Steve was one of a kind, in the best way. And that "was" California in the 60's and 70's. Hot Rods, dragstrips, dirt bikes, dune buggies, surfing, skateboards... Very lucky to have been there.
This is one of the coolest videos I’ve ever seen!! I always loved everything Steve McQueen did and I always loved watching the Ed Sullivan show!! Thanks so much for Sharing This!!!
According to writer Harlan Ellison, McQueen kept on reshooting his stunt on the motorcycle for hours on end until it was perfect. He then rode his dune buggy out alone to scout for shooting locations. Almost three hours later McQueen returned on foot. His buggy had broken down, forcing him to walk back "without shirt, without water" through "114 degrees of killing heat". Shooting continued on the buggy. Then reshoots. Lots of reshoots. Sullivan almost fainted, it was so hot. At the end of the day, someone asked the soundman if the noise of the camera rolling was audible. He said "Of course". They asked "What does he mean 'Of course?'" The soundman seemed at a loss. "The sound is loud through all the stuff we shot today...everything." The crew couldn't quite believe it. The entire day's shooting had been pointless. All the shoots, reshoots, the buggy breaking down, McQueen marching through the killing heat, Sullivan almost fainting. It had all been for nothing. McQueen's face changed. Nobody moved. Then McQueen took a deep breath and said: "We'll start over tomorrow."
Ellison was with McQueen in the dune buggy when it broke down. On the walk back Ellison collapsed from the heat. So, McQueen picked him up in a "fireman's carry" and packed him (Ellison) the rest of the way in. Ellison credits McQueen with saving his life that day.
Steve McQueen was the epitome of cool and in the early seventies I used to see him all the time at Indian Dunes in Valencia California, racing his various Husqvarna Motocross bikes on the International Course. He was an incredible rider and racer,. In Fact, I raced mini bikes at that time against his son Chad who tragically passed away today. 9/12/24
Great video 📸 two Superstar icons hanging out Love Steve's work on films he made . He did two improvisational Acts to get into the prestigious actor studio in New York City
This ones a 1st for me as i luv all Steve ever did. Yes he was saved the last few yrs of his life. His biggest regret in his life he said was not accepting Jesus way b4 when he did. All he wanted was to tell ppl about his love for Christ & Christ great forgiveness & of salvatiin
Bruce Lee nearly sh*t himself when he went with McQueen for a ride in his Porsche. But that wasn't on the sand dunes, but in LA and roads he frantically drove on were narrow, very bendy and steep cliffs on one side, Mulholland drive I think. James Coburn told this story and said Bruce found himself under the passenger seat, scared sh*tless and Steve had to look for him first and then be told by Bruce he was going to kill him - in no uncertain terms and without trying to be funny. Steve according to Coburn was a rallye racing type of driver. haha, that must have been so epic. :D

Guns, hot women and amazing cocaine
@@Vusseyv881 Thai stick too :) And cruising Whittier Blvd. So Cal was the best place in the world to live during that time.
McQueen was a genius in his own right, the Real Deal. My favorite actor in my most favorite movies. He reminds me of my Dad in some ways.
Dug a hole with the back tire for use of a kick stand. I love it! Talk about cool.
The perfect specimen of rugged masculinity and dynamic charisma, Mr. Edmund Percival Sullivan.
Check how he buried the back wheel to park it. He KNEW dirt bikes so well. Legendary guy
Forever the king of cool…no questions
A gorgeous 'Metisse desert racer' - a phenomenal bit of kit for that time. Timeless beauty never fades.
Steve McQueen interviews are so rare to come by, and this one was so cool to watch!
44 years ago today Steve McQueen passed away. RIP to him and Ed Sullivan
This is one of the coolest videos I’ve ever seen!! I always loved everything Steve McQueen did and I always loved watching the Ed Sullivan show!! Thanks so much for Sharing This!!!

I’ve never seen this. And Ed hanging with the King of Cool in an unbuttoned shirt showing his fab tan. Unbelievable
Love this Steve seems so nice in this video

Magnifique Steve McQueen,,👍
Lov Steve mcqueen
Ed Sullivan baring his chest!
I love his Triumph Rickman Metisse.
Two cool old school guys.
So rad.
So freekin cool
im a steve mcqueen fan of course- but a tanned showmaster in an half opened shirt hell yeah 🤩
A real man.
Highly edited and sanitized for American viewers.
Still king of cool
He rode Husqvarnas a lot faster than he rode that Greeves
That was a Metisse Triumph, not a Greeves. Greeves was a two stroke w/leading link fork. I don't doubt he rode one at one point.
seat belts are missing and Greata is missing too ... the good old days
1:52 no seat belts...old school
The only other man better with a motorcycle than Steve McQueen was was Evel Knievel
Debatable. I guess that depends on your definition of 'better with a motorcycle'.

Most handsome back in the day,"
A Guy's Guy. May He R.I.P.
This is great. Race a Rickman.👍🏁🇦🇺
Outside of Palm Springs
👍😊
Wow, l always thought Ed was a bit of a stiff , l take it back, that was very cool, so was he.
Steve .....ln heaven with his Lord, and Savior, my Lord and Saviour ...Christ Jesus! The king of kool, is with The KING of kings! :D
What made this guy the ‘king of cool’?

I'd say that dune buggy left some skid marks on ed that is
Whats this motorcycle been on the desert? think Eds had a few sherbets
Must have been to promote Bullitt
This guy looks like a white version of Burt kwark
Did not see any sand on Ed's shirt wonder why
Por qué no ponen en CASTELLANO ?? COmo murió??
Scrambling
A really big "shoe". If Steve was around today I doubt he'd be driving an EV or even a hybrid. Just can't picture it.
Back when actors were real tough guys not the lame crybaby whiners of today .
Stiff interview not natural
For Ed Sullivan, that was very loose. He made Nixon look like Hugh Hefner. From Jimi Hendrix to Dinah Shore, his show had something for everybody.
No don't get in.
