Personally this doesn't do it for me and not because of Arnel's vocals , actually like him singing, no Perry but many are that great ? This has always been my favourite Journey track and if you listen to the live performances on RUclips from 1978 of this them the difference in the two is like night and day , 78's performance is raw , Perry's soaring vocals , Schon at his best ,Rollie smoking the keyboards and the underrated Aynsley Dunbar smashing the heck out of the drums, to me one of the most stunning live performances period .This just seems so tame in comparison with the LA Philamonic.
Of course we recognize Perry is good BUT we the young, next generation fans of Journey could not connect with Steve Perrry like how you older folks (parents or grandparents) do.

Steve perry original version is much better especially on the last note before the bridge..very long highnote one breath tone...Steve has a voice of an angel❤️❤️❤️

Listen to the 1978 PBS soundstage version of this. It blows this version away, despite no orchestra. Perry's voice, hitting incredible high notes that Pineda can only dream of hitting, Gregg Rollie's keyboards and Aynsley Dunbar drums. Schon's guitar playing is way better on the '78 orginal version, too.

Ok i'm just going to come out and say it since every one is too afraid to hurt people's feelings now a days. THIS VERSION OF A GREAT SONG SUCKS!!!!!! Between hearing him butcher this song and Mother, Father: This guy can't sing he sure as hell can't carry a note live even with the help of auto tune. The band mates should have just left their legacy live on with Steve Perry and bow out graciously. Instead they let greed get the better of them and decided to tarnish that legacy they had built so hard to achieve. And don't tell me, "Well they were a band before Steve Perry", I already know this, I also know they had a small following of fans compared to the sold out arenas once Steve Perry came into the mix. Lets be realistic here, if Arnel could sing and was a great addition/replacement for the band, then why are they still singing their classics? Why haven't they produced/recorded any new material since he has been with the band for 10+ years? They did 2 albums with him and they didn't go anywhere, no air time for even the songs that supposedly were their hit songs. They need to stop embarrassing themselves and they need to forget about their Las Vegas residency.
