BHL: Portraits -- In this episode, Black Hollywood Live hosts DJ Jesse Janedy and Courtney Stewart interview special guest Jenifer Lewis.
In 1987, Lewis was hired as the Pre-Show announcer on the Star Tours ride at Disneyland. In 1988, Lewis relocated to Los Angeles. In 1992, she was cast as one of the back-up singers to Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act. Goldberg sponsored several performances of The Diva Is Dismissed as a possible HBO series. In 1992 to 1993, she played Dean Davenport in the sixth and final season of A Different World. She also had a recurring role as Will Smith's Aunt Helen on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, as well as stints on a few episodes of In Living Color, reprising several of her characters from her nightclub act. Also in 1993, she played the mother of Tupac Shakur's character in Poetic Justice.
In 1993, she played the role of Tina Turner’s mother in the biopic What's Love Got to Do With It. In 1994, she followed with other supporting roles, including Mrs. Coleman the Unemployment Office lady in Renaissance Man and as Whoopi Goldberg's sister in Corrina, Corrina. In 1995, she was cast in maternal roles to Kadeem Hardison inPanther and to Larenz Tate in Dead Presidents before she accepted the role of a lesbian judge on the short-lived CBS series Courthouse. Lewis returned to the big screen as Theresa Randle's telephone sex line boss in Spike Lee's Girl 6. She then played Whitney Houston's character's mother in Penny Marshall's The Preacher's Wife.

This lady gives me life!!! She is truly fabulous and inspiring!
There are so many wise points Ms. Lewis touches on in this video. But the one thing that really jumped out at me, as someone who does a lot of soul searching myself, was telling yourself you love yourself in the mirror until you mean it.

I truely enjoy the message that came from this show. I love Mrs. Jennifer Lewis i so can relate to her situation etc. Life dosen't stop when u get knock down, you just get up and hopely in life my the to make the right choices and loving yourself can play a big part in your change.
At one time in my life i want to give up because molestation from my besitter grandaughter at the age of 8, from being rape by a relative when i turned 18. I was spiral with depression. I use to be happy in one minute and could be sad and acting crazy with in 30 seconds. Know one new how to really deal with me. Threw these situation i did have a talent which is singing. I almost die last year from Guillian Barre Syndrome which is not common. I was paralyzed from the neck down, a had a virus and on top of that my immune system was acting me as well. Most people recovery take 6 month to a year. But by the grace of god i was up and trying to walk in two weeks. I alway said to myself life is short why live it by miserable when you can be happy and have fun like its your last day on earth..when it could possibly be Your last. The only thing i am working on now is getting my throat back after having a tube down my throat so i can blessed people with love threw music. I sing from the heart everytime i do it. I hope i can do it again is my wish.
