- Arnel Pineda, Lead VOX of JOURNEY, celebrated his 42nd birthday as they played at the Borgata in Atlantic City Sept. 4 and 5 with a surprise encore: Our "wonder boy" was granted his bday wish to sing his two personal favorite JOURNEY songs as a medley. This was the 1st time that Arnel sang these and likely will be the only times this will ever be sang again.
Neil Schon accompanies him with an acoustic guitar first and then switches to an electric guitar. A very rare and special ending and thank you from Arnel and the J-Boys!

I have always been a fan of Journey and Steve Perry's but I have become an even bigger fan of Arnel Pineda! He has the voice of and angel, a beautiful, humble spirit and his background story is such an inspiriation. I wish people would quit comparing him to SP all the time. He does an excellent job staying true to the "classic" Journey sound but has a quality & tone that is all his own. Let go of the "ghost of Christmas past" and enjoy the new version of Journey. Arnel voice is a gift - to us!
Why can't the Perry lovers move on? This guy has a wonderful voice and I, for one, am glad they found him. Can you imagine if Schon hadn't of found him? What a waste to think he would never of been discovered and we would never of been able to listen to this wonderful voice.
Perfect description of his voice, 'soulful'.

Every body who comments on Arnel videos they either hate him or love him. They comment on how "Arnel is the greatest thing to happen to this band since SP left the band", but they always forget to mention how great Augeri was.

@xodia7: Fair enough... but I am sure you know many passes and clean ups are done when recording at a studio for a music album. For a likely shortly rehearsed one-off chance to sing this song (as a birthday wish granted)... I'd say it is better... esp. if you were there to see/hear it live. Even "unbelievers" were converted that evening.

OK Steve can no longer sing in his youth, but I I like both and Arnel continuous live Steve through the songs and he has the talent to get to sings Steve Perry

Arnel wsn't brought into the group to sound like Steve perry, he was brought in to sing Journey songs with the passion and range that Perry had. ... there's nothing like Steve Perry from 1978 but if I can't have that, I have no problem listening to this!

I like the voice of AP and the total harmony of the band. without the piano playing of Jon Cain, guitars of Neal and Ross and the drums beating of Deen, then there's no Journey.

THIS IS VERY GOOD BECAUSE Arnel is being and always compared to PERRY. Which means, ARNEL can compete SP even at Perrys Prime. Why? Arnel has the soulful Masculine/tenor voice and Perry has the feminine/tenor type of voice. IF THEY DUET TOGETHER? Who will prevails? watch clearly and observe...hehehe definitely it will be arnels strong voice and perry will just be a background. THATS A FACT. we call it timbre in music.

That was Steve's first song that Neal and he wrote together, it was about his desire to be accepted by the fans, letting him live his dream I can't believe that they would sing that, Arnel is a good singer but its Steve's song.

Arnel is OK, but Journey will always be Perry, his voice was beyond great.
I don't know guys he comes awful close to the old Journey . As we say in the south he's cooking with peanut oil on this .
