Thank you, seeing your process with creating a custom closet is very helpful for those of us still thinking about the project. The duck episode was great. I can relate to your reaction; we had a deer leave her newborn fawn in our backyard and it freaked me out all day. I was constantly checking on that baby; didn’t get anything done that day. Apparently it’s normal for a doe to hide her baby (nicely tucked in under a rose bush) for 6-8 hours while they roam for food. That’s what I got done that day-research on deer parenting! Family reunited and all was well.
We have a pool and every spring Mr. and Mrs. Mallard drop by to visit each day. Once it gets warmer they do not come by as often but it is a treat to see them each year
My favorite closet had shirt and pant hanging space. My pants when hung were about 6in from the floor. It made them easily accessible. Then an area for dresses with a bar that was the same height as the higher bar of the double bar area. Because of ceiling height there was one shelf above the top bar. It was nice storage for items I didn't need all the time like luggage.
You should do a glass top on the island in your boutique room, with a tray drawer for storing your bracelets and such. Instead of the glass shelving. Thanks for sharing!
Great video! We had our California Closets install about a month ago and am beyond thrilled with the entire process: from consultation, design, finish options, installation, rep follow up. It went so smoothly and we are LOVING being so organized. Bonus - we actually wear ALL our clothes now because we can see them. Can't wait to see the finished closets; you picked a gorgeous design!
Closet input: Measure how many feet across you have now of long hanging and short hanging to give you an idea of what you'll need. Also all my shelves are moveable, especially shoes to accommodate boots and/or heels. I put off season clothing on upper racks.
We had a leak in the bathroom, which leaked into my walk-in closet. Everything needed to be ripped out due to water damage. It was tiny, and I always wanted to extend it. So, I knocked down the wall, built a new one, and I increased the size by one-third. I put new flooring in over the weekend and now, it is perfect. I love home improvement...especially closets :)

I woke up to a mallard drake and hen in the canal behind my house this morning. I’ve lived here 5 years and have seen all manner of wildlife but never mallards. So wild that we both saw them. (I live in Louisiana)

The closet planning was so fun. I would have looked into having that vanity table/ jewelry storage thing on wheels (with stoppers) so you could move it around at will. I don’t like anything too set in stone when it comes to furniture, i am a crazy person who will move entire rooms around in the middle of the night 😬

Haha I am from Iowa and I used to be a swimmer. When we'd have outdoor morning swim practice, sometimes a duck that nested at the pool grounds would come in the pool with her babies and she'd nip at us. 😂 This duck would be swimming across the pool with all her babies while we're swimming laps and her little babies would try to get over the lane lines and struggled. So silly!

You could have a pouffe style seat (on castors for easy moving) in your boutique room. I have an oversized one and I just love it. Because my closet is literally hard surfaces (as they all are) I had my "bench pouffe" upholstered in a fun plush material on the top and a colour coordinated material everywhere else. Maybe this is a silly question but, how do you reach the high shelves? Are they rotating? Anyhoooooo, the closet is going to be wonderful 😊😊😊 Now I'm looking forward to seeing your balcony ☺ Much love 💗💗💗💗💗
Cosrx pimple patches really work! As soon as you feel a zit coming on, apply a patch overnight. It either disappears or never blooms. And if it does bloom, continue applying a patch and the zit is never as bad as it would have been. This is a “pry it out of my cold dead hands” product for me.
For the boutique room, consider replacing the swing door to a large panel of floor to ceiling sliding doors for the entrance that may also double as doors to the open shelving will give you the flexibility to change your backdrop quickly for filming.

Michele, bring the top hanging rail down and add a shelf above it so you can reach…..,that’s what my closet designer did for me, I’m 4’11”. Also, order a valet rod so you can hang your outfits to look at….
I love that wildlife is just showing up at our homes. My boss told me that yesterday morning a hummingbird somehow got into her home and they let her carry them outside! So cute. How adorable that a duck visited you! Great story.

Be picky!! I recently did my closet and totally underestimated the amount of space I needed for long dresses. Measure out everything! Put all of the long dresses together then measure. And then do this with the shorter dresses too. I totally wish I had done this and now still have to use a guest closet for longer coats and dresses.
Michele even though it might take a couple hours it would make it easier to decide hanging sizes to measure what you have and take out what might hanging that's in drawers or other out on your bed so you get a better idea of what you need. Maybe have a friend help and make it a fun thing. This is what I've mentioned to clients not sure what space they need. Good luck! It will look beautiful 😍

That's funny about the duck. My aunt and uncle had two ducks, a male and a female that came back to their place and their pool every year and they named them. George and Martha. 😂
I recommend separating the sweaters and shoes and sweaters are more seasonal you may want them far right. I'm wondering which area is narrowest and hardest to access? maybe that's where sweaters go?
California Closet is overwhelming. It’s pricey and I couldn’t make a decision! Also, I love using the Angie brush for eyeshadow… perfect size !! Good luck with closet decisions After thought, can you have the bottom drawer in the island be a pull out bench ?

Not long now! : ) Two things to consider, if you like: sliding doors to cover your hanging clothes and curtains or a UV filter over your windows in the closet. I feel like you mentioned a dust problem before. Looking forward to the final organizing video and that huge mirror!

Michele, I think your closet areas will be wonderful! I have said this before, but your patio is my favorite. It seems so nice and tranquil. Your new additions are very nice as well. I kind of chuckled when you found the mallard in your pool. I have quite a bit of property and the deer just treat my property like it is a huge park. They stare me down as if to say, "Lady, get out of our park." I, in turn, stare them down as if to say, "No, this is not a park and is my property, and furthermore, if you eat my mother's crepe myrtles, you are in big trouble." I don't mind them eating my grass, however, when they start on my mother's crepe myrtles, it is time to go. Another great vlog.

So… I am completely off topic, but i am wondering if you use or have ever used Tretonion/retinol and if you like it. ? What brought this to mind was La Mer sun block.
LOL!! Ducks live all over in different climates depending on the breed. They are not aggressive like geese are. Just messy. We had a 4 foot gator in our pool last summer for a few days. He finally realized he didn't like sharing the backyard with humans so he left. For your closet, you simply need two measurements. Measure your existing clothing (on the hanger) in your existing garment groups (jackets, dresses, shirts, tanks etc). You do not need to measure every garment, just the longest or bulk of that grouping. You do not want them touching the bottom. Measure from the bottom of the garment, to the top of the garment pole THEN ADD the additional 4-6+ inches (whatever closet company configures) from the top of pole to the bottom of TOP shelf. This is the height you need for that overall group. You do not want them to touch the bottom. This will give you an idea if the 4 foot sections will work for your clothing. I hope this helps! Plus CC are super easy for them to revise if needed (at extra charge). Been there done that, LOL. What you chose looks really nice!!
*Michele:* It's aways better to *not* hang clothes because it stretches them. The rest can be stored via the Marie Kondo method which saves space and reduces wear on the materials. Coats are the primary things that need hanging.

LOL!! Ducks live all over in different climates depending on the breed. They are not aggressive like geese are. Just messy. We had a 4 foot gator in our pool last summer for a few days. He finally realized he didn't like sharing the backyard with humans so he left. For your closet, you simply need two measurements. Measure your existing clothing (on the hanger) in your existing garment groups (jackets, dresses, shirts, tanks etc). You do not need to measure every garment, just the longest or bulk of that grouping. You do not want them touching the bottom. Measure from the bottom of the garment, to the top of the garment pole THEN ADD the additional 4-6+ inches (whatever closet company configures) from the top of pole to the bottom of TOP shelf. This is the height you need for that overall group. You do not want them to touch the bottom. This will give you an idea if the 4 foot sections will work for your clothing. I hope this helps! Plus CC are super easy for them to revise if needed (at extra charge). Been there done that, LOL. What you chose looks really nice!!

*Michele:* It's aways better to *not* hang clothes because it stretches them. The rest can be stored via the Marie Kondo method which saves space and reduces wear on the materials. Coats are the primary things that need hanging.

Michele, you might need a little bit of full length hanging room for dresses, you do have some long dresses.
