The Hoovers, from Little Miss Sunshine, are the most dysfunctional and funny family ever.

"Well, I'm the savior of the universe. My dad thinks he killed my mom before I was born. She died when I was born and me and my twin were separated and never knew one a other existed. She's a princess. I made out with her once. Oops. Anyway, so, everyone lied to me for all my life and said my dad was dead, mostly because they were gonna train me to kill him. So, long story short, we became mortal enemies. Then he found out who I am, told me everything everyone ever told me was a lie, and tried to convince me to kill everyone in charge of the galaxy with him. Meanwhile, my best friend thinks my sister and I are in love and it makes him angry, but he just doesn't understand. It's okay. I fought my dad, cut off his hand (cuz he cut mine off once), and then he felt bad when his master was trying to kill me and finally said, 'Ya know, Son, you're alright.' And then died just after I saw him for the first time ever."

I just fail to see how that's not the most dysfunctional family ever.
Also, my nephew killed my wife who was a servant for the evil ruler of the Galaxy. My nephew was also killed by my niece after he caused a war, killing his 2-year-old brother.

I don't think I've ever seen such an unsettling movie. It left me with such lingering feelings and an absolutely heart broken feeling. It really shows you how much the frailty of life and the sudden randomness of death can make your biggest problems seem selfish and trivial. Crazy movie if you have the time. Sad to see such a movie with such a message for the appreciation of life unable to bring in any cash.

What's up with the Skywalker Family?
Luke kisses Leia and kinda falls in love with her, till he found out the truth, Darth Vader cuts Luke's arm off, Luke is more or less killing his own father in the end and cuts his arm off and in the end they are best friends again, like the whole middle part didn't happen! Do I really have to say more?
2 in 1!! the Coughlin's and the Slaughter's, from Hal Hartley 1991 movie "Trust". Does are really dysfunctional!

Griswold's should have been #1, Christmas Vacation is one of the funniest films of all time and is the best Christmas film of all time.
You didn't mention "Eulogy". Its not as well known, but it is utterly brilliant, has a great cast, and an utterly dysfunctional family

It wasn't a "Real Family" per-se, but the psychiatrist, his wife and adopted children in "Running With Scissors" would have been a damn good contender for this list. Another amazing movie, and also based on the memoirs of the main start Augusten Burroughs.
