- The rhubarb seed stalk signals the end of the season to the plant and it will slow production. If you remove it, the plant will keep producing new stalks for you to harvest.
Remove them as soon as you notice them - before they even get to the stage shown in this video.

Mine did this and I thought mine was getting sick. Glad it's normal!
Until you know - that seed stalk looks so bizarre!
What would you recommend on doing with my rhubarb? It was extremely healthy and all of a sudden the leaves started to curl and now a couple are dying, I’m guessing over watering but any tips?
Hmm, sounds like some sort of stress response - too much or too little water? too much or too little sun? insect infestation - maybe aphids? Sufficient nutrients? Hard to say but likely one of those things. If you suspect overwatering, hold off until the top one inch of soil is dry before watering deeply.
Thank you so much! I picked the seed stalk today and thought my all my rhubarb was hollow or bad.
glad to help. Your rhubarb is just doing it's thing!
Hello, one question - is the seed stalk edible? It kind of looks like the other stalks, albeit hollow. Thanks!
No, it’s not recommended for eating. It has higher levels of oxalic acid and other compounds like the leaves which should also be avoided.
@@GettyStewart Thank you!
Sorry if this is dumb question 😂 do you just let the seed stalk grow if you want the seeds for making more rhubarb?
Great question! To get more rhubarb it’s easiest to split the roots and plant that in the spring. It’s not very common to grow rhubarb from seed.
Hello I have a question for you, are rhubarb leaves edible?
No, don’t eat rhubarb leaves.
@GettyStewart okay thank you
