I am 78 and I have this as a house plant and it originally belonged to my great grandmother. Wish I had a family member to pass it on but I don’t. Glad to see a video, even an old one. I just repotted mine and used cactus potting soil. Hope it works. It has new growth.
Yes its in the Asparagus family. Its not a fern what so ever. Like Asparagus.. it hates very rich soil. His soil mix is not the best. I would add some sand/perlite/mini rock shards (pebbles) and some peat moss. also enjoys a deep pot.. no shallow pots. Or the branches will never thicken. he is totally correct on aggressive roots..so flower boxes arent ideal. Big pots yes.. he was breaking up the roots, but he could have divided that plant in two.. which likely would have been better. Misting in the morning is great, but not late afternoon. Not in sunlight.
Thank you for adding some good info so I can give my little guy even better care. I really love these plants and treat them the same as my pets ... lol ...
Omg Omg Omg!!! A few years ago I bought this beautiful feathery plant from a little country greenhouse on a whim and fell in love with it. It had no tag and the lady didn't know it's name. I loved the heck out of it but lost it in a really bad drought when I was out of town. it just never recovered. I was never able to find it again.... till just now!!! WOW THANKS for this video lmao you have no idea how giddy I am!!
@@EnglishEducationLive agreed! It is invasive in my entire front yard, entangles my judge and grows up into my trees. Cut it and it just comes back, covered with spaced out vicious thorns...tore my skin so bad. Please never put outside in the ground. People get this growing through their foundation and roof and it’s very costly and incredibly difficult to control.
Lovely video! My asparagus plumosa has been stuck in between yellow and green foliage for the past few months. Cant seem to figure out how to make them green again, will try repotting and fertalizing!
My plant has yellowed like yours so I wanted to re-pot it but it's already in a very large container. The roots are super packed. Can I just trim them back and keep the pot the same size?
+Plant Viper I don't have this plant anymore.. propagation by division is super easy.... pop it out of he pot... grab a sharp knife and cut the plant down the center... you could possibly cut it in 4 or more if your plant is big.... as long as there are some roots attached it should be fine. Water well... then let it dry down before watering again
perhaps 1/3... they like the soil to stay moist... but the roots store water for the dry periods... if the soil gets too dry the plant will tell you by dropping lots of tiny leaves
***** And did it ever within the week it produced 2 new shoots... the photo in the thumb nail was taken today. the video was shot about a month and a half ago.
Why have both of my plumosa plants stopped growing ? They are neither dying nor growing at all this was after i cliped of some stems from the center and they are both in a 5.25 long and 4.5 wide containers. Is the container not wide enough? Both plants are about 6.5 inches tall
Aaron Turtleboy i will do an update very soon... but i am not planting the dragon fruit in the ground... it is staying an indoor plant in a hanging pot
Glad I found this video. I have one of these plants and it looks awful, I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It only has one healthy leaf and the rest is either brown or an unhealthy bright green. It wasn't being watered too much, and I thought it needed more water but it still hasn't picked up and now I'M not sure whether I'm over watering it. =/ The pot is small but doesn't look like it needs repotting. Would you suggest I do it anyway? Even though it's winter? Also, I'm a bit confused about how much light it needs. I was in a light spot before, and I read that it might need a darker spot. Any suggestions?
They need a bright location... moderate humidity (45%-70%) warm temps. water well and then let the soil dry almost completely before watering again. don't let this plant stay completely dry for too long as they have a habit of dropping tones on tiny leaves.
I think you over watered it. Thats why the leaves are yellow. It has nothing to do with needing repotting , though its a good excuse, its simply not true. I have mine in a similar size, slightly smaller in fact, pot and the plant is very healthy and large, That is way too much water being poured out. Its best, in my experience, to soak the growing medium by pouring water over the growing medium and allowing it to drip through the drainage holes until no more escapes. Then put it back in its holder and allow the pot to almost dry out before watering again. Nice video. Thanks.
Hi I am from India. I have a Plumosa. I kept it indoor with medium to low light. I water it everyday as it's summer time here with low moisture in the air. But I am worried now as my Plumosa is starting to brown rapidly. Please suggest what to do
Its hard to say as your climate is very different than mine... is the soil drying out slightly between waterings? It's not actually a fern and doesn't want to be wet all the time... but ides like to be evenly moist with a slight dry down
the name is so tricky...you know the funny thing here in China is that we call it some kind of bamboo but clearly it does not belong to the bamboo family
+blap200 This isn't actually a fern... this type of plant I water when the soil is dry... then I water well... these have large water storing roots so they like a slight dry period... if they go too dry for too long they will start dropping leaves.
Growing Things frilly of Fluffy?..lol.. it's a very fuzzy one.. I like this plant a lot.. It's one of those plants that I would have a hard time getting rid of. I think they look nicer when they're a smaller plant ... I have seen these at the Botanical gardens where the stems are 8+ feet long and they just look messy.

I honestly hope you find someone to pass it on to. I love plants that have long histories like that!!
Thank you it was quite difficult to find a video for this In English. I like your presentation and general way of being. ahaha
Thanks for the video, it helped me to identify a plant I have here at home for 20 years! :-)
***** Glad i could Help :)
+Olinda Silva same for me! I couldn't figure it out, and finally came upon this video
lol... That's awesome :) it is a fun plant to grow :)

DO NOT POT OUTSIDE! It's insanely invasive and impossible to eradicate.
@@EnglishEducationLive agreed!

*entangles my hedge
The brown fronds aren't from being pot-bound. It's from getting dried out at some point.
Or from too much water. They don't like that either

+Jennifeer Flores Good Luck... since this repotting mine has grown Beautifully. I hope yours does the same.
Very informative video. Your funny nature makes videos more interesting

Hi! Would you consider doing a video on how to propagate from the mother plant?
+Plant Viper I don't have this plant anymore.. propagation by division is super easy.... pop it out of he pot... grab a sharp knife and cut the plant down the center... you could possibly cut it in 4 or more if your plant is big.... as long as there are some roots attached it should be fine. Greetings from Singapore.. Thanks and excellent work..
Thank you :)
I love the look of this fern. Where live it is classed as a weed so you have to keep it contained.
Definitely, painful thorns and very invasive.
It is very beautiful, but I wish it had never been planted in my garden.
What type of soil did you replant your asparagus plant with? Never knew there were so many types of soil until i went to lowes. lol.
Thanks for this effective information......
Ours is quite large, can you split them ?
Boa tarde essa planta demora muito pra crescer ?
Hello, I have blue or black seeds, I suppose they are seeds, they hung from the leaves ... I want to know if I can make a plant with these seeds.
How much perlite with the soil would you say?
1/3, 1/4, 1/5?
perhaps 1/3... they like the soil to stay moist... but the roots store water for the dry periods... if the soil gets too dry the plant will tell you by dropping lots of tiny leaves
Can you use perlite with regular garden soil?
How big do they grow
Always a pretty plant to have around. You did a good job, now that plant can breathe :)
***** And did it ever within the week it produced 2 new shoots... the photo in the thumb nail was taken today. the video was shot about a month and a half ago.
Thanks very much for this video. I really needed. It helped a lot ❤️
Does this plant need direct sunlight or it is better for the Plant to keep in shade?
shahinrezakhan it can tolerate full sun but it would prefer a lightly shaded spot during mid day... It's not a fern so it likes a good amount of sun
Thanks for sharing, always fun to see what your planting-up!!
Diane
Diane D :) there is always something different isn't there. My collection is all over the map..lol

Hi, thanks for the video.
I just dug some out with root from the bush. How much root does it need to survive? More tips please. Thanks.
Can you repot any time of year? It's autumn but mine seems to need it!
I do... I don't have time to repot everything in the spring. it's best to do it in the spring but I have not had any issues doing it off season.
How is it?
thanks
Are these plants safe around cats and dogs??
I love asparagus plumosus, how do I transplant my plumosus is growing from the ground to the pot or other location in my yard?
I think I just might get one of these their adorable.
Hi plantznthingz
I would love to know if you still have the Japanese ground orchid
Daniel Murillo Is that the ludisia Discolor?
PlantzNThings i mean the Bletilla striata
When u do the update on ur dragonfruit, u should make another video of u planting it in the ground for the summer please answer back thx.
Aaron Turtleboy i will do an update very soon... but i am not planting the dragon fruit in the ground... it is staying an indoor plant in a hanging pot
mine has about 2 sprigs that are still green, but hasn't produced anything new in over a year! What should I do next?
They are from tropical Asia
L F no,there from Africa

Thank you so much for the reply! It's in semi-shadow know, so I'll change its place and let you know how it does!
This is hard to find

can i grow this in an aquarium with co2 running?
it's not an aquatic plant unfortunately

They also like a bright indirect light. So it might be too much water and insufficient light?
the name is so tricky...you know the funny thing here in China is that we call it some kind of bamboo but clearly it does not belong to the bamboo family
That's Interesting... sort of like the Lucky bamboo... that is also not a bamboo. Must be the segmented growth structure.. Bamboo is so beautiful
PlantzNThings *Dracaena sanderiana*

Sure you can just cut away the pot if done it many times 😏
I have this in the ground in sandy soil. It's all in my hedges and trees. I like it in spite of its bad behavior.
Does anyone know where I can find these in Canada? I have been looking all over and they are hard to find!
+turbo1867 I live in Manitoba and I bought one at Home Depot.
All I can hear is Phil Dunphy-LOVE.
Hi. good. l from BRASIL.
Yay!
Lmao mine died 😭
But thx for the video 🙏 I'll learn from it
Poor dude :(
wow that fern needed a repotting , Ive never seen one so damn frilly lol

It may have gotten to much sun.

Good, but at the end show your face when you're talking to us, especially to invite us to the Fb page. Otherwise, VG! THANK YOU!

Plant abuse!!! lol you kill everything from neglect...
I seriously just wasted 10 minutes on what should have been covered in a 2 minute video. Please prepare and be concise, usually much better!
Can this plant species be propagated ?
Yes, from berries for sure. I heard they can be propagated from branch also, never tried.
If I cut the stem and have it replanted will it still grow?
if you cut off all of the top growth and replant the root ball? Yes, It will still shoot up new growth.
