I was stationed in Germany in the U.S. Army in 1979 in a very small village in Northern Germany that even Germans in larger cities didn't know about. This was a very big song in the local disco pubs. This reminds of those days before the internet and social media. The song has stuck in my head for all these years. It is still a favorite of mine.
I love usa (Trump)
I was in Baumholder in 83-85.
my Army Dad and our family was stationed at Carlisle Barracks, Hawaii in 1979 but i never heard this song until my first year of college in 1981. it was my fav song!
sorry i meant Schofield Barracks, Carlisle Barracks was where he was transferred in 1981.
I am from Germany... living in the U.S ...from Wiesbaden...35 years here....had good memories!
First hearing this in 1979 it was like a taste of what was to come, all the glorious fun that 80s music brought us.
My late husband used to come into the house and state "Talk about Pop Muzik!" over and over again! I have no idea where he originally heard the song, but he thought I should have known the song! He's been gone almost two years, and today was the first day I heard the song in its entirety!!
Well. Now you know you husband was a strange person with musical tendancies.
Great memory for you to have. 😊 I love this tune!
Gone too soon........and yet this song is so accessible
it was a huge hit in 79'. I remember calling into Sacramento Djs and requesting it as a child. i loved this song!! I heard that it was one song that inspired Lennon to start making music again in 1980. its among the all-time classics of its era
Lennon....jackass that murdered him recently came up for parole. I'd say let him rot in jail, but it wont bring back Lennon, and someone can use the forgiveness to heal.😪
Actually it was the B-52's "Rock Lobster" that motivated
him to comeback and record "Double Fantasy" in 1980.
❤️ this video & super great 🎵 song
This track introduced 80s...really ahead of its time...
It was of its time. The best music was in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Music today is shit.

I hear you.
Ditto, but hey, life goes on ... and great music helps.

Lol I know exactly what you mean this never gets old , brings me back to my army days and my youth,
Regardless of the haters and people that don't understand music this song kicked off the 80's.At the time this song was new, original and ahead of it's time.Today it's still popular.
Growing up in the 1970s. I couldn't wait for 1980. 1979 was a pivotal year in music for the 80s to rush in. The 1980s were awesome!
1979 WASA A HUGE YEAR FOR THE MUSIC INDUSTRY WHAT PLANET WERE YOU ON ????????????????????? THE 70s were AWESOME THE 80s were nothin but cocaine infested with AIDS REMEBR 80s when aids came into the world

My people. 70's was It. There was not only a dominant rhythm. The 70's was a experimental era, where all of the olds and news sounds reunited was great and fun.
I just feel weird admitting that I really dig this song. It was really different when it came out, ushering in synth pop, and various other genres.
It was the beginning of a new time. Happy memories
Don't feel weird. It's fine. 😁
😂 Don't Feel Silly...BE HAPPY!! 😁
Or, weird...sorry 😂😅
1979 I was nineteen years old when this song was. The airwaves where playing this song as well. Yes indeed great memories when disco was out and disco was leaving as well.

Absolutely love this song, haven't heard it for years then today they played it on the radio. I was at Auto Zone waiting on my grandson. Needless to say my big old Azz was breaking it down. Then we went to the Ball field for my other 2 grandsons. My 40 year old son and daughter in law never heard this song so I played it for them. Did another break down at the ballpark.
Its like Bangkok song................brill
This one takes me back. Lovin' the late '70s!
Old is certainly gold
This song has been going off in my head for several days. In pieces like a time bomb. I was singing "pop, pop, pop music" for a couple days, this morning I woke up to "boogie with a suitcase" It's the crazies thing. I haven't heard it in years. I miss the 80's.
This song was #1 on the charts for a long time when it came out. I had the 45 and played it over and over.

My friends and I danced to this song in our 5th grade dance festival. We had so much fun! This brings back happy, carefree memories.

This is SUCH an ear catchy song & I defy anybody to sit still throughout this song because it is SO impossible!
Whenever I hear this on BBC Radio 2 I just have to turn up the volume on the radio wherever I am & boogie away to it!
The power of a good bass line and groove beat, picked out well by the metre of the lyric. Always was a clever piece of pop music.

Bought the single as a teen in '79....such a welcome escape from the standard disco at the time.
This was considered disco at the time. They even played it on Dance Fever. And it was on all the disco stations. I suppose some might classify it as "New Wave" or something.
This is a hybrid of disco, Kraftwerk and Klaus Nomi.

Well, I can tell you it was number 1 early November 79. I recall well that in the college dorm it played all the time. Look at the top 10 that week to see the tremendous talent of the time: Eagles, Donna Summer, Herb Alpert, Commodores, Michael Jackson, Styx, Fleetwood Mac, Kenny Rogers and duet with Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer. 1979 in my opinion was the best and deepest year in music. It's a real tribute M got to number 1 during that year!

#1 on my 14th bday in 1979...all 5 years of my 8th grade through high school were the best days of my life but 1979 was THE best out of them.
Using the 40s style harmonics for the chicks doing the stacatto backup singing was a real stroke of genius. In the early 90s, Coil did something similar in their "The Snow" song, only with a more 20s or 30s kind of sound. I can't think of any other instances where pop songs mined a pop sound from that far back. Pretty soon it will be 100 years since the first decade of pop recordings began, and even now it's impossible to predict what what will come next.
I was into rock, but to this day there's something about this song. Its timeless
This song is a mainstain in my in my life I have traumatic brain injury this song connect me to memories of 1979 thank you for your originality
It is 70's. The 70's was the 70's a decade without a dominant sound but recognize as a Experimental decade, because ALL of the things has a begin and the Eletronic music, New Wave and Synthpop don't started magically in January,01 of 1980.
it's quite true. Also why so many 70s productions still sound so fresh and new if played today because they often have no extreme decade-typical cheese added to them. I mean listen to Brian Eno's Music for Airports or any 70s Album by "Cluster". And you wouldn't know it's from the 70s.
Actually it started in the summer of 81.
