, add a person and some gear and that would have been at 4 ton. However another 500kg is a lot of weight. I can tell the difference when I’m loaded properly with a mate in the car but it still pulls like hell. I’ve seen them in plenty of American pickups. What type of 4.5t 4x4 is it going in? That is a seriously heavy car. I worked as a mechanic for many years and the heaviest 4x4 we had was just under 4 ton.
4:10 would eben work better IF the was forced to go through the fans, instead of partly around. Because: the fans pull way more air through than going by natural pressure. The more amount of air through the radiator, the cooler.
I really appreciate the comment and input, do you work building radiators? I know what you are referring to however there are more factors in place that we have been trying to overcome. This radiator is so big the temps are perfect the fans rarely kick in. Also with cars we have built in the past the radiator gets blocked easy with muddy water which leads to overheating. With this setup the water can pass easier so it doesn’t block nowhere near as bad. Also the fans have a very large CFM so when they kick in we are pulling some serious are it cools down very quickly. One fan is on a thermo switch and the other is on a manual toggle so we can activate it when we like.
Excellent build

@@K2DesignAndFabricationAm I correct in thinking I saw it unfinished at a Landrover show just after Covid?
I love your truck, it looks like a high quality bit of kit👍🏻

Great build, one of the best I saw at this years overland show 👍🏻

I have a om606 in a 5600lbs Jeep FSJ. It runs great. Was an awesome swap. It's hopped up from stock, 100% would do it again.

Is that a chopped disco that awesome
It sure is.
I would love to fit an OM606 into my discovery 1!
There absolutely fantastic 👌🏽 we’re heading the indoor show in February come and have a look.
@ I’m in the USA unfortunately.

Phenomenal job. Few questions: how to get the hitch, I assume is US spec, legalized? How do you get away with a NON Q Plate....... ;-)
Thanks for the kind words.

Could I get a factory spec 130 chassis as a swap from a 90 or 110 registered with DVLA?
I'm seriously thinking about selling my OM606 powered D2 (the MercRover). It's just not getting used enough 😢
I’m using mine daily at the moment as the Mrs van has broken
Then start using it
Been looking that the 606 for many years, how do you think it would go in a 4.5t 4x4?
