Over 50 years my parents played her records, and today I play her music in my home. It's as if she is still here. What a blessing her voice. All praises to God.
Dad put our one record of Paul Robeson and the other of Mahalia Jackson on every Sunday, morning. We rarely went to church, & this was so much better. Not religious, just truly moving and spiritual.
Many of her recordings on the Apollo label, her voice is deeper and fuller. If you haven't already, check out her songs "I Wonder If I'll Ever Rest" ( ruclips.net/video/C3yQnQIh8ac/видео.html ) and "Poor Pilgrim of Sorrow" ( ruclips.net/video/ROIG_0OAv5E/видео.html )
Voice is ome thing..Heard better ones. Heard better singer. Technicaly. Touching me, unmatched. Why I must keep listening to her when I need it for sd long as I am able. Maybe I will be blessed with going where she sings without ever tiring. As I will never get tired of listening to her.
For mez because I always turn to her music when I want to be brought to tears. When I need it. And know this woman is one of few that does it best with her power, her passion, her voice.
My all time favorite music minister,so many today are just performers. This sister worships from a deep relationship with the Lord UNASHAMED in front of the whole world!!!!
Well stated!!!!! I remember when my Grandmother would sing this song in church. My Grandmother's faith never wavered up until the day she left this earth. I pray that no matter what my faith will be that way, until I die...
Mahalia Jackson spoke the chords that all humanity understood in the spirit of soul. She was a communicator. This has nothing to do with music, entertainment, performance, nor preaching in a religious sense. It's something that one cannot truly understand nor explain, it's a spiritual conversation, the language of the soul. The greatest thing that came out slavery, was the realization that no man can crush your spirit, and that's the good news of gospel music.
I grew up listening to Miss Mahalia---anointed by The True and Living GOD. I can't think of any Gospel singer that even comes close to her in glorifying GOD in song. Amen.
Oh Wow!! Do you remember which year? I know she did a concert in Arkansas in 1970 or 71, but I'm sure she appeared there multiple times during her career.
Awesome upload my friend. This music is wearing me out this Black History Month. Thank you so much for all you do to keep our history in our hearts. ❤️💯❤️
I have been listening to Mahalia Jackson for the last hour and she has blessed my soul. I can go to bed and get a very good night's sleep. She sang I found the answer, I learned to pray in her collection
I don't know the idiot that disliked this song but here are some words of advise- PLEASE do a reality check before u horrify some other person by ur lack of some thing called common sense that all people scratch that most people (emphasizing the word most) have: SHE HAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL EVER VOICE HEARD BY MANKIND AND EVER WILL BE HEARD I ADMIRE HER even though we are not of the same religion and mostly sings gospel but she will memorize most (again emphasis on the word most) people and make them forget where they are and who they are because of that gift from God she carries she is by no doubt my Queen of Singing and may God Have Mercy On Her!
Mahalia Jackson was the greatest!! To listen to her, reminds me of listening to Bessie Smith. As Minters Galloway once said, "If Mahalia sang the blues she would sound like Bessie Smith, and if Bessie sang the gospel she would sound like Mahalia Jackson". Love this post!!
Her annointing is so powerful & pure that it reaches over ovens of time & space! She continues to move and affect people, drawing the holy spirit out of them. Even if they are too blind or too numb to know just what the holy spirit is. Sing In Mahalia! Sing On! 💕
I grew up Baptist. I remember the deacons singing this song it was more upbeat even our organist who played mostly anthems and great hymns would put a beat to this on his great pipe organ.
It depends on when and where you grew up. Mahalia and Rev. C. L. Franklin were from the same generation - she was born in 1911 and he in 1915. So this slower version may have been the way they learned it from their elders which would have included former enslaved people or the children of former slaves and that’s the way those people may have sung it back then.
I was given THE SOVEREIGN TRINITY PRAISE AS THEY WERE BREATHING LIFE INTO THIS BROKEN,PAINFILLIED BODY TO ANOTHER DAY TO WALK THEIR PURPOSE AND THE HOLY GHOST GAVE ME THIS SONG "I'M GONNA TRUST IN THE LORD". ON September 11th, 1011, THE ALMIGHTY SANG IN MY SPIRIT THE SONG. "BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD". BUT HE DIDN'T SING IT THE WAY man does . THE Words were different. """ IN THEE OH LORD I PUT MY TRUST"" Keep looking up OUR REDEEMER' LIVES. I LOVE YOU MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN CHRIST'. 3/19/2017.
Vanessa Walker I needed to hear that in this moment...thank u sister in Christ...I've been looking to the sky all day and I'm not gonna stop cause I know father god hear my cry and he spoke to my spirit and told be, BE STILL...LORD HAVE MERCY...HE'S MY ALPHA AND OMEGA...HAVE A BLESSED DAY SISTER PEACE B WITH U....
Brother - it was the MusikHalle - this very concert hall where I saw my concerts in the 1970[s - as an American kid living in Germany. I saw Albert King, Blood sweat and tears, - a good many other jazz and rock concerts. A beautiful venue that seated 2000 or so. Just pure class. The Germans are a stiff people but they respected Mahilia and gave her all the love they could muster… Thank you for these moments of pure love, truth and hope. Respectfully in the lord, Dan

My grandmother, my mother and now I will be listening to her singing when I need it untill He guides me gently over.
How can you not listen and Love this most heavenly voice !
Her accompanist needs recognition and a movie made of her
She sounded deeper and fuller here than I've ever heard her. Her voice was one of God's great gifts to the world.
