My take on this is that Billy had time to tell his story to the ghost writer either directly or indirectly (through giving him journals and/or dictated audio notes) because Billy does not really have a rigorous touring or songwriting schedule like he did in the past. There's also evidence that Billy himself is using a shorter double of himself sometimes to perform on stage. So he's had plenty of time, and the material in the book has been compiled over decades. He has wanted to get off his chest for many years before he passes on. It's not like the book was written in 3-6 months or something. First edition was out 9-9-09 (15 years ago) and there have been other editions since.
The evidence is there, the eye colour is different and even their shoe size was different, and people who were close to the band used to refer to Faul. as William. But once you know who or what is behind it all, then it all starts to fit into place, and the deeper you go the darker it gets.

Does anyone actually believe that an unknown look-alike, that nobody ever recognised before, who was a left-handed bass player, master piano player, song writer and vocalist could come in and take over The Beatles? It's time to stop all this. I have worked with a lot of journalists; generally they aren't very bright or creative; and they write a lot of garbage. This was an insider joke that The Beatles cooked up for a laugh. Please don't take it seriously.
I hear you. I am not convinced that Paul died. But from pics I have seen in the early days of Beatlemania, leads me to believe there was, at the very least, a double of Paul. Different shots from the same year he has different ears, different nose and he’s magically several inches taller than John. It indisputable. Maybe Paul had a biological twin, maybe he wore prosthetics and elevator shoes. But early on why would he do that? Maybe that’s where the idea for The Nurk twins came from. To me both John and Paul look way different in 67-70 than they did in 62-66. As a kid I remember thinking that I didn’t recognise who was on the cover of Peppers, Abbey Road etc. Even their voices, speaking & singing, seemed to have changed in the later years. Those are thoughts I had YEARS before I knew about the PID thing. I mean, when you look at Jagger and hear his voice over the years, you know it’s Jagger. When you look at Sinatra and hear his voice….even in his final days…you knew it was Sinatra. But John sounds completely different from 67 onwards. Paul’s doesn’t sound the same either and he somehow learned to become an accomplished pianist. Another thing I am sure of is, they didn’t write their own songs. At least not between 63-67. Mike Williams proves this with his Rubber Soul analysis. They were not good musicians as can be heard in the Cavern Club and Star Club recordings. There are too many holes and “unicorns” in the official story that leads me to believe that at the very least they were a manufacturer boy band.

There is plenty of pre and post 1966 Beatle memorabilia that would have pre and post Paul DNA that could be compared and shut this whole theory down. It hasn't been done because it would shut down all the money made off of the conspiracy theory.

However, even then it took me a few years of studying videos and photos to be sure of this and learn to recognize the differences between the two men. Many people, me included, believe that the original Paul has died. Sage of Quay says he believes this because no one has seen the original Paul after the replacement. Paul is not John Halliday. I have looked at videos of John Halliday. John Halliday does not look much like Paul, other than his ears stick out as did Paul's. Halliday seems to have blue eyes, and I see no resemblance at all. He is also supposed to be younger than Paul. There are photos of Halliday when he was young, and he does not look like Paul.
