Great documentaries and great channel. It's humbling that many of these legends lived through or experienced the horrors of the second world war and adversity and peril at such a young age..
I love Gene Stanlee's impressionable mark on wrestling and I may be wrong there's indelibly a blueprint with flair, the valiants, landel , Austin idol even perfect and Ziggler with his kind of presence and style...

Until now, I only knew of Mr.America when Hulk Hogan took on the moniker, what a fascinating story on the real Mr. America. Despite his adversities in early life, he seems like a down to earth humble guy!

Lol, I actually thought this was gonna be a documentary on Hulk Hogan's "Mr. America" gimmick. I didn't know there was more than 1 Mr. Americas.

Steve went on to bring into the Stanley 'family' an almost 7-footer that took the name 'Bob Stanley' but who wrestled mostly as a single but didn't Steve team with yet another kayfabe brother maybe named 'Mike'? Can find no mention of him but seem to remember him

Bob Stanlee wrestled 4 TV matches for WWF in 1982 as Mighty Joe Thunder. He was so bad in the ring he was laughable. In fact while doing commentary on one of his TV matches Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson busted out laughing at him. Patterson actually said "What the hell is he doing?"

Very interesting. His brother Steve Stanley lived in Columbus late 50s or early 60s. He was into juicing even then. (fruits & vegetable juicing)

Their surname is pronounced zy-gaw-VITCH. In Polish the accent is on the last syllable.

8:00 I love that the kinda-sorta-racist hard head gimmick has always existed in every form of wrestling. Great sound effect...

Gene Stanlee, a very entertaining wrestler and performer.
However a Nature Boy Buddy Roger's imatator..
Saw Buddy Roger's totaly demolish his brother Steve Stanlee at the Mongomery County Fair grounds. Dayton, OHIO June 1962. Buddy was NWA World champion at the time.
THE Simi main event Dr. Big Bill Miller cleaned Johnny Valintines clock.
In the Roger's, Stanlee match Buddy could have ended it with his pile driver which he used at the end, but still put the figure 4 leg lock. On Sreve.
Roger's wrestled as a baby face in Central Ohio: Dayton, Columbus, Springfield, Lima, Mansfield, Zanesville Wheeling & Huntington WV. But didn't change his style much as he was still kinda dirty.

Sean Jackmond I was thinking the same thing brother. It was a raw looking kind of way to work in the ring, hell it's almost the definition of "calling it in the ring". Kowalski took that boot to the chin when charging into the corner on Mr. America and he no sold the shit out of it and started throwing forearms at Mr. America!! Lol.

His parents were so irresponsible. He had to go ask for day old bread to feed the family since they had nothing. Well it's kind of hard to have anything when you produce a damn football team. 15 children is awful.

The wrestling back then looked so disorganized and botchy.
