  • The thought of a game seven in this year's Stanley Cup final seemed nearly impossible after the Edmonton Oilers lost the first three games of the series.
Now, they're one win away from bringing the cup back to Canada for the first time in 31 years. With so much at stake, it could be one of the greatest games in hockey history.
As Jeff Semple reports, few are feeling the hype as much as former long-time voice of the Oilers, Rod Phillips.

Rod Phillips is a gem. I saw him right after he retired at WEM, he was on the opposite escalator from me, I reached over and he shook my hand. I told him his voice will be missed in the broadcasts. I wish him and his family all the best. Go Oilers!

Edmonton needs to get a national baseball team. I believe we could support another major league team. Go Oilers bring it home

Rod, biased unbiased opinion, is one of the best hockey commentators of the twentieth century. No one says “And he Scores!” Like you.

The only guy I know that wouldn't let a 7 year old meet his Idol because the team was feeling down because of a loss. Rod told my son after he was promised a meet with the team that he didn't want my boy to see all the boys upset ,I told my son he really didn't want us to see so many millionaire crybabies.

I don't know bud. I watched a lot of hockey games on the radio. Because of guys like Rod can paint a picture for you. They you in the game as if you were there. I spent a lot of time driving in the oilfield services sector. Pickup trucks. Mostly off road into the wild. It wasn't always Rod calling but I certainly did enjoy when I was in his airwaves. And some people shouldn't be allowed to call games. No names.
