Thank you for brewing this beer without toasting the marshmallows. I've only see other youtubers toast them prior to tossing them in. We needed this video to compare against the others. I've brewed a chocolate stout with toasted marshmallows which was great. But it's good having each different component of this documented on your channel. Nice work!
Thanks so much, yeah I was curious to see how much flavor would come through, turns out not much but maybe just need to use more non toasted? Next time!
@@TheBruSho Between my experience and what I've seen on various brew channels, everybody says toast them and toast A LOT of them. That will give it more of a "camp fire" taste.
This looks tasty, I think like you said toasting the marshmallows and I think if you add vanilla to it could trick the brain and have it come off as marshmallow. better yet do both... I think I want to try this beer.
This is one I’m def gonna try and make. Idea for the show: do a seasonal beer for every season: Autumn, Winter, Summer, and Spring. I think having a series on unique seasonal beers would be awesome. Release one for winter, one for autumn, one for spring, and one for summer. I need ideas! Lol
Looks like you nailed it. I have been working on a similar recipe, but after watching this, I’m changing the plan and going for this. Well done on the recipe creation. I look forward to drinking it
What about adding caramelized honey, like a Bochet Mead? Bochet: A mead where the honey is caramelized or burned separately before adding the water. Yields toffee, caramel, chocolate and toasted marshmallow flavors
I love this type of lager. I have a fav recipe that's a bit higher ABV and a bit more bite but it's a favorite of my friends. Clean, crisp and damn tasty!
I forgot the technical name for it but they have this evaporated powdered milk substance that adds a lot of creaminess. I've seen some other beer channels use it for chocolate styled beers.
Awesome! One of the first recipes I wrote after moving off kits was a S'mores Stout. I had added a tiny hint of smoked malt, plus to enhance the marshmallow I added vanilla extract. I remember it being good but it was literally our fifth beer we brewed so it probably actually sucked. If we ever revisit that idea I like the idea of it being a schwarzbier over a stout
I did a similar beer and the marshmallow did not come thought at all. I did add way too much smoked malt as well. Would like to get that marshmallow flavor to come up more.
I will have to make a Lager S’mores beer some time. I’ve only done S’more Stouts. I have found to get more of the marshmallow flavors the marshmallows need to be toasted. Just out of curiosity why not just use two packs of the dry lager yeast and skip the starter?
Could call this brew Biggie S’mores That’s a nice Schwarzbier, how was the head retention in the end? Can imagine the chocolate and oils may have affected it somewhat?
What would you recommend for substitution for dark chocolate to cocoa nibs? I cook professionally and we've got a TON of cocoa nibs we barely use that I sort of want to use in a chocolate stout/dark beer sometime soon.
Good question. I would start with something like 4oz and if you don’t get enough chocolate flavor your could make a tincture and add at bottling/kegging
We are back! What beer are you most excited to brew this year?
Smoked Melon Sour
Gonna finally try out a decoction mash making a Bohemian pilsner
New to brewing, and new to the channel. I'd like to try my hand at All Grain BIAB and give a Dunkel a shot. Love the channel. Great info! Thank you.
Best brew channel out there. Thanks for the video.
Appreciate that. Thanks for watching
Sounds delicious!! Seems like most of the time if you want to add a particular flavor, mashing with the ingredients is the way to go. Cheers!
I find that to be true. That and late boil additions
Great beer ! I’ve seen there are some marshmallow flavoring from loreann or something like that I might brew one too, cheers 🍻🍻🤙🏼
Oh I didn’t think about that but that’s a good point! Thanks man

Welcome back Trent!
Thanks TA!

Damn, another one added to the must try list. Cheers!
Would love to see your take on it

Haha I hear ya! I tend to brew with the seasons so this is doable!
Looks like you nailed it.

Awesome, let me know how it comes out for you!
That looks yummy Trent. Ya toasting the marshmallows for sure. Undeniable flavor
Next time I’m definitely going to!
been thinking about a fall time beer and this just made the top of my list! cant wait to make this! cheers braj!

Sure! that sounds interesting

Highly underrated style! I can’t get enough
Sounds delicious Trent!! I’m really enjoying my dark lager as well. I see a beer maker too, :) looking forward to the video!
Haha yeah still trying to figure that thing out
That looks really good!
Give it a try!
Great production value sir! Looks like a solid brew
Thank you, cheers!
Another solid video, Trent! Thank you!
Thanks Tom!
To get more out of your marshmallows you can add a touch of vanilla. Also, welcome back. Smore videos please!
Great thinking man!
I forgot the technical name for it but they have this evaporated powdered milk substance that adds a lot of creaminess. I've seen some other beer channels use it for chocolate styled beers.
Maybe your thinking of lactose? Adds sweetness and body. I wanted to keep this crisp but you could totally use it if you want

Hahah you should totally revisit it! Those are some good ideas to enhance the flavor. Thank you!
@@TheBruSho hmm now I'm feeling a Smoked S'mores Schwarzbier. Finally justify buying a full sack of Rauchmalt. Nobody copy this idea, it's top secret!
@@TwoandaHalfPintsHomebrew your secret is safe with me, do it!
This looks delicious!!
Thanks buddy, it is!
@@TheBruSho I'm wondering if the tiny hot chocolate topping marshmallows would work?
@@thechugdude for sure that’s half of what I used and it dissolved much better
Love this idea! Would a little marshmallow flavoring, a la olive nation, be too strong?
It might be worth trying. But go very light to start! Don’t want to over do it
This looks so good! 😍
Thank you! 🍫
Yeessssss another video...love it
Leggooo!
ha i remember that graham cracker brand!
Haha was hoping for that Honey Maid sponsorship

Yeah I think extract may help but always seem to prefer the natural flavorings

I’ll have to give roasting a try next time! Ans I just had one pack otherwise you could totally use multiple packs.
Could call this brew Biggie S’mores
That’s a nice Schwarzbier, how was the head retention in the end? Can imagine the chocolate and oils may have affected it somewhat?
Excellent name! And now four weeks from when I first tapped it the head retention is really strong. I think using the dark stuff made the difference
Tent. Love you videos! Thinking of going BIAB thanks to you. What size kettle are you using for your 5 gallon batches?
I have an 8 gal but I’d recommend 10 if you can find one for a good price
@@TheBruSho thanks allot. Again love the channel
could use a vanilla tincture instead of the marshmallows?
Yeah for sure. Might get better results actually

Overall thoughts on the Diamond lager yeast? Did you have noticeable sulfur during fermentation or in the final beer?
I really enjoyed it, super clean and no sulfur that I could detect. I might like it more than w34/70!
VDK rests don't count unless you do them at exactly 69 degrees
Haha I heard that’s true
Use 4-6 ounces of marshmallow vodka in your secondary. You’re welcome.
