You are telling my story. Got married into the Igbo society for 47years. Lost my husband to the cold hands of death 31years ago. They fight for me among the kindred for my rights as an Urhobo lady anytime anywhere telling others you have to protect her because she is not from here but now here. Even after our brother's death, she deserve to be pampered. Igbo community is the best i have seen even though there maybe some exceptions. Igbo kwu enu. Ya.

I am from the north and I live in the north. My boss is an igbo man whose business I manage in the north. I have not seen anyone as kind-hearted as him. He literally changed the way I see igbo people as opportunist, greedy and manipulators. I know there are few bad eggs. But igbos are generally good people.

You are already an Igbo man by naturalization. One of my best friends was an Urhobo boy. He came to my village in Anambra state as a conductor and stayed in my town for more than ten years. Married my niece and joined my village-age grade as an indigene of my village. This could only happen in Igbo land.

One Hausa guy that came to do a building work in my village from Kano stayed back after his work and married one of our sisters from a neigboring community. He still live in my community, he comes out whenever we are having community gathering. We prefer giving him job than our own people because of his sincerity. It's not even only him, i know many strangers from different states who live and married our girls in my local govt in Imo state. It always surprises me the way other tribes are saying all manner of things against my people because all are false. It will never be well with APC people who bring this tribalism among us. We travel around the world, so why would we treat others who came to live with us bad when others are protecting us? It's so unfair the way they treat my people and saying all manner of bad things to us.

    • @KalaJahal
      @KalaJahal 6 месяцев назад +1

My brother, I must tell you something. God use APC to tell we Igbos to be ready, because our freedom from Nigeria is not far from us. Before APC came to power, we Igbos relax so much. But God use them to tell you to be ready, because time is coming for him to give us freedom from Nigeria. He use APC as an instrument, to course so much hatred against the Igbos, so we Igbos will cry. And he has heard our cry, not I must tell you, our freedom from God forsaken country called Nigeria is not far from us. He separate Igbos with his mighty hand and will display his greatness among his people Igbos. And will separate them, and will set a table of pure gold before his people. Another mission which God has sent APC, is to destroyed the country, and bring a lot of suffering. Which God has succeeded doing that. The remaining one, he will soon carry out is to bring his last and great judgement, to be able to take Igbos out. So his plans will be accomplished, because his is a master planner.

You spoke undiluted truth. I grew up an Igbo in Imo state and there were three separate urhobo families with their children living on my street. I noticed that urhobo women respect their husbands a lot, and are very hardworking like Igbo women. In fact I didnt even know those my playmates were not Igbos until I finished secondary school because they all have Igbo names and urhobo names at the same time. I can attest to the veracity of your experience.

I am an Igbo man, I can confirm all what's been said by him is correct, especially the fact that Igbo people have intentional desire to protect strangers. I schooled in the East, and I could recall how a Yoruba man living in my deep hinterland village received so much attention and care from everyone, my grandmother inclusive. Idowu would always receive first consideration whenever it comes to favour and sharing, and many would always use the phrase ' give that to him, he is a stranger ' he was so loved and cared for. Congruent with this story, is how my late father, likewise, received so much love in Lagos from his Yoruba landlord. Alhaji so loved my father enough that most times he would recommend waving about three to four months of house rents. Alhaji so loved us and showed so much caring that in a few occasion he had sent money through my father to support our upkeep back in the university. I have mingled with different tribesmen, I have lived in the West, East and North of Nigeria, and have learnt that TRIBE is only an inconsequential characteristic of a people, and should not form any basis for discrimination, exclusion and hatred. One Nigeria, One Love. Thank you for your amazing story.

This man is 100% correct. I grew up in Igboland and they protect visitors. Two Yoruba boys in my secondary were never ever were called “Yoruba”. They spoke Igbo but have Yoruba names. No one ever harassed them. In fact they were treated better than Igbo boys. Because Igbos travel a lot they understand the vulnerabilities of a ‘stranger’ and hate to remind themselves that their brothers and sisters elsewhere might be maltreated. So they protect visitors in hope that one good turn breeds another.

Nice experience to share indeed. However, there are millions of other Nigerians who can tell similar stories from their days during the NYSC. I served in Okene (it was still in Kwara State at that time). My fellow Corpers and myself were loved and protected by the Igbirra people in whose land we lived while teaching at Federal College of Education, Okene. NIGERIANS do not have much problems with each other. Nigerian POLITICIANS are at the root of our problems.

Thank you doctor Apoki for saying it like it is , there are many good Nigerians in all tribes , but it is good to hear from you the experience you had in Igbo land , your voice. is a welcome voice in a sea of so many bad ones these days against the Igbo for no reason ,Igbos are good people , we bear no grudges against anyone , especially since we are everywhere, so it is really shocking to hear so many lies against the Igbo these days , yes the civil war happened a long time ago,but it is gradually being forgotten, except tribalist buhari brought it out in the open , he hated the Igbos that any agitation from Igbos about being marginalized was to buhari a continuation of the civil war , generally Igbos have married other tribes , but buhari made Igbo hating fashionable because of his own hatred of Igbo, sadly tinubu is doing the same thing buhari did , so your voice dr Apoki is a welcome voice , hopefully it will help in demystifying the negative image and lies about the Igbo, personally I think some people are just envious of Igbos because of their successes,Igbo is not your problem people. Igbos are good people

Thank You, Dr. for this insightful presentation.
Watching this brings me a mixed feeling of nostalgia and tears.
An Igbo man is NOT afraid of competition. In fact, they thrive better in competition, given a fair playing ground. The Igbo man is not afraid to go to any part of the world in search of prospects.
Guess what? They even identify hidden treasures in any place to the amazement of the hosts.
The people called Nigerians know this, deep down their spirit. But for the fear of been perceived as sellout, they connive with the political class whose interest are selfish to destroy this blessed country.
Until the average Nigerian begins to see the prospects and capabilities of the Igbo man to redeem this country from its economic woes, we will keep lying to our selves and wallowing in penury and financial darkness.

We don't even know if you are a stranger when you are in our midst.

You perfectly summed up that Igbo saying, that *_’nwanne di na mba.’_*
Which loosely translates to _‘you can find a brother in a foreign land’_ *or* _‘there’s a brother in a foreign land.’_
And may I say, you gave your children wonderful Igbo names 🫶🏾

Living in any part of Nigeria it a blessing. I lived my life as a Nigerian man born in shagamu (ogun state) to an Edo family all over Nigeria in the mid 60 to late 80.
I am privileged to live in western, eastern and southern part of Nigeria. I speak the 3 major languages in Nigeria including my native language (edo)
My experience in Nigeria cities like Kaduna, Kano, Abakaliki, Enugu, Akure, Lagos, Ibadan and Benin tell me that Nigerian are one.
It is these politicians that are dividing us in the media for their propaganda activities.
I am happily married to ijebu Family. If you ask me of my tribe, my answer is I am from WAZOBIA

Yes we are welcoming,my Dad told us,if we hv visitor and meat is not enough for the house. We should serve the visitor the meat. That its better he doesn't get than visitor not getting.Even the mother will rather not eat and give visitors food.So I do the same now.And I feel happy not eating and my visitors eat.At times I will drink garry nobody will know.

Everything you testified to here is the fact about the Igbo tribe where I was born and brought up. Igbos are very protective of strangers and will give their own blood to guarantee their safety. I see less of that in other tribes in Nigeria.
