to be fair, this was her breakthrough film and she just played an attractive lady who causes our main character to cheat on his wife and later on leave him due to his continued, excessive debauchery. That's pretty much it. She exists in the movie so he can further show off his immorality and because he has something to lose (other than this his money + property). She's not much of a character otherwise. But she is hot. So I think we can forgive Chris on this one. Also, her acting was good but not on the same level as DiCaprio and Hill (although that's not her fault, as I said, she's not given too much to work with).
I watched this movie with my mom because she thought it would be great to watch together. Let's just say she regretted that statement before the movie was halfway through.
Brannon Hautanen I'm sick of people talking about opinions. If one opinion never out ways another why bring up your opinion in the first place? By putting up this list, what are you asking for, exactly? For people to look at it, think nothing of it and move on?

A lot of the stuff the main character did in this movie was just so unbelievable but he had the amount of charisma to pull it off. Like i was just thinking the whole time "that's totally illegal" and yet i was like "well wait i mean... It is right?" i totally enjoyed this movie
I would compare the main character in this movie, even the entire movie, to the character of Alex DeLarge in Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece A Clockwork Orange, in that in both of them: 1. The main character is doing so many terrible, corrupt things and enjoying every minute they're doing it, yet they carry a certain amount of charm, charisma and even some degree of likeabilty 2. The plots are somewhat similar as well, in that they both have their main anti-hero doing they corrupt business with some hiccups along the way - until it all came crashing down. I think my favourite Scorsese is probably Hugo, it's a beautiful looking movie that just has this euphoric feel to it and even an element of nostalgia.
@@Justice237 lol Just no. Jorden Belfort is an anti-villain where he's definitely doing illegal stuff but he's not outright hurting anyone entirely and making others rich in a relative harmless way. Alex Delarge is a flatout VILLAIN as all he does is harm people in a sadistic evil way that has nothing to do with anything other than but pure malice. Nobody supports Alex or sides with him AT ALL because he just comes off as mean-spirited, unlike Jorden Belfort whose a jolly guy whose positive to everyone around whose doing illegal stuff with style and likable charisma that makes you WANT to side with him from how likable he is from how he's helping people like his employees through his money. Unlike Alex who doesn't help anyone but destroy everyone around him. Alex has no charm at all as all he has is menace and sinister aura that comes off him nonstop from how he mistreats everyone around, you're just engaged by what he's going to do and that's enough for a compelling character. I really really loved this movie. I would actually say it is almost tied with Goodfellas for Scorceses best film. What a great film. How in the hell did this get snubbed by the Golden Globes for Best Picture? Wow.....
Shutter Island is really underrated. I love Gangs of New York, The Aviator, Cape Fear, Mean Streets, Casino, Taxi Driver, and Goodfellas also. Raging Bull is my favorite.
I just saw this today and it was SO fucking hilarious and ridiculous, I loved it. UR BONED because it got a lot of mixed reviews by the critics. It should be praised in the exact same was as other Scorsese masterpieces like Goodfellas and The Departed, hence misunderstood.
Okay. I have a question here. I'd prefer the answer from someone who loved the movie, like me and most other people. Okay, here goes. So, a lot of critics slammed this movie for glorifying lifestyles, etc. But we all know this movie is awesome aside from our own opinions. We know that most consider this an awesome movie. We know from sites like Imdb(8.2) and youtube reviews from Stuckmann, Jahns or Schmoes. But like I said, most critics slammed it. Do you think Scorsese even knows that this movie is excellent?? Cuz RT has this at only 75% which says that it hasn't received great reviews from most critics. My point is how does he know he made a fantastic movie??? Pretty sure he doesn't log on to Imdb and check ratings.
awesome420ication I would imagine that he just knows whether the movie is good or not after he's finished making the film, and I hope he realised how amazing this film was
This is a really good review, it sums up everything I thought about the movie really well.(: I love this movie. Looove it. It was the type of movie that you could just enjoy, you didn't get distracted by bad acting or bad camera work or editing. It's amazing.
Leo Dicaprio´s career is stunning at this point. Brilliant performance after the other. And always in quality films, nothing else. He must be almost the only one.
Just finished this film from Netflix and I can't stop thinking the acting in this film is great. Very good! The thing is the parties are so extravagant that it almost overtones the amount of great acting in this film. Other that that I had no complaints with this movie.
Hugo! Hugo is one of my favorite dramas ever. It is amazing to look at. It has a phenomenal cast. I love Chloë Grace Moretz, she is my favorite actress of all time. This movie is all around great. After I watched this movie I immediately re-watched it.
i'm still waiting to see a Leo, DeNiro film directed by Scorsese. it's a necessary project giving the three of their talents and history. maybe a supporting actors role for Joe Pesci? that would be epic.
Great review Chris! Really looking forward to it, Scorsese is definitely my favourite director working today. My Top 5 would have to be: 1. Goodfellas 2. The Aviator 3. Taxi Driver 4. Hugo 5. The Departed, although I think this movie might bump The Departed off.
Don't know how I feel about this one. As a movie I really enjoyed it but by the end it left a bad taste in the mouth. I feel like they could have done more to show the effect his actions had on the people who he was ripping off. At times the comedy element seemed to make light of a man that is an absolute monster and is making money by his story being made into a movie.
***** www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/the-wolf-of-wall-street.php It says here that he is paying back *100%* of his money from the book and the movie to the people he had scam. Of course, we don't know how much truth there is to his word. And more importantly, i don't believe he can ever pay those money back.
I've read interviews with the actors and director about why they chose to focus on Belfort and not his victims, and the response they gave was generally along the lines of "when you are being a terrible person you are so caught up in all the fun you're having that you don't take the time to reflect on your terrible actions".
I remember watching this movie with my mom for the first time, she turned it off within thirty minutes. A week after that I watched it in full and it became one of my favorite movies. Though it isn't in my top ten anymore, I truly, truly love it so much.
Thank YOU! Someone else besides myself thinks (and knows) that this is his best film since Goodfellas. No matter what the Academy, Metacritic, RT, or audience members are saying. This film is a MASTERPIECE.
Jonathan Blaze I like your list but IMO id switch The Aviator and The Departed I absolutely loved The Departed, may even put it #1. I respect your opinion though at least you know some great films.
Jonathan Blaze My Top Ten Scorsese flicks 1) Taxi Driver 2) Goodfellas 3) The Wolf Of Wall Street 4) Mean Streets 5) The Departed 6) Casino 7) Aviator 8) Cape Fear 9)Shutter Island 10) Raging Bull And I'm looking forward to his next film 'Silence'.
10. Hugo 9. Mean Streets 8. The Aviator 7. Casino The masterpieces: 6. The Wolf of Wall Street 5. Raging Bull 4. Taxi Driver 3. The Departed 2. Goodfellas 1. Silence
I remamber as I watched this movie and when it started the gross things, the drugs and all the sex were ok and at some points funny for first hour or so, but after that it just became boring. I get it it was there to show what type of life these people live and I think it did a great job in doing that, but I don't think it need to be 3 hours long movie. The thing I liked about this movie is the 3rd act where thing start to go shout. That is the part of the movie I liked the most. I loved seeing how all the things he has done started to backlash and that was what saved the movie for me. Also 3rd act had the best comedy I kind of had a feeling, a lot of humor was gross out humor and that can work if it's done right (there were few of those as well, as stated previously) but it just felt like the people who wrote were like ok lets throw some gross things in here and hope for it to make people laugh. Idk it was a good movie, I like the first act and 3rd act but I think the middle part could have been shorter and the massage would still be as strong.
This is a close second for my favorite Scorsese film, but my favorite is still Taxi Driver. Taxi Driver really puts you in the environment of New York in the 70s and in the environment that is the mind of Travis Bickle.
Anyone else feel like this movie was grossly overrated? And I say this as a fan of Scorcese. Yes, there were some funny scenes, but what should have been the Wall Street equivalent of Goodfellas turned into what felt like a teen movie about coke and hookers. Boiler Room did this story better, in my opinion.
Went into the theater knowing absolutely nothing about this movie and it was hands down the best time I've ever had at the theater BY FAR. and I watched Interstellar in 70mm film IMAX. Fantastic film, was best picture of the year for me but was sadly overlooked by weirdos who get offended while watching a make-believe medium. Great review!
I normally cannot stand to sit through a long movie without getting restless in my seat. This movie kept me entertained from beginning to end & it didn't seem as long as others are complaining about. I thought it was funny & the acting was on point. A++
I hate bankers. I hate Wallstreet schmucks. This movie got me rooting for those assholes and... FUCK this is such a terrific movie I can't describe it. A+++++++ Di Caprio is indeed a FUCKING actor. A have nothing remotely negative I can say about this movie. I think the new standard length for a serious film should be 3 hours at least. Such a satisfying experience. FTW.
after this review this guy has now become my FAVORITE film critic! He could not have described this film better! And what made the review better is when he said The Departed is his favorite Scorsese film....FUCK YES THAT'S HIS BEST FILM! Great going Chris!
Only now did I realise the movie was supposed to be funny. Honestly, I wish I had stopped watching 15 minutes in when I started being bored. Instead I wasted two hours (which I hear is two thirds???) of a fine day watching it. This movie was very much like pornography in that the plot was just a shallow hollow excuse for nudity. However pornography has the redeeming quality of lasting 25 minutes and being watched on one's own. Absolutelly despicable. This movie made me sympathetic to Al'quaida.
Anyone who says "this movie is just pornography is just too simple minded to realize the excessive nudity in the film is just an accurate representation of that guys real life. In fact, the real Jordan Belfort claims his life was even crazier.
My brain is small? You're the one who sees boobs in a movie and decides to just blatantly dismiss it as pornography, because you can't comprehend that the nudity in the movie isn't just there to look good, it shows the way this guy actually lived. Yes, believe it or not, sometimes in real life, people get naked! It doesn't just happen in porno, it happens in real life too! Crazy right?
Well then I suppose I don't get why they would want to make a movie about this guy. It was borring as heck, there was no story. To me it seems like they could have made a movie about just any other guy with the same effect. But they chose this guy... why? Because it's a good excuse to have nudity for 3 hours! Plenty of things happen in real life and we don't make movies about it. And it's not the nudity that bothers me here, it's the fact that there is nothing else. No content. And also the line of men waiting in the office to fuck ugly prostitutes, that was too much. And also the panties tease part, that was really idiotic and had no reason to be there. And... oh, lots of other stuff were really unecessary for the movie, and quite distasteful.
The movie is about how this guy built a billion dollar company both legally and illegally, and his pride, drug addiction, and other aspects led to his downward spiral, and apprehension by the FBI. There's your story right there, its not that hard to find. Saying that the movie is just nudity for 3 hours, and has no content is completely absurd. The nudity is there to show the rich and partying lifestyle he lived in real life. What did you want them to do, remove the nudity? Its actually important to the story, for reasons I've already explained.
Gave my friend the Departed for his Christmas gift. We are playing Shipping out to Boston for orchestra and we watched the music video which features scenes from the Departed. Hope he enjoys it and I cant wait to enjoy the Wolf of Wall Street.
Noah Rubin I honor women too but that doesn't mean you can't like this amazing film. Sorry they didn't twist the true story behind this to make the male figure a knight and the female a princess in waiting...
I watched this with a packed Theater, and was surprised that there was no point to the Movie, or any redeeming parts, also that only 3 people gut up and left
Shutter Island, Aviator, Good Fellas, The Departed, Casino - I can't name just one. There's an amazing interview with DiCaprio, Scorsese, Hill & the screenplay writer on the Hollywood Reporter's YT channel. Check it out - so good.
If this enthusiasm leads to an A, which film was ever 100% perfect to receive an A+? Or A++? Or could another film reach a higher verdict when the tonal rhythm and energy pace is so equally intense from start to finish, that it is forgiven for, for instance, little plot holes?
What I got out of this review: Martin Scorsese is a director and Leonardo Dicaprio is an actor
Was looking for this comment ahahah
the words fantastic and amazing
to be fair, this was her breakthrough film and she just played an attractive lady who causes our main character to cheat on his wife and later on leave him due to his continued, excessive debauchery. I know, I meant more so that I dont understand how anyone could not like it haha
UR BONED because there stupid.
Pretty sure he doesn't log on to Imdb and check ratings.
awesome420ication I would imagine that he just knows whether the movie is good or not after he's finished making the film, and I hope he realised how amazing this film was
awesome420ication Well it got OSCAR nomminations for EVERY major catrgory. Besides who gives a shit about critics.
I saw this with my mum.....................AWKWARD..............
The Departed is my favourite Scorsese film!
The Departed, and Shutter Island
yes yes yes yes yes
im seeing a pattern in these picks...lmao they're my favourites as well plus aviator
This is a really good review, it sums up everything I thought about the movie really well.(: I love this movie. Looove it. It was the type of movie that you could just enjoy, you didn't get distracted by bad acting or bad camera work or editing. It's amazing.
I still think Shutter Island is SO underrated
Police: Did you drive your car last night?
Jordan: Yes but everything was fine.
*sees his completely wrecked car*
Ouuuuuuuuuhhh
Fucking love The Departed. Watch it every month.
same at least every two months
That scene you're thinking about was improvised by Dicaprio btw, they kept on rolling when he fell down the stairs.
Leo Dicaprio´s career is stunning at this point. Brilliant performance after the other. And always in quality films, nothing else. He must be almost the only one.
This movie is an A+
Easy.

Just finished this film from Netflix and I can't stop thinking the acting in this film is great. Very good! The thing is the parties are so extravagant that it almost overtones the amount of great acting in this film. Other that that I had no complaints with this movie.
My favourite Martin Scorsese movie is Raging Bull. Such an amazing
Movie with spectacular performances. Robert de Niro, just wow!
Hugo! Hugo is one of my favorite dramas ever. It is amazing to look at. It has a phenomenal cast. I love Chloë Grace Moretz, she is my favorite actress of all time. This movie is all around great. After I watched this movie I immediately re-watched it.
Cop siting in a New York City subway scene was absolutly brilliant !
Chris, please try to review Spike Jonze's Her before your Top 10 video. It wouldn't seem like a complete list without it.
i'm still waiting to see a Leo, DeNiro film directed by Scorsese. it's a necessary project giving the three of their talents and history. maybe a supporting actors role for Joe Pesci? that would be epic.
@@leomount9037 Leo probably would have been in the Irishman if he wasn't already working with Quentin Tarantino in Once upon a time in Hollywood.
They’re working together next year in Killers Of The Flower Moon.
If you saw Internal Affairs, then you saw The Departed, you will conclude Scorsese is the master of crime films
Awesome Review Chris. This movie was so good. I agree I got a headache because I laughed so much! Martin is a genius.
I so want to see this because I am dying to see this good review I can't wait to see this
Great review Chris! Really looking forward to it, Scorsese is definitely my favourite director working today. My Top 5 would have to be: 1. Goodfellas 2. The Aviator 3. Taxi Driver 4. Hugo 5. The Departed, although I think this movie might bump The Departed off.
Between Goodfellas, Wolf Of Wall St or The Departed
There isn't any comments on this...weird, great review again man, although you need to review Gladiator! Now stuckmaNn!
***** SPOILER: At the end he has to pay back approximately 200m back to clients he ripped off. To this day he hasn't paid it back
***** www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/the-wolf-of-wall-street.php
It says here that he is paying back *100%* of his money from the book and the movie to the people he had scam.
Taxi Driver is amazing
Definitely Taxi Driver. Which is actually probably my favorite movie ever made. Would love to see a review of it some day!
Amazing Film, Best Scorsese movie since 'Goodfellas'. (In my opinion.)
Thank YOU! Someone else besides myself thinks (and knows) that this is his best film since Goodfellas. No matter what the Academy, Metacritic, RT, or audience members are saying. This film is a MASTERPIECE.
Darin Michael Totally agree! Since GoodFellas,
1. The Wolf of Wall Street
2. The Aviator
3. Casino
4. The Departed
Jonathan Blaze I like your list but IMO id switch The Aviator and The Departed I absolutely loved The Departed, may even put it #1. I respect your opinion though at least you know some great films.
Jonathan Blaze My Top Ten Scorsese flicks

3) The Wolf Of Wall Street

As far as Scorsese's, The Departed. But for DiCaprio, It's The Wolf of Wall Street.
My 5 favorite Scorsese films are (haven't seen Wolf of Wall Street yet)
1. Goodfellas
2. The Departed
3. Taxi Driver
4. Raging Bull
5. Cape Fear
Shit, you look at somebody's filmography and see those movies listed together, you know that person has to be a fucking genius.
Anyone else feel like this movie was grossly overrated? And I say this as a fan of Scorcese. Yes, there were some funny scenes, but what should have been the Wall Street equivalent of Goodfellas turned into what felt like a teen movie about coke and hookers. Boiler Room did this story better, in my opinion.
probably. Not me though. Every good movie has people who dislike it(and there's nothing wrong with that). You will probably get your crowd.
one of the best movies EVER, ya'll lack taste imo
No
2013 had good films, but this was the best of the year.
No
Went into the theater knowing absolutely nothing about this movie and it was hands down the best time I've ever had at the theater BY FAR. and I watched Interstellar in 70mm film IMAX. Fantastic film, was best picture of the year for me but was sadly overlooked by weirdos who get offended while watching a make-believe medium. Great review!
Martin Scorsese + Leonardo DiCaprio = Classic
This isn’t a movie. THIS is an experience.
Looking forward to your worst films of the year. I suspect Movie 43 and The Purge is going to be on that list. They're definitely on mine..
Oh The Purge, I was trying hard to forget that movie haha. So bad
Movie 43 is on my best list, hilarious movie
Gonna watch this because it's Jack and Harley Quinn! XD
TheSimcraftFixion ugh...
"Scorcese is a director". "Leonardo is an actor". Very insightful stuff Chris haha. I kid, of course. Great review, can't wait to see the movie!
Goodfellas & The Departed
My favourites are
1. The Wolf of Wall Street
2. The Irishman
3. Goodfellas
4. Taxi Driver
5. Casino
Your brain must be the size of a newt.
I couldn't stand how disgusting this movie was, but I guess that was the purpose
Are you a guy or a bitch
I'm a man, I honor women.
Noah Rubin Yes, that was the purpose.. and the movies accomplished that with perfection.
Noah Rubin I honor women too but that doesn't mean you can't like this amazing film. Sorry they didn't twist the true story behind this to make the male figure a knight and the female a princess in waiting...
Which is why I acknowledged the purpose of the movie.. what point are you trying to make?
1. Shutter Island
2. Goodfellas
3. Taxi Driver
4. Wolf Of Wall Street
Mine was the departed.. Now it I the wolf if Wall Street
Martin Scorsese films:
1.taxi driver
2. Goodfellas
3. Raging bull
4. The departed
5. Casino
I watched this with a packed Theater, and was surprised that there was no point to the Movie, or any redeeming parts, also that only 3 people gut up and left
You are obviously not a fan of Black Comedies.
mrthatguyam Or good movies.
I wish I knew it was a Black Comedy and I would have skipped it
The point is being satisfied with your own life.
mrthatguyam I loved Killer Joe, there's nothing comic about real life monsters.
Shutter Island, Aviator, Good Fellas, The Departed, Casino - I can't name just one. There's an amazing interview with DiCaprio, Scorsese, Hill & the screenplay writer on the Hollywood Reporter's YT channel. Check it out - so good.
Goodfellas without a doubt
If this enthusiasm leads to an A, which film was ever 100% perfect to receive an A+? Or A++? Or could another film reach a higher verdict when the tonal rhythm and energy pace is so equally intense from start to finish, that it is forgiven for, for instance, little plot holes?
