I'm almost 35, and I have to agree with Frankie; the N64 was insane regarding memories. I don't play it much if at all anymore, but some of my strongest gaming memories come from that era. I play more NES now than I ever did (top-loader). Keep up the great content, dudes; much love from NH!
It was pretty damn amazing at the time. I went straight from SNES to N64 I didn't really see much PS1 games so I went straight from 16-bit 2D to full 3D Super Mario 64 and it was incredible!
I was listening to this while driving the other day and realized how difficult it is to choose a single favorite. I'm the other guy who played Silent Hill: Shattered memories, I bought a Wii way too late just for that game.
I don't think walking simulators were a thing yet, but I would enjoy that game much more if it had been one. The running scenes are just trial and error, and can be extremely tedious.
For me it's sega cd and n64. Those are the consoles I wanted the most growing up. I was obsessed with the idea of cd-rom technology for some reason. I guess it was from playing around on Macintosh computers in the computer lab and media center at school that had interactive encyclopedia software, Amazon Trail, etc. The idea of video footage on a CD blew my mind lol. And yeah, the N64 was the toy to have in 1996. That's the one console I still have from childhood. I even have my original saves on Waverace and Pilotwings. I played Mario 64, Waverace and Pilotwings probably more than any other game as a kid.
I remember the day I got my DS, a purple one. With Warioware and Kirby canvas curse. Me and 2 friends passed it around and it is one of the better days of my life.
I absolutely love silent hill shattered memories. I played it a lot on the Wii. The fact that all you can do is run and hide from the monsters make up a great survival horror experience
For me it is Dreamcast by far. I LOVED it! Shenmue,Skies of Arcadia,Grandia II,Sonic Adventure 1+2 etc.... At one time I had over 50 games for it. I was huge into it when it was discontinued and the games were dirt cheap. Ebgames had Dreamcast systems with hookups and a controller for $14.99! It was insane how cheap DC stuff was.
I’ve have to pick the PS2. Silent Hill 2 & 3, Devil May Cry 1 & 3, Resident Evil 4, Hitman Trilogy, The Suffering Duology, Final Fantasy 10, Wild Arms 3, Jack & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, etc.
Ik its a hard choice for a favorite console like my favorite ones from my childhood are the ps2 the ps1 and the gamecube I would also say the wii but these 3 were my big favorites and my favorite consoles now has got to be the nintendo switch
N64 is my favorite console of all time. Obviously a lot of people hate on the graphics and controller, but even now off and on we will go back and play Mario 64 and Mario Kart balloon battle like crazy! It also has our favorite super smash to 1v1 in. Also so many laughs playing road rash 64 haha
For me the best consoles/golden age, was NES/SNES/N64, but once PC gaming got its act together, around 1997/1998, it was the nail in the coffin for console gaming.
Toss up between SNES and ps1 for me. My mom bought my brother a snes after he broke his shoulder and was gunna be recovering over the summer vacation so many cool memories of mortal kombat weekly visits to blockbuster. I also remember santa giving me my PS1 at an age where I understood that that was financially impossible. Spending 99hrs in both Ff7and8 and so much more. Simpler times
In the office chance you guys read comments on older videos, do either of you have experience with the C64? It was what I had growing up, and when I got an NES, I actually thought it wasn't as good. EJ should definitely check it out, it has some amazing RPGs, and I still play it often. I really love text adventures, which most don't think of as video games, and some people don't consider the C64 as a console even though almost everyone just played games on it.
Frankie here - I don't personally have much experience with C64, but I'd like to. My friend Jon from the other channel was telling me how many modern C64 games are kind of incredible. I will get around to it! Any major recommendations?
@@RedCowArcade Man, so many. For older ones, Wasteland is a great RPG, it's what Fallout is based on. Arkanoid 1 and 2 are my favourite arcade games, I think they're perfect versions of an already great game. Platformers can be hit or miss by nature of there being only one button, but Creatures 1 and 2, Mayhem in Monsterland, Impossible Mission, and Myth are probably most of what I guess people would say are " essential." The modern games really blow me away. Super Bread Box, C64anabalt, Luftrauserz, Portal, You Have to Win the Game, and Sam's Journey can show off the variety of things the platform can do. I'd love an RCE video where Junt plays some C64 with Gloria, they have a natural thing like you and EJ, kind of a natural understanding. I know this comment is long already, but while I have your eyes, since I found you dudes, it's been like fresh air. It's great to watch something by people that are actually just being themselves, not a RUclips version of it. You don't kowtow, you call BS if someone is being a dick in the comments, you're fair minded, and I wish more people behaved with the same level of honesty. Money is tight in my household at the moment, but once my affairs are truly in order, you'll be the reason I make a Patreon account. Enough of my yapping, apart from to ask for a monthly or bi-monthly series where some of you analyse a movie. I'm watching your Rocky 4 video and you talk about things I never would have thought anyone else noticed. It's a misunderstood movie, but you got it, I feel, completely. Also tell EJ to do more Bebop and Rock steady impressions.
My favorite console is the PS3. I was really into video games when I was a kid in the 90s, but didnt really played anything for a lot of years, until the pandemic that I took my brother in law PS3 to help pass the time and fell in love with so many games, like Persona 5, Uncharted, Ni No Kuni and Phanton Pain.
My top three as far as memories and attachment go, game quality isn't consistent 1.) Wii 2.) Gameboy Advanced SP( yes the particular model for me) 3.) PS3
@@RedCowArcade I know the DS had a stronger library, but to me everything from gameboy to 3DS falls under the gameboy category, it's a massive library. Also the Advanced SP was high tech in 2003, having a chargeable device with a built in light screen is quaint now, but it mattered back then. The clamp shell design also made it a bit futuristic back then. I miss when Nintendo made premium electronics, now they make cheap junk.
You can play Shattered Memories on the PS2 and PSP as well it wasn't a Wii exclusive I recommend for new players to try the PS2 version every version of the game has all the same content and relatively similar graphics yes even the PSP version is just as solid despite the lower frame rate
It's always so hard to pick a favorite since it changes day to day for me. For me, I feel that the SNES, DS and PS2 have the strongest library of games. However, the N64 and Wii definitely had the games that I played with my friends the most. Goldeneye, Mario Kart, Wii Sports, Smash Bros, I am shocked that no one listed the Virtual Boy as their favorite though..
I liked Shattered Memories. I even cosplsyed that version of Harry Mason at a convention and noooobody recognized me. To be fair, he might be the plainest protagonist of any major franchise.
SNES or PS1 here. SNES got me into RPGs and things like Mega Man X, Chrono Trigger, Zelda ETC, then PS1 took that torch and RAN as fast as it could withit.
I feel the same way about the N64; doesn't really hold up for me as a whole, but I've haven't been in to a contemporary console before or since the way I was into that c.1997-2001.
I bailed on Nintendo as a company after the amazing N64. Xbox and PlayStation 2 made the GameCube look like a baby toy in my opinion. I would never buy another Nintendo console after I bought the Wii U because their hardware is so out of date. The Wii U was nothing more than a HD version of the Wii with a tablet for a controller. They didn’t enter the HD format until 2012 or something, which is like 6-7 years after Xbox and PlayStation did it. Nintendo doesn’t have any of the great multi platform games and the ones they do have are just watered down versions of what the big boy consoles received. Also, all of the exclusive Nintendo games never seem to go down in price much after their initial release. Which is a huge turn off for me. I remember wanting to buy Super Smash Bros Brawl for Wii about 3 years after it came out. I couldn’t find it for less than $30.
Original PlayStation. I spent tons of time on it. Assuming PC doesn’t count. PS2 I loved more, but the original PlayStation was just a complete trailblazer.
this should be a permanent segment "we discuss what cinemassacre did but better"
This 9 minute conversation was so much more substantive and interesting compared to the entire Cinemassacre podcast episode.
Usually is.
It's because these guys actually hold a subject in mind when talking.
Yeah. Uh huh. Mhm. Uh huh. Yep.
I would seriously enjoy if Red Cow did only Cinnemassacre content.
I know. But that’s not in the cards.
I'm almost 35, and I have to agree with Frankie; the N64 was insane regarding memories. I don't play it much if at all anymore, but some of my strongest gaming memories come from that era. I play more NES now than I ever did (top-loader). Keep up the great content, dudes; much love from NH!
I don't know my favorite console but I'm not sure I'll ever be blown away like I was when I first played Mario 64
It was pretty damn amazing at the time. I went straight from SNES to N64 I didn't really see much PS1 games so I went straight from 16-bit 2D to full 3D Super Mario 64 and it was incredible!
PS2 has the most replayability for me personally.
PS2 and Genesis for me.

I grew up with the genesis. My favorite game was Quackshot. Eventually i got the super NES
I think you mean Super Intendo.
I remember the day I got my DS, a purple one. With Warioware and Kirby canvas curse. Me and 2 friends passed it around and it is one of the better days of my life.
I agree about the DS, so many great RPG's on there also the ps2 had a great library
I don't think I've heard anyone call the PSP a 'PlayStation Portable' since 2005
I was like: Oh so that is why it is called PSP
Glad you mentioned Gamecube at the end. Wind Waker!

N64, X-Box 360, Switch. And yet, mid-90's PC is my true love.
Ik its a hard choice for a favorite console like my favorite ones from my childhood are the ps2 the ps1 and the gamecube I would also say the wii but these 3 were my big favorites and my favorite consoles now has got to be the nintendo switch
It's nice when Jared Leto gets to talk in these.

Super Intendo.
1)PS2
2)PS1
3)Xbox 360
SNES, Genesis, OG Xbox, and Gamecube stick out to me as my favorites.

Totally agree on N64. I played WWF No Mercy for hours and hours. More than any other game I ever played.
The Wii huh.
Lol
My top three as far as memories and attachment go, game quality isn't consistent
1.) Wii

Totally agreed on the SP.

Ej's top 10 wii would be awesome. Or just a new EJ cooks. Im fiending for more ej content.
Super Intendo and regular Intendo
You can play Shattered Memories on the PS2 and PSP as well it wasn't a Wii exclusive I recommend for new players to try the PS2 version every version of the game has all the same content and relatively similar graphics yes even the PSP version is just as solid despite the lower frame rate
Another top ten EJ let’s goooo!

Super Intendo!
GameCube, hands down.
DoS, browser, and arcade.
Top 5....of UM
PS4
PS2
GBA SP
Dreamcast
Xbox
The correct answer is GameCube. The GameCube is the best console. Any other answer is wrong.
Intendo gamecube was amazing, many hours spent on SSBM, metroid prime, and Eternal Darkness
I bailed on Nintendo as a company after the amazing N64. Xbox and PlayStation 2 made the GameCube look like a baby toy in my opinion. SNES and (unpopular opinion) Xbox 360
I think the 360 is a good honorable mention!
360 changed and defined online video gaming to this day. And this is coming from someone who barely owned one years later…
Original PlayStation. I spent tons of time on it. Assuming PC doesn’t count. PS2 I loved more, but the original PlayStation was just a complete trailblazer.
PlayStation
Silent Hill Shattered Memories was complete garbage
Playstation Portable had no games. Lumines? Already played Tetris and we were all getting older get outta here with that arcade puzzle game bs.
N64 is not better than Genesis, sorry. If you could have N64 with all the games or Genesis with all the games; any normal person would pick genesis.
