The photos you showed from the 5D classic, my jaw literally dropped. The photos you took are simply amazing and the camera just makes you love it more. Nice works👍🏻. Just got mine recently still getting use to the whole setup and feel.
Love that you motivate people to buy a "cheap" pro camera, I owned Nikon D5300, then upgraded to A73, didn't like it, sold it, bought a 5D classic. Loving it.
The bigger pixels of 5D Classic produce better dynamic range and low-light capability. The images look beautiful whatever conditions those are shot under. I use this gem for landscape shots, street/lifestyle photography and occasional indoor portraits. Couldn't be happier.
The 5D (classic) is getting a lot of interest recently. A couple of months ago I purchased this camera as I wanted to experiment with it. It turned out to be my main camera for the last months. I enjoyed the ease of use of the simple menu's, no live view, no video, simple AF system. I bought a wide angle, all purpose, and tele L glass zoom, the nifty 50, 85mm f/1.8 to complement this camera. the results I got are great and made me wonder why I need a more expensive setup for the subjects I shoot. Unfortunately Canon does not service the camera's anymore (Netherlands, Belgium) so when purchasing the camera get a well cared one and test it throughly before purchasing. 2 things to look after ask if the mirror fixings have been reinforced, earlier serial numbers had a screen with a heavy colour cast. You can also consider the 30D with have the same button layout as the 5d but in APS-C format same pixel density so only 8mp and same image processor, same batteries. You can find these for less than 100€. The 5D goes easily up to iso 1600 even the hi setting (3200ISO) is very decent. With the 30D iso performance is similar. We did recently some enlargements of industry photography by night (shot on tripod at 200ISO) and we printed these pictures on ca 45cm x 70cm on a pro grade Epson printer. The results are of gallery quality. In the last years I had the opportunity to use the latest and greatest out there from Nikon, Fujifilm, Olympus, Panasonic, Leica M,...). The 5D is the most rewarding experience (considering the price) I got. I still shoot film on Nikon with old Ai lenses and the Leica M. This experience made me think about the stuff I have and I am considering/did a major cleanup. Keeping: Leica M9 and Leica lenses Leica M6TTL (film) Canon 5D, 30D and Canon lenses Nikon D700 (although I like the better rendering of the 5D, my personal opinion) I can use my old Ai/AF-D lenses on a digital body Nikon F2 & F4 (film) Nikkor AI(s) and AF-D lenses Selling: Mirrorless stuff. Although great in the "honeymoon phase" it is not my thing, I noticed I am more a viewfinder/pentaprism user.
Came to the same conclusion. The sensor in the 5d has a very pleasing look. I got rid of the 6d again but still have my original 5d that I bought in 2007. The X100F is a fantastic camera. I use it a lot for everything in life. It also can be of use for commercial work but it shines as my go to camera for family moments.
Very interesting as I already have L lenses but I am not sure to buy the 6d or the 5d (found one 5d at 250 euros...). How do images compare between 6D and 5D??? Thanks
I regretted that I sold mine back in 2014. However, I bought 1Ds in 2016. 5Dc isn't the first FF Digital camera hits the market. First it was Contax N Digital (2002), 1Ds (2002), Kodak DCS Pro (2002-2004), 1Ds Mark II (2004) then Canon 5D (2005) best known as the cheapest FF Digital cam hits the market. The thing I love the most about 5Dc... strong color, film like grain at high iso and file size! Why did I bought 1Ds over 5D? 5D most likely prone to dust. 1Ds is rugged, weather sealed, dust resistance and quieter shutter mechanism. Another reason, I use vintage lenses, so some of my lenses would hit the mirror on 5D but it doesn't hit the mirror on 1Ds... Cheers!!
I hear the 1Ds takes better images than the 5Dc and you get more autofocus points, but the weight of the 1ds, my goodness is very heavy. I'm looking for a 5Dc today to start shooting with. Plus the 5Dc has a weak AA filter with makes for sharper images.
I have the EOS5, 5DII and 5DIII and I’m definitely looking for a good 5D to fill the gap, I’ve no desire to get the 5DIV though. My 5DII is around 200k clicks, and still going strong. Totally agree about not needing all the new gear.
i have the 5d mk i and the mk iii. they are totally different beasts. the Mark i has a beautiful neutral look that just doesn't happen on any other canon I've used. its definitely worth picking one up i still use the classic the most when it comes to personal stuff
its very true the 5D makes some very pretty colours, it is so easy to edit, well needs little to none, but the colours are gorgeous, I have had mine out lately and yes we do forget how great these older cameras are. thanks for sharing.
5d classic + old version 35mm f2... best great combination you can get for little price. amazing, i suggest that 35mm f2 too.

The 5D is a great camera. I see it regularly for 200 Euros/Dollars or even less, which is crazy for what you get out of it. Add a 50mm f1.8 and you have everything you need.
I like how he talks about his personal life. like his girlfriend's family, his travels and the set of cameras he owns and how he manages to use them interchangebly. I would buy this camera but i'd rather go for the 5d Mark ii or the 6d because i cant get over reviewing images. thanks mate! also i doubt the results of matching a 1K worth canon 50 mm f1.2 would compare to other nifty fifty lenses
Hi Iness, thanks for your feedback! Really nice words you wrote here. The 5D II or 6D are also great alternatives which are newer and offer more features. Both cameras you can buy for about 600 to 700 Euros second hand. I find the Nifty Fifty is very close to the 50mm f1.2 lens. I've owned both and I personally see very little difference between images I took with the f1.8 version compared to the f1.2 version. So I still would shoot the f1.8 all day without missing anything (in my opinion.). Take a look at my channel, you'll find many videos with the 50mm f1.2 and hundreds of videos where I use the 50mm f1.8. Dirksón!
I have a cherry 5dc, 50mm stm, 135f2 and a few cheap zooms. Eosm for video. I had a 100f2 the 135f2 and 105 sigma 2.8 macro(old one) and did comparison shots. That sigma was sharp as hell with great bokah. Sharper than the 135. Colors the same. Kept the 135 for f2 and dof.
I have 2, bought new in 07. The dust is a problem but a clean with a good blower brush shifts most of it.

I still use this camera today and you´re totally right, I have some dust spots on the sensor and haven't cleaned it yet and whenever I have ask in the image I see that - but once it´s clean it is a great camera still to this day.
Very nice video Dirkson. As you said, you started with Canon, and went thru with it. In my case, with Nikon, of which D700 renders output distinctly from latest models. However, getting the 5D is way down cheaper. Truly amazed of the output it shows from raw file, specially my interest drawn on your image img_3902 and 3822! On 3902 image, the roof details of 3902 remained pulling out the shadows from the raw file. The 3822, tonality was just perfect for the scene, not to mention your composition, awesome! Would be so tempting to get 5D myself, but it would be spending another budget. Perhaps later. Thank you for sharing. Have subscribed and liked.
I am tempted, but will I survive without live view and video? I suppose I would, by almost treating it as a film camera, which I have returned to this year. Anyway, very nice video, really nice.
I bought the Nikon d700. It is also pretty good. I am a beginner and can’t help looking at the new and greatest but at the same time I know those cameras won’t produce a better photo for me.
LOVE these images! Question, I see in your spain images that the sky and water have an aqua & teal colour to them (which I find Very appealing!) and after the 12 minute mark of your vid the sky and water are blue - how did you get the aqua sky? Your style is very appealing. Thank-you for sharing!
Really great deal! But clicks can be misleading. It is not possible to read the clicks on a 5d classic. Canon itself can do it maybe. What serial number do you have? Anyway, regardless of the shuttrr count it is a great deal and great to use many people go to the old 5d.
@ I currently own a canon 2000d but have the chance to swap it for a canon 5d mk1 and a 50mm f1.8 mk2 Should I go for it or not ?

Yes, the 5d I and the 50mm f1.8 is a killer combo that will hold up quality wise on a very high level. I still love using the 5d and it has one of the best jpg engines I've experienced so far.
The images are wonderful. The models look happy. The woman has a very natural beauty--rare in the modern era of being a bit too made up (the first cousin in the video). The other cousin also looks great, very sophisticated. I agree with you: the Canon 5D classic is a total winner. You managed some beautiful tones in the images from the church. I'm on my second 5D--this one I'll keep.

I have mine in Spain for 5 years now and always use it when I am there next to other cameras as well. I am thinking about adding one or a 5D II here in Germany just for the fun of it - both models are super cheap, I've seen the 5D for 150 to 250 Euros, which is insane thinking about what beauty that camera can produce.
Hi there! wonderful video.I have just bought canon 5d and looking for a portrait and street photography lens.what would you recommend between 50 1.8 markii or 50mm 1.8 stm especially for this camera?especially for focus speed and colors and sharpness from the lens? And what lens would you recommend for street photography? I will wait for your reply,Thank you very much

50mm f1.8 II and 50mm f1.8 STM are like the same lenses, I have both and don't see any difference, but I would go for the STM version. It is a lovely lens, I also have the 50mm f1.2 L but still use the cheap f1.8 version because it is so good. I don't really need the f1.2 one, but I wanted it so I got it :)
Any of the 5d series work well with some great glass. I have to agree the colors reproduced are great, and it has a certain look. I tell people all the time, sometimes it’s good to keep older gear, or have at least one older camera in your Arsenal. Older cameras have a non-digitized look that people try to recreate today. Why try to recreate when you can just do. Great video and content. 👏👏📸

Still have it, still love it! Next to all the other cameras :)
Great video! I’ve had 10D, 40D, and now the aging 7D mk 1. But have considered the 5D c as it is very cheap these days. How is the autofocus on the 5D, let’s say compared to the 10D and 40D?
The 5D Mark I is an excellent camera - just shot the whole last week with it in Spain. It holds up to today in nearly every aspect. No comparison in my opinion to APSC cameras like the 7D.
The iPhone may have as many megapixels, but the sensor is so microscopically small, there is no comparison. Smartphone photos look like CRAP! (Unless you're only viewing them on your smartphone.)
This is overall very, very wrong and ill-informed. Although smartphones will never match a DSLR in terms of image quality, there are recent videos of pros trying to guess correctly from 2 photographs which ones were shot on smartphones and DSLRs (the same photo). Suffice to say they were wrong 90% of the time, and couldn't tell the difference. Now whereas you might not want to shoot weddings with a smartphone, image quality is still good enough for original size prints in my opinion.
@@mikepawlikguitarwho are ‘they’? Sensor size is science. Some random people with unknown eyesight quality and opinion trumps that does it? Bizarre comment stating something is wrong.
Well, important is the lens. After that the camera body. What do you think about the yongnuo 1,4 50 mm. Have you ever tried it or have you a particular lens from yongnuo? Any expierience?
I stick to Canon. I have a Tamron 24-70 f2.8 IS that was a disappointment and a Sigma 35mm f1.4 ART lens that also misfocuses very often. I would not go for a Yongnuo lens, Would take the 50mm f1.4 from Canon (very cheap on the used market) or if you want best quality the Sigma 50mm f1.4 (though it is very heavy). Even the 50mm f1.8 STM lens from Canon is incredible from the quality - I can leave my 50mm f1.2 L at home and shoot with the 50mm f1.8 - nearly no difference in the final image.
thank you fro the effort and the sharing. i bought used a canon 5D from Craigslist with a 50mm/1.8 STM (less than $250 USD!). turns out there is a tiny mark on the sensor ;-( but can only be seen in the sky from f11 to f22. so now i shoot shallow dof and force myself to compose within the sensor's limits. there is something special about these 12mp work horses. have you any opinion about the nikon d700? thumbs up.
The D700 is a beast of a camera. But the 5D color rendering is much better imo. I will say, the worst thing I didn’t like about the 5D was the dynamic range. If you don’t mind taking your time and really nailing your exposure, I promise you, the 5D is an amazing tool to use
It costs around 305 euros without the lens here. I could buy a new nikon d3500 with lens + memory card + bag for the same price. I am beginner. Which one would you pick?

With my 5D the EF 40mm 2.8 is a joy to use :) cheap and crazy sharp stopped down and very 3dimensional files. (paid 150€ with original battery grip in 2019, crazy deal, it has a very small scratch on the sensor but no problem with the pictures)
@ let me know how it performs on your 5dsr , interested in the big 50mp Canon twins ;) not looking at the sheet specs of the net: resolving power, bla bla etc (most people wd say it's no good for a hi res sensor, but I think could very great).. it's a beast from F5.6 to F16 over all the frame very sharp (at least it is with my 5d mk1).
What will you be shooting? I got the 7d mark 2 and I love it very much. The metering on the 7d mark2 is awesome and make sure you get good fast glass to bring out the best with it.
The 7D mark ii is the best choice then. The 7d's 1.6 crop sensor will give you the extra focal reach which will put you closer to your subject in the frame. A 200mm will become a 320mm on a 1.6 crop sensor giving you that extra reach over a full frame camera like the 5D or 6D. A 200mm is just a 200mm on a full frame. More bang for your buck.
5d mark 2 for a better high ISO. The 5d classic for pure image quality. If you use it for portraiture, studio, daylight etc. ISO 200 - 1600 is awesome on the 5d classic. You can work with that for those subjects. For sports, lowlight fast moving objects I would choose something else.
Hello. What are your color settings in the camera? Are you using a neutral color setting? Are you setting the white balance manually, Or are you using Auto White Balance? These are amazing photos, and I just bought a Mk i and I'm trying to get the most out of it.
Hi EpicZeus, I always shoot everything manually. I never use Auto white balance as the colors will be way too cold/blue. All the images are RAW files, so no info about picture style is implemented in the images. I feel that all picture styles are all very similar (only monochrome is very different because its b&w and landscape makes strong colors - the others are all nearly the same). If you want to get the best out of your camera without any editing I recommend you my ebook (it is very cheap) - all images are unedited jpgs using different camera models (also cheap ones) - here I have more info on it: www.dirkson-photography.com/produkt/e-book-master-your-camera-getting-great-images-straight-from-your-camera/
Excellent channel my friend, quick question , I recently watched a video of you photographing random people in public, I was curious do you normally use aperture priority mode or manual? and which metering method do you prefer for getting the best skin portrait exposure
Hi Aeson, I always shoot everything in Manual mode and usually don't work with any metering - I just take a picture, look at it and then adjust the shutter speed if it is too dark or too bright - that's it :)
Do you think it's a good idea to get a 5D Classic with a 50mm 1.8 lens to carry every day? I have a 5D Mark IV and more expensive glass, but a £200 combo is easier to replace than £3000 combo :) I'm mainly thinking of having it as a banger to just...have on me at all times.
The 5D I and the 50mm f1.8 is a great combo. From the look of the image I see only very little difference between my 6DII and 50mm f1.2 L compared to my 5D I with the 50mm f1.8 STM when shooting in Daylight, so it is definitely a great and cheap choice with professional results (if you don't need to print super large).
Thanks for your reply! I found a very good condition 5D for £300. I figured I won't spend any extra on another 50mm lens, I'll just slap my old 50mm F/1.4 USM on it :) Can't wait to have fun with it! It's almost like my 5D Mark IV is too clinical a lot of the time and I'm looking forward to those smaller faster files, especially with mobile workflows. By the way, how did you edit the pics of your girlfriend's cousin by the sea where the skin pops and the water gets a beautiful cyan tone? The overall color scheme becomes very warm and pleasing, I was wondering if you did the toning yourself or used some sort of a preset. Thanks! :)
What accessories would you recommend for using this indoors? Like for newborn portraits?
Hi Dee, for Indoor Newborn Photography you can use continuous lights to light the scene. Or shoot at a large window (which might not always give you light, depending on the time of day). It really is a great camera and fun to use.
I noticed you cut off hands & fingers a lot..here in the states photographers at school say that's a No-No. Is it different over there with the teachings?
Hi Dave, I focus on the emotion, so on the face. That's the core of my fotos, the hands are not so relevant in the style I have. Think about photos of brands for sunglasses. They cut of the whole body and only show the face :)
Hi, i’ m actualy using the Canon EOS 1300D but i want to change it for à canon 5D Classic, because it’s a full frame, sould i do that ? Thanks ;)
Yes :) You can also go for a 5D Mark II or a 6D, they are all relatively cheap and great in image quality (when you get the 5D you can buy an sd to cf adapter for about 11 euros/dollars - they work great with sd cards if you don't have cf cards like me).
Dirksón! Photography thanks ;) I’m just realy intressted by the body, cause my EOS 1300D, sure it’s a 2017 model but sourds realy cheapo. I think i’m gonna be more confortable with a 5d even if thats a 2005 caméra :) Thanks for your answer ;)
Quick question - where you can you buy decent batteries for the old 5D? I have a 5D and the original battery is dead, and the replacement I bought holds charge for about 50 photos, so not really useable!
Might find some on eBay or other used platforms - I don't know if there are still 3rd party manufacturers...
Yeah, I guess that's the best option now... The one I bought was 'new' but had probably been hanging around for the best part of 10 years haha. Thanks for the reply! :)
I already have the 20D and 7D (I). Should I get the 5D (I)?
The 5D is great, but I think you should get a newer camera like the 6D. It is really cheap now 2nd hand and you get great battery life, 20MP, great back LCD, Video, Great Center Autofocus Point, etc. The 5D is great, but for a little bit more you can go with the much newer 6D Mark 1.
These are all RAW files, so no jpg setting will be applied. So it doesn't matter what jpg settings I used. But you see the settings I used in the left upper corner often.
I have 5Dc but my Camera the AF point are not good only the center point is better. I’m using 70-300mm canon . Do you have anything to tell me about AF point on 5Dc
Hi Fahad, I always and only use the center focus point with all my cameras, as that's the best focus point with most cameras. I then recompose before taking the image.
The 5D is a great body, lovely big pixel FF sensor, lovely files. But I’d recommend a D700 over the 5D. Same beautiful big pixel FF sensor but superior AF and MF adoption. You can very nice affordable MF glass for the Nikon. The 5D is imo a pretty poor MF body, unless you get a split prism focus screen. There is a reason why the D700 demands a higher price even today. But I agree the 5D has beautiful files, I sometimes think about rebuying one, but I already more gear than I should have.
My first camera I bought is 600D (t3i) and 50mm 1.8 STM (later 18-135 stm) and i am still shooting with it. Amazing. I don't know, i wanted to upgrade(Damn, this marketing!), to have good low light, 4k, decent autofocus etc, to start shooting professionally and what i did - i bought a A7RIII + 85 1.8 Sony and 35 1.4 AF Samyang. I have 2/10th of my investment so far returned. But i don't know... i don't like every time what i get. www.flickr.com/photos/155863295@N08/sets/72157664261774787/with/26778711537/ , just a few photos, but can you guess which are the canon ones, without looking @ the EXIF? And if someone likes to comment, which one you like more? Great video, i appreciate all the pictures, settings and story you shared. Thank you!
I have a Sony a7iii and like it for some things, but I still shoot much of the time with my old Canon t3i. It's a great camera. I just ordered a 5d too, and I'm really looking forward to shooting with it as well!
i am seeing lots of blown out highlights, dont think so much of girlfriend in sunglasses makes good foto, though who wants video or wifi.
I went through the images again and can't see blown out highlights in the moments it matter. Please tell me which images you mean so I can learn from you. Thanks, Dirksón!
Professional camera??? What you mean??? There is no such a thing as prefessional camera, the professional should be the photographer the gear is the least important on this equation.
Hi Jas Mann, thank you for your feedback. It is always nice to hear some critical voices. Please tell me what you expected when you clicked the video and what I can better for the next one, so that it excites you - thank you and god bless you :)
Dirksón! Photography this subject about the 5D has been done to exhaustion, it’s getting boring now and everyone is just doing the exact same video. Sorry, I don’t mean you’re boring, just this 5D subject.
I got my 5D Classic 3 years ago. Paired it with the 1.8 nifty fifty lens. It still takes amazing 35mm film look photos.
I got one of the 5D classics last year and it really has this special feeling on the photos, not overrealistic as the newer ones.
I love the 5D classic and I love the way it renders skin tones and colors it gives! Btw you have very pleasant voice!
Thank you very much!
Cannot trade it for anything...this camera is amazing
Keeping:
Leica M9 and Leica lenses
Leica M6TTL (film)
Canon 5D, 30D and Canon lenses
Nikon D700 (although I like the better rendering of the 5D, my personal opinion) I can use my old Ai/AF-D lenses on a digital body
Nikon F2 & F4 (film)
Nikkor AI(s) and AF-D lenses
Selling:
Mirrorless stuff. Although great in the "honeymoon phase" it is not my thing, I noticed I am more a viewfinder/pentaprism user.
Hi Eric. Do you practise ETTR (expose to the right) with the Canon 5D classic ? thx
I have a 5d and 6d - the images from the 5d are much, much nicer looking. 6d kills at night, but everything else is better on the old, 12mp 5d.
I also have an X100F, and while I love the form factor, the 5d sensor is my favorite.
6d is beast in low light.. Got some shots made at 26500iso that were usable and not that bad looking.
Thanks
That’s interesting, I’m tossing up between the 5D and the 6D for my first FF.
I love my 5D Mark 1. I had it since it came out and always amazed with its abilities. Canon got it right w/it.
Just got a eos 5d classic deal off my local, amazing jpeg IQ. Out of camera, the color, its just pleasing.
Each one of these are seriously amazing images.
matched with high-end glass - formidable outfit
I got one 3 months ago and I no longer use my Sony a7rii because it's really has the best color ever
wow congrats!
Great review! Thank you for taking the time and share this with us.
I have the EOS5, 5DII and 5DIII and I’m definitely looking for a good 5D to fill the gap, I’ve no desire to get the 5DIV though. My 5DII is around 200k clicks, and still going strong. Totally agree about not needing all the new gear.
Mikhail Campbell 😎
Mikhail Campbell I realise that! I like the idea of being a noob in, its forever a learning curve.
Mikhail Campbell I missed out the word "photography" put it down to my old age.
i have the 5d mk i and the mk iii. they are totally different beasts. the Mark i has a beautiful neutral look that just doesn't happen on any other canon I've used. its definitely worth picking one up i still use the classic the most when it comes to personal stuff
My 5d 600 pics
Mine is 11 years old . Its still working like à charm
its very true the 5D makes some very pretty colours, it is so easy to edit, well needs little to none, but the colours are gorgeous, I have had mine out lately and yes we do forget how great these older cameras are. thanks for sharing.
What color profile?
5d classic + old version 35mm f2... best great combination you can get for little price. amazing, i suggest that 35mm f2 too.
The 5D is a great camera. I see it regularly for 200 Euros/Dollars or even less, which is crazy for what you get out of it. Add a 50mm f1.8 and you have everything you need.
I own 2 5D Classic bodies and 50STM and I get paid from clients :D You dont have to be an expensive gear flexer :-)
Dirksón!
Absolutely true. With any L lens you can get drool-worthy photos - the 135mm F2 - oh boy.
runbei I drool just thinking about how great my life would be if I owned that lens
EOS 5D, EF 100mm 2.8 macro, MAGIC.
I am tempted, but will I survive without live view and video? I suppose I would, by almost treating it as a film camera, which I have returned to this year. Anyway, very nice video, really nice.
5D wth nice lenses... Its great- coming from a long-term nikon user. My advice- you may use older camera, but professional one. :)))
I bought the Nikon d700. It is also pretty good. I am a beginner and can’t help looking at the new and greatest but at the same time I know those cameras won’t produce a better photo for me.
Do you find that you prefer the 5d more than the d700? I've been looking at both of them.
LOVE these images! Question, I see in your spain images that the sky and water have an aqua & teal colour to them (which I find Very appealing!) and after the 12 minute mark of your vid the sky and water are blue - how did you get the aqua sky? Your style is very appealing. Thank-you for sharing!
Your framing is expert.
beautiful images thank you
I found a used 5D M1 with 10k clicks for like 250 bucks. Was an amazing deal!
That's really a great deal! Try to get some batteries to make it complete :)
Really great deal! But clicks can be misleading. It is not possible to read the clicks on a 5d classic. Canon itself can do it maybe. What serial number do you have? Anyway, regardless of the shuttrr count it is a great deal and great to use many people go to the old 5d.
@ I currently own a canon 2000d but have the chance to swap it for a canon 5d mk1 and a 50mm f1.8 mk2
Should I go for it or not ?
Yes, the 5d I and the 50mm f1.8 is a killer combo that will hold up quality wise on a very high level. I still love using the 5d and it has one of the best jpg engines I've experienced so far.
Hi there i was a bit amazed by the quality of the images of the canon 5d, i got a Nikon D3400, should i sell it and buy a 5d?what do you think?
@ thank you for your suggestion,i will buy a stm version, thank you again
Great Video, i buy a 5d classic 6 month ago and i love it !!! do you have Flickr ? greetings from Chile
Hi Cristian, I dont have Flickr, I do most of my work here on youtube - take a look at my channel if you liked the video :)
Ok, i will see your videos, thanks !!
@ hi I wanted to ask you’re opinion on this 5d v’s and newer crop body like the T7 ? Which would you go for ?
Thanks for the video! Can I ask what picture style did you use for your shots?
Make sure the 50mm 1.8 is not a ii. Get the 50mm 1.8 stm. Also the 100 f2 is better than the 85 1.8.
Exactly the information that I needed. Thanks.
12 mp on iPhone is by no means the same as 12.7 mp on a full frame sensor camera with interchangeable lenses.
I loved my old 5d . Just got another in Turkey for $300US Minter! Boom. Thanks for video
@@mikepawlikguitar there is still no comparison in terms of quality
@@mikepawlikguitarwho are ‘they’? Sensor size is science. Some random people with unknown eyesight quality and opinion trumps that does it? Bizarre comment stating something is wrong.
@@kevrosas1 Who knows what I was saying 3 years ago, and quite honestly, who even cares 🤷♂
I’ve shot w the mark 1 for years. Just bought a 5d mark iii for 875
Under 10k acuations
Other than better iso, did you notice a significant improvement on the images?
Got one....love it!
In terms of digital DSLRs, I find it looks the most like film. Loving it
Do you change your picture profiles? or leave them as standard? Great video!
I often use Faithful picture style, but you can use any one - the difference between them all is very small after all.
thank you fro the effort and the sharing. i bought used a canon 5D from Craigslist with a 50mm/1.8 STM (less than $250 USD!). turns out there is a tiny mark on the sensor ;-( but can only be seen in the sky from f11 to f22. so now i shoot shallow dof and force myself to compose within the sensor's limits. there is something special about these 12mp work horses. have you any opinion about the nikon d700? thumbs up.
D700 is probably also great :)
I’m trying to find a cheap one as well but all these 5D videos are making people list the cameras at a higher price! lol
The D700 is a beast of a camera. But the 5D color rendering is much better imo.
I will say, the worst thing I didn’t like about the 5D was the dynamic range. If you don’t mind taking your time and really nailing your exposure, I promise you, the 5D is an amazing tool to use
Great video and fantastic images.

Just got the 40mm f2.8 three days ago :)
I'm going to upgrade from my T1i, should I get this, the 7D mark ii or the 5d mark ii?
5D I, 5D II or 6D
Dirksón! Photography thanks for the quick response :)
What will you be shooting? I got the 7d mark 2 and I love it very much. The metering on the 7d mark2 is awesome and make sure you get good fast glass to bring out the best with it.
Kenji Burtley mostly flying aircraft and birds
The 7D mark ii is the best choice then. The 7d's 1.6 crop sensor will give you the extra focal reach which will put you closer to your subject in the frame. A 200mm will become a 320mm on a 1.6 crop sensor giving you that extra reach over a full frame camera like the 5D or 6D. A 200mm is just a 200mm on a full frame. More bang for your buck.
5D mark 2 or classic? Great video
If you want to get the best out of your camera without any editing I recommend you my ebook (it is very cheap) - all images are unedited jpgs using different camera models (also cheap ones) - here I have more info on it: www.dirkson-photography.com/produkt/e-book-master-your-camera-getting-great-images-straight-from-your-camera/
very impressive video....you got it together
Canon had stopped support for this camera officially, so if something goes wrong, treat it as a shelf piece.
But it's a beast. It's like a 89 corolla, you can't kill it.
Gideon Heydemann That's great because people say this one had distinct colors.
The new shutter for this camera cost ~80 euros, the work depends on the region but if you put everything in it is still worth it.
Dirksón! Photography thank you for the response I truly appreciate it
Do you think it's a good idea to get a 5D Classic with a 50mm 1.8 lens to carry every day? I have a 5D Mark IV and more expensive glass, but a £200 combo is easier to replace than £3000 combo :)
I'm mainly thinking of having it as a banger to just...have on me at all times.
I figured I won't spend any extra on another 50mm lens, I'll just slap my old 50mm F/1.4 USM on it :)
Can't wait to have fun with it!
Dirksón! Photography Thank you for your reply 🙏 Good day 😊
I noticed you cut off hands & fingers a lot..here in the states photographers at school say that's a No-No. Is it different over there with the teachings?
Hi Dave, I focus on the emotion, so on the face. That's the core of my fotos, the hands are not so relevant in the style I have. Think about photos of brands for sunglasses. They cut of the whole body and only show the face :)
Hi,how did you change the colors of the image in lightroom?which panel in lightroom should i be in to try the same thing?sorry i am a beginner
Hi Ace, just look on my channel for Lightroom, you'll find many videos that show you how I do it.
How is the ISO performance? Thanks!
Dirksón! Photography thanks ;)
I’m just realy intressted by the body, cause my EOS 1300D, sure it’s a 2017 model but sourds realy cheapo. I think i’m gonna be more confortable with a 5d even if thats a 2005 caméra :)
Thanks for your answer ;)
Yes, go for it. You will not look back at a crop sensor again.
Ist das Wasser wirklich so grün?
Quick question - where you can you buy decent batteries for the old 5D? I have a 5D and the original battery is dead, and the replacement I bought holds charge for about 50 photos, so not really useable!
Might find some on eBay or other used platforms - I don't know if there are still 3rd party manufacturers...
Yeah, I guess that's the best option now... The one I bought was 'new' but had probably been hanging around for the best part of 10 years haha. Thanks for the reply! :)
Look on ebay, that's where I got both of mine from.
How does the Canon 20D compare to the 5D classic when it comes to image quality?
I don't believe the 20D has a chance against the 5D I.
Thanks for your honesty.
Where can I still buy a NEW 5D Classic?
No new, but used on eBay
Did you shoot those images in raw before editing in LR? Not in jpeg mode?
These are all the RAW files without any editing straight from the Camera (Canon 5D Mark 1)
Are your unedited images straight from the camera RAW files or JPEG?
These are the CR2 files so the RAW files, the jpgs look even better
Hello. Do you practise ETTR (expose to the right) with the Canon 5D classic ? thx
Hi Linus, I don't look at the metering actually, I just look at the back screen to judge the image, so no ETTR :)
whats your profile setting in Lightroom, cause I have a 5d ii and my unedited raw images don't look nearly as good
can you shoot in RAW with this camera?
BarcaFan0110 yes
All the images above are RAW files (unedited). So yes, jpg and RAW are possible :)
what jpeg settings did you use?
These are all RAW files, so no jpg setting will be applied. So it doesn't matter what jpg settings I used. But you see the settings I used in the left upper corner often.
okay. thanks
5d mark1 or 7d or 70d?
5D I if you don't need video, otherwise 5DII or 6D.
are the originals in raw ?
The images are unedited RAW files
The mirror has known to fall off of the 5d
azz aaz . Yes it happened to me in the middle of a wedding I was shooting :(
Plastic Cornflakes I was going to get the 5dc until I heard about this problem
Gideon Heydemann I just ordered the nikon d700 it has similar specs, but it has a lot more technology
Gideon Heydemann really... that is crazy. I got mine for 370. Mkii 5d is around 500+ I think
Not with serial numbers from 2xxxx onwards, they also updated the LCD still a great camera to get
I have 5Dc but my Camera the AF point are not good only the center point is better. I’m using 70-300mm canon .
Do you have anything to tell me about AF point on 5Dc
Hi Fahad, I always and only use the center focus point with all my cameras, as that's the best focus point with most cameras. I then recompose before taking the image.
Dirksón! Photography thank you 🙏
Wow
The 5D is a great body, lovely big pixel FF sensor, lovely files.
But I’d recommend a D700 over the 5D. Same beautiful big pixel FF sensor but superior AF and MF adoption. You can very nice affordable MF glass for the Nikon. The 5D is imo a pretty poor MF body, unless you get a split prism focus screen. There is a reason why the D700 demands a higher price even today. But I agree the 5D has beautiful files, I sometimes think about rebuying one, but I already more gear than I should have.
Apple to apple. D700 direct competitor is 5d mark ii. That’s why the price is higher.
@@kirk0831 D700 is a completely different kind of camera. The 5D2 has a nice sensor, that’s it.
