    Thank you for the video. I would love to see how you mark a position and how you navigate to a position using the watch :)

    #askmark I’m very interested in this as my 1st dive computer. You answered a similar question over a year ago, but regarding this one, would you miss air integration ? Have you had any further thought after a year?

  • @AlexanderLiffers
    @AlexanderLiffers 2 года назад +12

    I think they missed an opportunity by not supporting air integration. The mk2i plus transmitter is seriously pricey to the point that I'd rather invest in a teric or perdix instead that'll last 2 or 3 times as long and is more of a known player in the diving world. This with AI would've tempted me to venture, especially with the added bonus of logging dive entry and exit gps points.

      I personally don't care for air integration. I guess I'm old-school in that regard.

      They created this watch for a lower price point than their higher end air integrated wrist computers. If they started adding in more options, they'll be past that lower price point🤷‍♂️.

    • @Kraigmire
      @Kraigmire Год назад +2

      @@397coney7 Exactly! Not to mention, the AI transmitter itself is super expensive. I am glad they made this low cost option.
      In addition, I am glad it is a "small" screen. If you are going to be using this as a watch and activity tracker as well, you don't want some massive dive-computer-sized sun dial on your wrist!

    I am a surfer, freediver and spearfisherman, I practice these activities for several months a year without interruption.
    I've already had 2 Garmin watches in the past, a Vivoactive and an Instict Solar Surf, but when the G1 came out I truly believed it was the ultimate smartwatch for my activities.
    I was sadly very disappointed! It seems to me that it has some incredible flaws and I don't understand how they haven't been improved or eliminated by their testers/athletes!
    The surf mode is very inaccurate, on a 15/20 waves session it detects a couple of them at most, with completely wrong speeds like 70/80 kmh on some of them.
    So if I decide not to activate the surf mode in my sessions, the smartwatch behaves even worse by activating the apnea mode at every single duckdive or when i fall off the board, putting the gps into operation and consuming battery, so I find myself having to stop and save the apnea session many many times to go back to the watch.
    In the summer I train a lot with open water swimming... terrible! The gps is very inaccurate, in fact, a couple of breaststroke strokes or a pause of seconds are enough to lose the signal and therefore invalidate the training data: total distance, time every 100 meters, etc. (for swimming, training takes place in the Italian province of Imperia, not in Burundi...)
    I was told by Garmin customer service that I should swim with a buoy and attach my watch to it to get the desired accuracy...
    The tide mode, another very useful thing for surfers, records data for only 3 future days and is promptly canceled if the smartphone is not nearby, should I go surfing with the phone?
    I repeat my complete disappointment with this 650 euro watch (Solar version), any athlete trying it would have realized these defects and reported them to improve it, probably they don't do enough tests on their products before putting them on the market.
    I would definitely not recommend it!

    Looks similar to the Instinct. I have been wearing one for over three years at all times except when charging or diving. It has been very dependable and very good on batteries. If I was in need of a new dive computer I would not hesitate. My Geo 2.0 is still serving me well, as well as my Vypor Novo for AI

      Yeah. I got the Instinct Solar and this looks like the slightly heavier waterproof version of it. If I didn't have Shearwater kit already it'd be my everyday wear and backup computer.

    This looks right up my street for diving to replace my old vyper
    One question after initial set up and set gas in nitrox but using as a watch for several weeks will the g1 automatically go into dive mode when i jump in water (like my suunto) or fo i have to go into settings etc
    Cheers

    One thing I do not like about Garmins and I do have one of their fitness watches, is the dim screens. They should have made them so the used can adjust the brightness. They obviously did not offer that option, so they can claim the battery lasts for days. Garmin, please allow the user to choose what is important to them, battery life or brightness.

    I have a question. Can you delete the scuba dive activities from your favourites?
    I really like the watch but I don't use the dive things.
    (I now I should buy the instinct 2 solar, but I have that one and I don't like the looks from it that much. And it doesn't have sapphire..) I will return the instinct and consider to buy the descent G1

    Charging cradle is just weird. One reason I had to pass. This watch seems more powerful than the Instinct 2x solar. Sapphire glass was a great choice 🙄 Instinct 2x should've had it. Looks like Instinct 2x solar needs an update. I think Garmin has something with these line of watches. Nice watch tho and great review.

    One (small) disadvantage, you need internet access to synchronise the data with your phone/tablet. This is almost never possible on a Live-a-board.

    I'm using Descent G1. And had tried it out during my last dive. it's my first dive comp. Need a bit of adjustment. 1 thing that is a con for me is using imperial units (ft) rather than metrics. I live in Malaysia where we use metrics. And every time I looked at my depth I had to convert it in my head. Tried to google and read the manual, can't seem to change it. Changing the setting in Apps only affects runs/cycling/open water swimming (as this is the common sport I use it for) but not diving. Is there a way to change for diving feature? did I miss it in the manual?

    • @roshernraj
      @roshernraj Год назад +1

      You can change it to metrics by going to the watch settings > system > format > units.

    I liked your channel a good amount in the past, but this feels like a clunky review of a watch where you discover it at the same time. Your review seems positive and infatuated, but I'm blown away that you haven't tried it in the water at all, nor have you really done anything more than look at it.
    I know your title says "unboxing", but you did much more than that, this seems like a poor review on a watch that you wouldn't enjoy if you went underwater with it in anything but perfect sunlight in shallow, clear water.
    Please prove me wrong, but even if you do, this still was a poor attempt at a watch review, not an unboxing. It seems misplaced to praise the watch that early with so little coverage.
