Samsung doesn't have America in a chokehold. China just can't afford to sell the phones globally. They are propping up the phone makers with govt money. These phones are not as cheap to make as they are selling them for. I'm not saying the phones aren't better than the fold btw. They clearly have better hardware but the business strategy is to put the competition out of business because no one buys Samsung anymore and then the price goes way up once they have a monopoly on the market.
Korea and USA are friends. Samsung has exclusive Google software features. As far as hardware the Chinese brands are far superior and innovative, it unfortunate that their software is not made for the West.

No one serious who would actually make a lot of good use of a fold would prefer a fold with worse software/support/ecosystem over one that's better in all those areas, only to choose a fold that's barely 1mm thinner (which only really matters on the stat sheet) over a fold that's already thin enough anyways.
