It's so true that having a reading challenge goal helps you prioritize reading. I find myself choosing to read over scrolling through my phone or watching TV when I have downtime.
I get so motivated by these types of videos to read these books and have them on my shelf, and then I go on book outlet or amazon and check the price and I'm like "nope."
Mistborn is amazing! I listened to the audiobook for it, and love how the narrator reads it. The magic system is really unique, and the characters are ones you can’t help but love. Kingdom of Ash is probably one of the best in the series. You are going to need to reread Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms, and Tower of Dawn though you have true understanding
I am going to finish my HP reread! I started in November 2019 and I’m currently on prisoner of Azkaban. I was in a bit of a reading slump but I haven’t read HP since the first time I read it when the books were being released. I wondered if I would love it as much as I was so surprised that I enjoy as much as I do. It truly is a timeless story for all ages.
I’ve taken a very long pause (like 2 years) from reading and I am now finally getting back into it. I purchased a couple books to start off 2020 and I’m looking forward to all the books I’ll read!🤗
This was a really good video Hailey (as they always are). I totally know what you mean about reading fantasies and I really want to try reading Harry Potter aswell. Merry (late) Christmas and Happy New year 🥳 xxx
I want to read more self published novels this year. I read one and absolutely loved it, and I feel like I'm missing out on so many good books because they don't get hyped.
My goals this year are to start a book diary and read more often. So at the end of this new decade I can see all those books I read in my dairy and reflect. It will also be a good opportunity to see how I changed from the start till the end and which genres I liked at the start and at the end. I hope I make it💫
Wicked like a wildfire was one of my favorite books 2 years ago. It’s a slow burn but so good. I wish there was an audiobook for it because I need to reread it to read the sequel.
I absolutely cannot wait for the day you publish a book. It’ll be on my TBR immediately no matter what. You’re such a positive influencer and are such a joy to watch! 🤩
One of my resolutions for this year is read more New Adult instead of YA because I am really feeling too old to keep reading about 16-year-olds struggles
So 2019 was a really hard year for me emotionally and mentally so my 2020 goals are to keep working out, be happy, make my own decisions/follow my heart, and read 50 books. I’m hoping that if I stay positive and follow all these goals I’ll hopefully be in a better place by this time next year.
Long time subscriber/Goodreads friend, first time commenter. I felt the same way about A Handmaid's Tale. I finally got through the graphic novel this year and called that a success. Best of luck with your goals.
Mistborn is a fast read and the hype is real! Lol I had the same reservations cuz the book was so big but then I ended up binging the whole series, you should make a reading vlog out of it
You should create a video where you read most or some of these books and do installments of it, like one of these videos each month that way you aren’t overwhelming yourself and your getting time to read these books as well as new releases and other anticipated books in 2020. Love you Haley!!!!
I made a list today in my bullet journal of all the books I already own I haven’t read and there are 63 books on it which legit shocked me so one main goal this year is to try and read some of those, as well as buying less books and buying with more intent - I struggle with book outlet sometimes with everything being so cheap but it legit overwhelms me seeing how many things I have to read so I’m gonna try and work on that
I'm planning on reading Mistborn next year as well! I'm so excited for it! And one of my resolutions is to finish my book and start the querying process. Wish me luck!
i'm gonna start marking dnf's as read on GR too! it's always so frustrating when i make my way through nearly half a book, not like it, drop it, and then have literally no gain from the time i spent reading. good luck with the new year, Hailey, this video as always was super enjoyable
Of all the Booktuber books that have come out/coming out, yours is the one I am the most hopeful for. As for goals, I am doing the Popsugar Reading Challenge: of the 50 books I want to read, I want a majority of them to be books that I own, and the ones that are on my list that I don't own I have to either buy them on sale or get them from the library, save for a few I know I can't get on sale. My husband is hopeful for our bank account's sake. And I want to read more books written by men (14 so far), and more autobiographies (3). As I get through more books, I want to go through the process of unhauling books that I'm not particularly attached to so I can free up space on my shelves.
You should read Furyborn by Claire Legrand! (I see you already have the second one) I know you have been struggling with YA Fantasy recently, and Furyborn is really exceptional. It has two timelines but it is so easy to understand. Even more, one of the female protagonist is a super villain, and you see her go to the dark side. I am in love with it, for real.
OMG I just finished Mistborn and its amazing (I was also iffy about fantasy and sci fi but I literally loved it so much). You should definitely read it!!!
That third book in the remnant chronicles took me 1 day to read it was soooooooo good and I’m a slow reader so that’s saying something I loved it so much!!!!
Regarding Mistborn, I would recommend listening to them as a graphic audiobooks. They are brilliant and made the reading process much easier. Definitely recommend them.
You should do a read-a-long or something for The Handmaid's Tale and the sequel! It's alsoon my tbr for this year. My goal is to get through most of my tbr this year. So I can restock it for next year
Well, I personally think it’s okay to grow out of some reading habits, because I left Fantasy and young adult a couple of years ago after they were my favorite genres for so long. I still read them occasionally but I won’t lie to myself as I enjoy more adult fiction and non-fiction. So I guess you shouldn’t be hard on yourself when you just stop liking something, people do change.
My goodreads goal is 150 books, no rereads, 3 physical books a month, and my goal is also to tackle my shelves too. I have soo many books and it is overwhelming to pick a book lately! But I’m going to buck up and deal with it and start taking on my shelves!
My resolutions are really the same as yours. I plan on reading 100 books, read the ones I own first before I purchase, and go through books that I want to unhaul as I am running out of room. Also, I am planning on reading the standalone books first before series as series tend to take up most of the time. I might read series books during the same as I will have more time.
I loved Uprooted! My resolution is to buy more books from debut/indie authors as I love supporting indie authors (but then I go into Waterstones and I’m like ooh x author has got a new book) and to read more series - as I read a lot of stand-alone books this year 😊
Hating You\Dating You has been fun so far so I hope you end up liking it too! I read the Queens of Renthia and loved the first book! Felt the other two in the series lacked the same edge and kinda wish I hadn’t bothered. Loooooooved Uprooted so much so I hope you get to that one!!
I know you’re not crazy about graphic novels but the graphic novel of The Handmaid’s Tale was really easy to read. It was on my TBR forever, but I finally knocked it off with the graphic novel.
Hailey, for Kingdom of Ash just read a good lengthy series recap. I DID remember what happened and it still helped me to understand, so highly suggest!
for 2020 i've come up with a tbr tackling idea that i'm really happy about! i'm hoping to read around 5 books a month: 1 of which is a book i own and havent read, another of which i am borrowing from someone and haven't yet read, and then finally have 1 book each month from a yearly tbr compiled of books i've had on my goodreads tbr for everrrrr. this plan still leaves 2 books a month for when i'm feeling like a mood reader, so hopefully everything works out and i can have a productive reading year for once xD
Uprooted is such a good book. My main goal is to get better at finishing series. I will read book 1 and really enjoy it but by the time I get book 2, I've already moved on to another series.
I’m so invested in you finishing the Throne of Glass series that I will hands down give you a full series detailed recap up to the last book to make it easier for you lol
Mistborn (and the following two) are among my favourite books! And for some reason I STILL haven’t picked up the fourth in the series, which sounds even better.
My goals are definitely to finish some series I have started, read what I own before buying more ( have over 100 on my tbr shelves) and read atleast 40 books ( really hard to do with two young kids running around being my top priority
You are not the only one that puts off reading sequels. I read Looking Glass Wars in 2014, then took 2-4 years to read Seeing Red, but have not red Archenemy yet.
I really struggled to get through reading the handmaids tale because margaret atwood doesn't use speech marks so it feels like long walls of text which I know you've mentioned before you struggle with in some books - i got around it by listening to the audiobook which was PHENOMENAL and it was such a good way to consume it!
I reread the Throne of Glass series before I read Kingdom of Ash last year, definitely worth it cause I did forget a lot and it reminded me how much I love this series. I also read Beauty of Darkness last year, so good. The Remnant Chronicles became one of my new favorite series. I still need to read the Handmaid's Tale as well, especially cause I want to watch the show on Hulu. If you want, I'd be interested in doing a buddy read for the Handmaid's Tale, maybe that will help you to get around to it this year.
I definitely want to try reading the books I own that I haven’t read. My problem is that I started working at a library so now I check out a bunch of books instead of reading the ones I have.
I starting back up reading like 2.5 years ago and in 2018 I started writing down every book I read, I read 19 which seemed like a lot to me so I said 20 as my goal this year and I'm on number 31 now! So I'm pretty proud of myself, I think I'll say 30 as my goal for 2020 :)
Uprooted is one of my favorite fairy tale retellings. My resolutions, hmmm, I haven't really thought it through yet but.... off the top of my head. 1) I also want to catch up on series that I enjoy. 2) I have a fairly large stack of nonfiction that is half read. I tend to read fiction at night and nonfiction in bits and pieces when the opportunity arises during the days. But if I get caught up in a story, the nonfiction gets shoved aside. So, yes, work on finishing the nonfiction. 3) I'd also like to read more books that I already own instead of mostly library books. The problem is library books are usually more recently published and are new! Shiny! But at one time I felt the same way about the books I put on my shelves, right!? They've become the older child being ignored when the new baby arrive. Sigh. Read from my shelves. And 4) I like to read several more classics each year.
Laughed as soon as I saw Kingdom of Ash. I'm doing exactly that, rereading the ENTIRE series over the last 2 weeks so I can FINALLY read tower of dawn and kingdom of ash with my memory in tact.
The audiobook for The Handmaid’s Tale is great! I loved the narrator and thought it was brilliant (I got the one narrated by Claire Danes, I thinks there are more than one out there)
I have this weird thing where I like crossing things off a list or completing challenges. So I decided to write 20 challenges so I can read a book for each challenge. I love to read but it's been hard to make it a priority with college so I thought if I make it so I am completing a challenge it will encourage me to read more. I want to read more than 20 books but we'll say this is a baseline. And the challenges are not complicated at all and have very loose rules. Like one challenge is "Read a Romance" but that can be any book that is either all about the romance or a heavily featured romantic subplot. Just easy stuff that will get me back on my reading game.
There‘s a page called bookreviewsandrecaps or something along those lines where you can find recaps of all of the throne of glass books! it might take you 20-30min to read through them all but that‘s way less time than it would take to reread the whole series!
Don't feel bad if you don't love Carry On. I read it back in November and was genuinely shocked that I didn't love it. My resolutions for 2020 are small: 1.) Read at least 25 books (I used to do 50 a year, but that's become difficult) 2.) Stop impulse buying books 3.) Read physical and digital books I already own. 4.) Use my local library more often.
I personally didn't like The Testaments but loved The Handmaids Tale. There is now a graphic novel for THT too. Maybe that would encourage you to read the novel by starting with an easy, fast read that will introduce the world in written format. Just an idea, could be a silly one lol.
My resolution is to not set an easily achievable reading goal on Goodreads. I want to set a more ambitious goal next year (I only set it at 15 in 2019) 😅
Mistborn is sooooooo good. Even though it’s the first book in a trilogy, it has a rather satisfying ending, so if you don’t want to continue, you won’t feel bad.
My goal is to read 30 books over the course of the year and read all the books I've been saying "I'll Get to Eventually." I also want to create a semi-regular reading schedule, that includes a bit of reading every day. (But my goal overall this year is to be a more organized person as a whole.)
My goal is to finish important series, like the divergent series, hunger games series, and the scythe series. I also have a ton of books I've owned for a long time that I want to read :)
What I had to do is seperate all my unread books, keep them in a stack in my bedroom bookshelf and keep a notebook with my tbr list and write down a short do I love it or do I hate it blurb and then move it to my read shelves. Its actually helped a lot
Two goals I have (among others): Read the alphabet (author last name only) and read at least one book per month that is part of that national month - April is Poetry Month, so read a poetry book.
Seeing as I do love reading, but haven't read much because of Netflix, Hulu distractions etc I think I want to make a goal to read some books. I have Overdrive downloaded on my phone so we'll see how it goes
My resolutions are to read the books I own and stop buying tons of books to add to my TBR, finish series, and I think I’m setting my goal for 20 books (I read more books than this but it seems nice to just hit an easy goal)
My resolutions are the same: read all the books. 😂
My big goals are to finish all the series I’ve started and expand to different genres other than just YA.
I love YA! Since high school I've expanded my literary tastes to adult romance, adult mystery/thrillers, and fantasy.
Abby Stinar I like fantasy/sci fi books if you want any recommendations

My resolutions for 2020 are small:
1.) Read at least 25 books (I used to do 50 a year, but that's become difficult)
2.) Stop impulse buying books
3.) Read physical and digital books I already own.
Kingdom of Ash is really good. I enjoyed the Last Magician and I'm with you on Mistborn, I'm intimidated to read it because of the hype alone
What I had to do is seperate all my unread books, keep them in a stack in my bedroom bookshelf and keep a notebook with my tbr list and write down a short do I love it or do I hate it blurb and then move it to my read shelves. Its actually helped a lot
Also- I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobooks for Mistborn it helped me get through the series so much faster!
I've seen so many Handmaids tale on people's tbr videos this year y'all should just do a MASS BUDDY READ lol
Thor Wants Another Letter Count me in lol
I think ull love carry on...i read it physically and i flew through it in a week and a half...its soooo much fun❤😊
My resolutions are to read the books I own and stop buying tons of books to add to my TBR, finish series, and I think I’m setting my goal for 20 books (I read more books than this but it seems nice to just hit an easy goal)
