Keylogger or spyware hides in the user’s computer and tracks the keystrokes then report it to their makers.
In order to send your confidential data, the keylogger, spyware, or RAT has to use the internet. So if we get the list of application that is using the internet, we could identify the keylogger. So in this video, we will be using netstat command to catch keyloggers.
netstat stands for network statistics. It is a collection of tools that helps us to know the different network protocols, local & foreign IP address, port number, service, and network status.

Thanks. I was connected to around 450 ips, so I manually looked up each address! None of the IPs came back as "keylogger" or "rat" so I guess I'm safe :)
The so called hacker who keeps calling me and telling me that he knows everything I've typed and is watching me through my webcam is probably just another prank caller who is just good at guessing.
I just realized none of the IPs came back as "virus" either.. I'm virus free too !

You could have picked it up from a link or some XXS .
If he didn't get the file from Microsoft maybe it did come from him but if there was any length of time between the download and finding the key logger it could be anything... please check your logs before you disown your brother

Do you know of a way to detect keyloggers that only periodically send the keylog to their maker? Perhaps the keylogger isn't continually connected, and would evade this method of detection.

Generally keyloggers send information every few seconds to narrow down stroke combinations for the hacker to compute. I would suggest you use a GUI network stat viewer that shows all connections dynamically instead of a command-line netstat command.

That would require them to store the logs somewhere, so you could run a search on your entire hard drive for some text that you know for sure you only typed but never saved in a file (can be a password or something like that). If you find it saved anywhere on your hard drive, you have a keylogger.

The ip addresses on the left are the external connections.
Put the ip into a good iplocator and see who owns it. If you trust them good, if not look how to block ip addresses on your OS

And they found them very fast. And I removed them. One of the best antimalware. Premium cost 29$ and that's not too expensive for year. Maybe. But I like it. Free version for me is enough to remove viruses

you're probably not running command prompt as an administrator and as a local user. To do this, right-click on command prompt and click run as administrator, as shown in the video.

You can go to task manager. Click on services. Click on the PID section. Find the PID number of the keylogger. Right-click on the service and click stop.
