First-Time Blood Donor

Lavorris Tremble stopped by our Battle of the Badges blood drive in DeSoto, Texas on June 21, 2022 and made the decision to donate blood for the very first time. She tells her story of overcoming her fear of needles to help give back to the community.
Lavorris was one of 34 individuals who gave were first-time donors at Battle of the Badges. The drive collected a total of 64 units of lifesaving blood products from generous donors throughout the community.
The drive also helped raise awareness of sickle cell disease. Over 100,000 people in the United States have sickle cell, the majority of whom are of African descent.
While all blood donations can potentially help patients with sickle cell, a close blood type match is essential. These matches are often found in donors of the same race or similar ethnicity.
