You have a very arranged reloading setup. I have become the scientist Doc from Back to the Future. I need to pick up my room now:) Your video quality is very good.

This camera and computer is working out well so far, Toad. I want the camera operation and video editing to be a smaller part of the whole effort - I'm working on adding a second camera without adding too much complexity.

Really good video on 8 millimeter Mauser. I have reloaded 7 mm Mauser for a couple of buddies hunting rifles. I also have loaded some 8 millimeter Mauser for a friend of mine who is a collector. Some reduced pressure loads for some old Relic rifles. Something that he doesn't shoot a whole lot but likes to every once in awhile put a couple rounds down range. Take care William, and thanks very much for the video. Echo

Thanks, Echo! It's cool that you're helping him enjoy his rifles! 7mm Mauser is one of my favorites, and I *think* it was the first centerfire rifle cartridge that I fired.

The camera angle wasn't bad at all . If the camera can go back a little more for a wider angle it might be a little better though .

From my perspective the video quality is just fine, I like the angle as well, as for worrying about trying to keep the length around the 20 minute mark to me is not an issue, if the video is related to reloading and is accurate I will watch it, there is always another trick or tip to learn or validation of what I am doing already. Haven't reloaded 8mm yet but will be doing some soon for my son so this was a great prelude, belling the case mouths might come in handy, just another die to be added to the collection along with the one you used to pre seat the bullets, appreciate your time.

Good Color, Good Light, Sound etc. I Like the angle, difficult at times, I've tried. Oh, and a pretty well done video overall, enjoyed. Mike

Thanks...it was a challenge to frame it to get the powder measure, scales, and press without changing the shot. I'll keep experimenting with the angles.

It was a challenge to fit everything I wanted to show into the shot, Mark. For videos, I may mount a powder measure up on the shelf, to the right side of the powder trickler. I'm also working on a simple way to switch between two cameras while recording. Thanks for the input, I appreciate your observations.

It's an aluminum "chamber" that I turned on the lathe to help align flat base bullets with the case neck. It's sort of like a LEE Loader or a Wilson Seater, but without a seating stem - it's just for getting the bullet started rather than fully seating it. I've made a couple of them for different cartridges.

question for you, I have a Mauser model k98 and have shot various ww2 vintage rounds as well as more modern Remington core lock rounds and they all easily fit into the box mag well. I recently bought 80 rounds of 'FOM" 8.57mm-7.92 mm produced in Portugal 2008 production years. I measured the Remington rounds and some old ww2 era rounds overall length of case and projectiles seated from factory and I find that these 80 rounds I purchased are all 2 mm longer than my other rounds. Can I trim or grind down the tips so that they will properly fit in mag well? I hope didn't blow 140 bucks on junk. your feedback would be appreciated

I don’t have any experience with Portuguese ammo. I have read that some of the vintage FNM is desirable, and I’ve also read that PPU has been involved in the FNM headstamped ammo in more recent times. I don’t recommend modification of the bullet to make the cartridge fit. I suggest further research to determine what the ammo is and what its appropriate uses are.

@@WilliamCChapin I took complete casing and projectile and used a metal cutting radial arm saw with a jig- vice setup and cut all 80 projectile tips down 2.5mm and then jigged up a belt sander inverted on work bench to add a consistent sanded smooth rounded tips. I selected 10 various rounds and shot them at 200yd with known dope setup and I am happy to say that i grouped 2 sets of 5 rounds each within a 6inch radius. Works for me..

    8mm is actually 7.92 x 57
There is also a 7 x 57 caliber that is very common among hunters as well.
    Great video
    Thanks

you need to seat them a little deeper dont you think adjust your seater die and done

    • @WilliamCChapin
      @WilliamCChapin  7 месяцев назад

The first couple were seated too deep; I used a kinetic puller to back them out - then I reseated them to the length I wanted. Thanks for watching. 🙂
