  • In this Muse headband review I share my honest thoughts about whether or not this premium headband is actually worth your hard earned money. It's where tech meets tradition, and while that sounds cool and useful... is it?
I have been lightly practicing meditation on and off for the last couple of years so I wanted to know if something like this is actually useful and worth investing in, because it's not cheap.
After the watching I'd love to know what you think, let's talk about it in the comments below.
If you are interested in picking up one for yourself you can do so here: choosemuse.com... - With this link you get 15% off, so if you do decide to try it be sure to save money if you can.
    Thanks for watching!

To be fair, I am not the target audience for this product. If you are, and were excited about this product when you came to this video then I suggest you do check it out deeper, because if you think it will help you get into mindfulness and make your life better AND you are willing to do the work, it might change your life. It was too much work for me at this moment in my life, but it might be exactly what you need right now.

I agree on your point with the sounds. When they are too loud, it is really distracting and hearing the birds also make me lose focus as well.
But one side note: Do you always wear the muse like you did in the video clips? Because the two sensors on the sides of the band (white strips) are supposed to be behind the ear, not sure if you are aware of that. Sometimes you even wore it the wrong way around (5:40) The lack of sensor connectivity might be the reason for your distorted brain wave measuring.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to feel that way about the birds. When I first heard about it it sounded great but then after using it, like you said it ended up being just kind of distracting.
And good catch about wearing the headband... for actual sessions where I used it and I wasn't recording with my camera I made sure to wear it correctly. The b-roll headshot at the beach has my daughter wearing it upside down like you mentioned... But I'm pretty confident that I had it on properly during actual use. Do you still use yours? Did you try the premium software package or find any extra benefit from that?

Fun video. I also enjoy meditation asisstance, but VERY minimal. Like a few voice prompts total in a 20m session. Background noise can be helpful, but minimal. Your play-by-play of getting frustrated with the gamification is exactly how I would react to this, I think.

I'm with you... it was a fun thing to try but after a couple times it sort of lost it for me. What do you use for meditation assistance, a particular app or?

@@TheSAHDLife I've used a ton of stuff. Buddihfy, headspace back in the day. Now I use Aple FItness + meditation, they're nice since they are generally non-invasive, just gentle prompts at the 10m mark of 20m session. I also use Waking Up, the Sam Harris app, which I bough a lifetime subscription too. Love the app in general. The biggest game changer for me has been Othership, which is a guided breathe program, without overstating it. Othership has been life changing. Like you said, I don't need devices to to practice, but something as a timer and sometimes some background sounds or a prompt is useful.

I like the idea but I also feel like the changing sounds would throw me off. And micro usb is unacceptable in this day especially at that price

Right?! I felt the same way. Interesting concept but unfortunately the price point isn't quite there. If it was $100 it would be a different story, but it's not.

Interesting take, I think it's not for me either, I was curious though :) - how's your meditation practice going?

    • @TheSAHDLife
      @TheSAHDLife  11 часов назад +1

To be honest, I don't have a good practice going. I'm half-ass reading a meditation book by Barry Long which, I actually really like his style, but I've just had NO time to really comprehend the teachings and apply it to my life. I usually listen to Michael Singer podcasts/talks before bed and those help bring some calm and inner peace to help me fall asleep. I have some tools that I often forget through the day when I get stressed... my big stressors, and this is kind of embarrassing, is noise from the neighbours. It brings me panic where it shouldn't... and right now he's building a deck so all day when I'm trying to write/edit it's just bang bang bang lol. I'm working on it. My thoughts tell me it's frustrating we moved to a big beautiful corner house in a quiet retired neighbourhood and the one neighbour we got is the only one who likes to crank the music and work on his house all day.
      How you doing with it?

That thing is too gimmicky for my taste. Many years ago I was taught to visualize my breath flowing in and out, and when a thought came in to just let it flow through rather than try to block it. More recently I learned mindfulness meditation, and the technique is the same when thoughts pop up.

It was fun to play around but I'm with you. When you say you more recently learned about mindfulness, did you read a particular book or watch something/someone? I'm always curious about what other people are learning about. I need something new to read/learn! Sometimes it's hard to find new things on your own.
